Can't login samba domain from xp/2k
Hello everybody.
I am having troubles to log on a samba domain from winxp and win
2000 workstations.
I patched the registry with the requiresignorseal=0, changed the local
and group policies (following various comments found on the web), and
added the machine account for samba (obviously, /etc/passwd too). I
tried with samba 3.0.7, 3.0.10 and 3.0.13, Winxp with and without sp2,
and win200

Does Samba 4 actually respect Unix file acls?
Hello,
After researching the subject on the internet I concluded that Samba should take into account Unix file acls. During my tests I found the opposite. Only Unix file mode bits are respected, and file acls are ignored. If my initial assumption is correct and Samba do respect Unix file acls, then I am doing something wrong. Please see the setup below and point to what I am doing wrong.

NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
I am trying to run Samba 3.0.24-11.fc6 on Fedora Core 6. I've run across
two problems that are keeping me from being successful.
1. IPTables. Even when I configure it through Webmin to not run at
startup, it does anyway. I consider this a minor problem, at least for now,
although I wouldn't mind some input on how to configure it to allow Samba.
2. Access to shares. We are running

Access control question.
Hello,
I have a general administrative question concerning Samba shares.
I have a large amount of data that about 25 users have limited access to. I
only want these users to have access to a sub-set of this data, but I also
only want the users to see that which they have access to.
So, for example, suppose that the share looks like thus:
/smbshare
/smbshare/dir1
/smbshare/dir2

Samba 3.0.24 - group permissions
Hello - I upgraded from FC4 to FC6. My samba configuration (samba
3.0.1x) was working just fine until I upgraded to FC6 and Samba 3.0.24.
I had shares who where protected and only some users and groups can
access them. I used valid users = @wireless, where the group wireless
had 10 users. Before the upgrade this was working just fine. Now
nobody from @wireless group members can access the

Can't access shares
Running FC6 and Samba 3.0.24-11.fc6.
Workstation is XP Pro
Initially, after disabling SELinux and turning off Iptables, I could access
the shares that were set up. Came in this morning ready to start copying
files and can't get in. Prompts me for a username and password which is
rejected. I know it's not my workstation because I have another FC6/Samba
server running and have no problem

Samba idmap against ad
Hello,
I have a samba server (old - running FC6, samba 3.0.24-11.fc6) that
authenticates against AD. This is all configured and has been working fine
until this week.
A new user has been added to AD, but cannot access the samba drives. All other
users can still access samba as normal.
net ads testjoin reports OK.
wbinfo -a newuser%pass and wbinfo -K newuser%pass both succeed. wbinfo -r

Cannot change case of existing file names
Server OS: Linux / Fedora Core 6
Samba version: 3.0.24, 3.0.23 (binary packages for FC6)
Samba configuration: All defaults
Client OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP4
In recent versions of Samba (including 3.0.24), attempting to rename a
file to a new name that differs only in case appears to have no effect:
X:\tmp>echo . > FILE.txt

NAS and 2 active Samba servers / locking not working
Hi,
I have one NAS which I can access via NFS or Samba.
This storage is accessed by 2 linux servers with Samba where I re-export the NAS share. This is sort of an active/active loadbalancing cluster.
The only thing not working is locking... If a client opens a Word-File via server1 and another opens the same via server2 it won't inform the user that he can only open the file readonly.

64 Bit XP client unable to add ACE on 3.0.24 Samba Domain member server
Hi all-
I searched quite a bit and couldn't really come up with anything, so I'm
posting to the list to hopefully find out if I have any options.
I've got a production FC6 box running 3.0.24-7.fc6 build of samba server
that's very stable for us. It's a member of an ADS domain w/ server 2003
domain controllers.
Recent 64 bit windows XP pro boxes are having the exact problem

Trying to share HP Officejet 5610 Multi-function
I'm trying to share my HP 5610 on my Samba (3.0.24-1 fc6 x86_64) machine and
am running into a typical HP related SANFU. The XP drivers supplied only
install through the installation program. (ie. I can't use device manager
to point XP to the driver and install it) So I installed the printer on my
XP machine, used the installation program to install the drivers and then

cannot write to share
I have a server 192.168.0.14 and the directory I wish to share is /home/photo
I can mount from 192.168.0.1 with
mount -t smbfs -o "username=photo" //192.168.0.14/photo /mnt/smbshare
it prompts me for a password and I can see the contents of the share
but I cannot write to it.
Any pointers gladly recieved
kind regards

samba-3.0.0 & FreeBSD 5.1 not cooperating
Greetings,
I think I may be having a slight configuration problem with Samba and
FreeBSD-5.1. I'm trying to use FreeBSD's mount_smbfs(8) to mount a
remote Samba share onto my local FreeBSD filesystem. With the
configuration below, I can read all (almost; explained below) files and
directories just fine. All permissions are correct. But whenever I try
to write to the share, the write fails

rsync and Perl programming
Hi everybody -
I'm trying to write a Perl wrapper for some rsync tasks that need doing.
Problem is, there's some sort of odd interaction going on between Perl
and the daemon mode communication for the rsync client, and I'm at my
wit's end in trying to figure it out.
Here's the Perl script:

Hi list,
I''m totally new at xen and apologize for my ignorance. What I''m trying

Problem with menu.c32
I'm trying to use menu.c32 to boot different kickstart files.
The problem I have is regardless of what menu item I select, it always uses
the client.cfg (default entry) even if I select one of the others.
Any ideas.
Thanke,

folder permissions with Windows client, Samba server
Hi list -
I've been using Samba since 2.x in the early 2000's, and a papercut I
had eight years ago still plagues me today - when anyone on a Windows
client right-clicks a folder on a Samba share and tries to view or
change its permissions, it doesn't work right. The folder appears to
have no permissions enabled for owner, group, or world (regardless of
what the permissions
