add machine script almost succeeds
All - I am in the process of writing my own "add machine script" to use with Samba 3.0.20a and our OpenLDAP setup. For the most part it seems to work fine. If I run the script from the command line, I can see that the entry has been added to LDAP. If I then go to the Windows machine and tell it to join the domain, after giving it the Admin login and password it connects up with no

Apple fixes DTrace
I''m pleased to pass along news that the Mac OS X DTrace port has been updated in 10.5.3 to fix the issue that caused timer based probes not to fire in the presence of certain untraceable applications. http://blogs.sun.com/ahl/entry/apple_updates_dtrace A big thank you to the folks at Apple for addressing the problem. Should it be: passwd program = /usr/bin/smbpasswd -r <PDC address> %u I'm having a problem with passwords not staying in sync between the PDC and BDC with pass backend ldap. The systems are all Fedora Core 4, Samba 3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.23 Kent N

add machine script problem with Fedora core 5
I am having some trouble with Samba 3.0.21b-2 as a PDC running on Fedora core 5. In particular, on-the-fly creation of machine accounts using the "add machine script" parameter does not seem to work. In smb.conf, I have the following line: add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u When I try to join a new WinXP machine to the domain, it fails to

Simple question - Machine / User relationsip
Can someone explain to me the mechanizm that Samba uses to relate Machines to Users? I am trying to set up a Samba-LDAP PDC and it seems to work OK but I get "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done." This would seem to be a simple user/group ownership/permissions thing. Now I have the following potentially pertinent ou's: People Computers Groups One

use PT_DENY_ATTACH on Mac OS X
Hi. Mac OS X has a PT_DENY_ATTACH argument to ptrace(2) which does what it says on the tin: PT_DENY_ATTACH This request is the other operation used by the traced process; it allows a process that is not currently being traced to deny future traces by its parent. All other arguments are ignored. If the process is currently being traced, it

Trusted NT domains won't connect
Hi all, I've been struggling with this problem for quite some time, and I'm hoping someone will have an answer for me. I'm trying to use Samba to authenticate against a campus-wide NT domain setup. As such, I can't change any of the details of the NT domain. The NT domains are set up as follows: +-----> USER1 | MACHINES <-+----->

Trust, users, groups, scripts, etc. questions.
I have some things I'd like someone brighter than me to explain. #1. Add xxxx scripts. Everyone seems to put these scripts in their smb.conf. The add user and add machine make sense, and they work, but explain to me how the other scripts, such as add user to group, are supposed to work? When do they get called, etc.? I guess most of these involve the smbldap tools. #2. Here's my

ANOVA/statistics question
(Have searched for this already) Hi, How do you find the strength of correlation between two variables using an ANOVA table? "Pr(>F)" gives the statistical significance of the association, but not the strength of the correlation. See data (from R) below Readable: "Df" "Sum Sq" "Mean Sq" "F value"

add machine script problem
Hello I set up a Samba 3 PDC with ldap backend. I created an script that adds machine accounts. First it adds the machine account to /etc/passwd and then it creates the user in ldap with smbpasswd -a -m machine. If I run the script by hand, it works and the account has been added. After that I can join the domain without any problems. Now I want to make this machine account creation on the

WINXP Profiles
I have a problem with samba 2.2.7a which is configured as a PDC for two Windows XP Profesional workstations. I'am working with roaming profiles for the winxp machines. My problem is, when I reboot a winxp machine my roaming profile becomes a local profile. When I don't reboot the winxp machine roaming stays roaming. This is my smb.conf configuration. Very strange truncation error
Fellow Samba-lovers: I'm encountering a very peculiar error. I first encountered it when doing an upgrade to Samba 2.2.8a (from a fairly recent version---I don't recally exactly which, but it couldn't have been older than 2.2.7) on FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE. The error I'm encountering is twofold. In the first example, I try to connect to the "shared" service, which results

Hi there ... I have a problem with my tdb-database after I've migrated from Debian-Samba-3.2.5-4lenny6 to Samba-3.2.5-4lenny7.
