winxp roaming profiles and samba group access rights
Howdy People,
I have a problem with roaming profiles in samba 3.0.5 on redhat9 (
installed from the rpm with rpm -Uv samba.3.0.5.rpm
I am not using LDAP ( dont know how and as I am a Netware person on a very
steep learning curve with Samba, didn't want to complicate the
installation after seeing every second posting on this list as a ldap
problem).
The smb.conf file is listed below.

Able to Mount home, but getting failure errors in logs
Hi,
I have a few users that are creating errors like below. These users have mapped
a directory via Samba and also have it connected. They can access their home
directory or other directory via Samba fine, but it is strange that every hour
on the hour there is a failure put into the log (even though they are working).
My server is joined to the Domain and it is using

Remote printer access
We are trying to add remote PC access to a printer using Samba and the Network
Neighborhood. We are running Solaris 2.5.1 on our server and our PCs are running
Win95. We have installed Samba 1.9.16p2. I'm fairly new at administering Samba.
The printer is a high-quality color Tektronics Phasor 450 PostScript printer
named hq_color_fl2. Access to our other printers has been set up previously

samba & unix group permissions problems
Hi,
I'm having permissions problems connecting to a share when the gid of
the directory shared is not the primary group of the user connecting to it.
Maybe I faced it the wrong way, but I did read (and at least thought I
understood) the 'File, directory and share access controls' section of
the howto [0].
My users have either one or another 'primary group' (the one set in

profiles and home directories
Howdy All,
I have read with interest the problems that some people have with profiles
and XP ( service pack 2 included ) in getting them to work.
I, however, have not had any such trauma's ( thank goodness) and the
smb.conf file listed below works a treat.
The problem I have is people using profiles over several vpn connections (
just to slow ).
So now I am in the situation of wanting to turn

Samba ADS member: using local groups
Hi.
I have problems using local groups on a SAMBA ADS member. I encountered
the problem when I switched from Fedora Core 4 to Fedora Core 5.
I'm using the FC5 samba-3.0.22-1.fc5 package.
The SELinux is set to permissive mode (SELINUX=permissive), so this should
not cause problems.
I'm using same scripts for generating group mapping and add users to
groups, as I used on FC4.

Understanding NT Groups and UNIX Permissions with Samba Shares
Hello, I am having some problems understanding a few concepts in Samba while
trying to use samba-common-3.0.0-14.3E, samba-client-3.0.0-14.3E and
samba-3.0.0-14.3E on RHE 3.0.
Basically, I have security = domain. My system is running winbind, I've
added the winbind calls to nsswitch.conf. I can get my wbinfo -u and wbinfo
-g commands to show me what I want. That all seems happy.

smbd/service.c:set_current_service(56) chdir (/var/ghost) failed
Hey Gang,
I have a suse 8.1 server that I have compiled samba 3.0.2 from source on.
I have it configured to authenticate against our AD. That seems to be
working fine.
getent passwd produces the results from both passwd and AD. getent group
gives me the groups + the AD groups. I was able to assign the permissions
to the folder without problems. It picked up the group from AD and
assigned it

I'm getting this frequently in our logs but I cannot replicate the

chdir (/var/lib/samba/profiles) failed
L.S.
I've some problems on a couple of my samba servers.
The servers running CentOS release 5 with samba-3.0.25b-1.el5_1.4
The config is pretty standard, not much special in it.
But the log files are filling up with error messages like this one:
