Windows Vista keeps on deleting cached roaming profile
I have a couple of Windows Vista Computers that i freshly (re)installed,
updated to SP2 + all updates, and joined to my domain...
i also got an empty profile on the server (the storage folder is there, but
there are no files inside)
When i log into the domain Windows creates all files and folders just fine

win xp sp2. It just disappears from network neighborehood in about 15-20 minutes

solves problem for next 15-20 mins. %) What can be done about it?
Is there any sence to upgrade samba to

Breaking Windows XP user password?
Granted this is not a UNIX system, but in case there is a UNIX tool to
accomplish the goal...
I am looking for a bootable CD/DVD (or application to be placed on a CD/DVD to
be made bootable) that can let me mount a Windows XP drive/partition (SP1 or
SP2), and force-crack the admin password (even if admin account name has been
changed, but I know what it has been changed to). The application

high network traffic
hello
I'm experiencing problems with samba (2.2.7a on linux & 3.0.15 on hp-ux)
with windows xp (sp2) clients
to make it short, an application reads and writes files on a share
when the share is on a windows (2003) server, the network traffic is "normal"
when the share is on a samba server, the network traffic is very high and
the application response time increases very badly

Centos 5.6 Kernel Panics
Hello,
Recently our dell sc1425 server has been locking up with kernel freezes
and required a hard reboot on each occasion. I've looked on the centos
forums with limited success - each problem seems slightly different
(some failure on high load, some not). Our kernel is 2.6.18-274.17.1.el5
and /var/log/messages show the following errors:

BSOD when writing from W2003 clients after SP2 has been installed
Hi,
We are running a RHEL4 x86_64 server, samba-3.0.25b-1.el4_6.4. The server is
running with essentially the same configuration since a year without
problems. Due to a hardware failure on the back-end SAN the samba-server was
moved to a different machine (same OS, same samba version, same config). At
about the same time we deployed SP2 on various W2300 machines (there are in
total about 50 W2003

"failed access check on" on gpo
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hallo,
when I do an "samba-tool gpo list username" I get an "faild access
check on OU=name,......". But not if I do a "samba-tool gpo listall"
then everything is ok. Is this normal? If I take "administrator" as
username I didn't get this message.

Samba as PDC with XP Client - Logon requires reboot - Help Please
Hi, I'm running the latest version of Samba with a tdbsam backend,
configured not to use roaming profiles. Two different XP clients (SP2)
are joined to the domain ok but users can only logon by rebooting before
entering their logon details. When users logoff and try to logon again
(or logon as a different user on the same machine) they get the standard

XP SP2 client doesn't find netbios alias servers
After upgrading XP to SP2, I can no longer connect to server aliases.
The client reports an error 53, "The network path was not found", when
doing "net use * \\prof\profile.
Mapping to a share on the real netbios name works fine.
Anyone else seen this?
Setup:
samba-3.0.6.rc2

Accessing multiple shares from one single client
I am facing the current problem:
I have one WinXP SP2 Clients trying to access multiple shares on the same
smb server. When booting up Windows I can login to one share, but not to the
other ones. Whichever of them I take first is working just fine. My username
or password (which is correct!) is being rejected. Is this a Windows issue
or do I need to adjust a parameter in smb.conf?

Can't manipulate files on Samba server after installing W2K SP3
We have a Redhat 7.2 server running(we think) samba 2.2. We updated 3 Win2K
machines from SP2 to SP3 and now we have some problems. While they all can
browse, read and write to samba shared directories, they cannot manipulate
any open files in them. We do have one other Win2K machine that works with
no problems but I cannot find any differences in its setup and the other
three.

Why does the server want to connect to a client
Hi,
I have 5 of 140 Windows XP SP2/SP3 machines that make problems when printing.
The client open the printer dialog and it takes a long time (up to 1 minute)
before it appears. Printing is slow, too. Meanwhile I see the following
messages (repeating several times) in the client log:

CPU-load, memory-load, oplocks, smbd-core-dumps
Hi all,
I use samba 2.2.2 on AIX 4.3.2 (1500 NT4 sp6a / w2k sp2 workstation). since
i had updated from 2.0.7 to 2.2.2 the CPU load will very fast go to 100% an
d teh memory use of a smbd process will grow up to 100 MB. In teh log-files
are many errors like that:
PANIC: open_mode_check: Existant process 22700 left active oplock

XP Pro and offline files
All:
Not sure if this is an XP Pro issue or a samba issue.
I am running v3.0.3 of the samba server acting as a Domain
controller and file server. The problem that I run into is that every once
in a while, while connected to the network the network shares go offline.
I am running XP Pro SP2 and I am not really sure where to start to
troubleshoot this.
TIA

roaming profiles, not roaming
using samba v3 windows xp sp2 clients.
i have profiles working to some extent, that is when i create a new user
on the server, when that user logs in, the profile gets downloaded from
the server from the /etc/netlogon/default user directory.
any customizations that the user makes work just fine and get saved to the
profiles share under profiles/username
when the user tries to go to a different
