danger in using pdbedit
I would like to be able to change between backends but I'm worried that my users will encounter trouble loggin in. So I'm looking for reassurance that my command is ok. My current configuration is: passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://10.10.10.10 smbpasswd guest I would like to change from ldap to tdbsam. Is this the command to use: # pdbedit -i ldapsam:ldap://10.10.10.10 -e tdbsam I

requesting assistance in samba-samba migration
I have inherited a Samba server and would like to migrate the installation to a new machine. We are using Samba as a PDC and my currrent worry is what users will see on their desktop (as well as other changes?) once they log on to the new server. As a test I have logged on with my laptop (running WinXP virtually) and I get a completely blank desktop (with the exception of the trash can). Will

Why tzdata-2007h [RHEA-2007:0928-05] only for CentOS 2?
I might be stupid and ask an idiot or offensive question, but here it is: "Why was tzdata-2007h [RHEA-2007:0928-05] only released for CentOS 2, when upstream has released it for all the versions?" The guys from X/OS have released it for 5.0 along with the other updates (on Oct. 9). Are the "enhancements"... "not important" as long as they're not "security

winbind nss info : how does it handle multiple values?
It looks to me like the 'winbind nss info' parameter is designed to be a space-separated list of values. I say this because: 1) i gave it two values, separated by spaces, and testparm(1) did not complain; 2) the man page ( http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man5/smb.conf.5.html ) gives an example of two values. Assuming that's true, how do the multiple values work together? Is order

Samba 3.0.23 - smbd + custom passdb panics when there is no root user
Hi, I am in the process of upgrading from v3.0.20a to v3.0.23 with our local passdb plugin. The plugin complies without any issues. Our User DataBase contains all our users accounts but not system accounts. With Samba v3.0.20a this wasn't a problem. Why th change between v3.0.20a and v3.0.23 ? Do you see any issues if I return a fake root account? Returning a fake root account s a hack I

AD auto-mounting (why does this work?)
I have Samba and Active Directory (Win 2003) integrated whereby I can login to my Ubuntu station using the credentials of an AD user. I also have a share automatically mounted based on this username (i.e. share blah is mounted when user blah logs in). I am wondering how this can work if I do not have any Kerberos tickets issued? When I log in I use the 'klist' command and it shows that

Timeout, server not responding
I have several WinXP laptops which have been backing up to a FreeBSD 6.0 server via rsync for a good while now. Now one laptop is giving me grief. I am running cwRsync and invoking a remote rsync daemon via a shell command: cmd /K "rsync.exe -avr --rsh=ssh --progress --stats --delete /cygdrive/d/"My Documents" user@server::user_data" I get this error locally: Quote:

thousand separator (was RE: weight)
Thank-you Andy!!!!!! That works great now Nat __________________ I've run into this occasionally. My current solution is simply to read it into Excel, re-format the offending column(s) by unchecking the "thousand separator" box, and write it back out. Not exactly ideal to say the least. If anyone can provide a better solution in R, I'm all ears... Andy From: Natalie

Changing CPU cache size of guest
Hi everybody, Using libvirt 1.0.0 how does one change the L2 cache size of the virtual CPU? I can change the CPU model but the cache size never changes: <cpu mode='host-passthrough'/> <model>Nehalem</model> OR <cpu match='exact' mode='custom'/> <model>Nehalem</model> Is there a qemu requirement? -- peter matulis

mounting an AD share upon login
Hi everyone, I am having trouble mounting a share on my AD server upon login. I am using pam_mount. Here is log activity when user 'peter' logs in (with Ubuntu client) and is authenticated by AD server. There is a share called 'peter' on the server (netbios name WIN2003) and the mount point is /home/PRIVATE/peter (see later for pam_mount.conf file): ===================== Jul

udev - by-id
Hi, I am trying to set up a CentOS 4 machine with various iSCSI mounts for Oracle, but devices keep on moving around, causing the mounts to fail while called by the sd[a-f] names. We thought about using labels, but, as some of the partitions do not use EXT3, that was discarded, so we thought about using udev and by-id. The problem is that udev does not seem to create the by-id folder or any

OT - IP Tables - forwarding to localhost
Hi, I am trying to set up a firewall rule so calls to old_mailserver:25 get redirected to localhost:25. I have seen quite a few rules and none seem to work. I have tried with the firewall enabled (configured to allow smtp) and disabled, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. One of the commands I have been using is: /sbin/iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -p tcp -d old_mailserver_ip/32
