printing problem
I'm testing a printserver with Samab/ Cups.
Every time I want to upload the driver to samba for printing I get the following error:
"Printer settings could not be saves. Access denied"
I chmod 777 the driver directory and spool directory.
I gave specified the user as printer admin in the share.
My firewall is disabled.
Why is it still giving me the access denied error?

access to data denied
I have a standalone samba server for mailbackup purpose from Lotes Notes in a AD 2003 domain.
I've created one share which holds the mailbackup-folders of my users.
I've set the permissions on each folder so, that only users have access to their own mailbackup
folder.
drwxrwx- - - user1.root usersmailbackupfolder.
I can write a backup.nsf to the usersmailbackuop folder.

Weird 'net getlocalsid' problem (Samba + LDAP)
I'm setting up a PDC with LDAP (Posix and Samba accounts) backend.
Samba version is 3.0.10 (FC3 x86_64 version). I'm following the
instructions on the IDEALX site. I've done this before with older
versions. It appears some things have changed in LDAP, Samba, and the
smbldap-tools, but for the most part the procedure is the same.
The problem I'm getting is with the 'net

net getlocalsid returns hostname as domain && net rpc vampire fails
OS : Suse 9.2 up to date with Samba 3 and openldap
Goal :I want to migrate from Windows NT to samba 3.
WINPDC : name of the Windows NT PDC
LINBDC : name of the Linux BDC
WINNTDOMAIN : name of the domain on WINPDC
I set up smb.conf to act as a BDC, openldap is running well with a
structure ready (I used smbldap-populate from smbldaptools)
I used "net setlocalsid" to set my LINBDC SID

a little problem with net getlocalsid
My samba PDC is working very well. I only have an 'theoretical' question
(I think). When I run 'net getlocalsid my-pdc', it fails (see below). I
think this is because someday the name of my pdc was other! In fact 'net
getlocalsid my-old-pdc-name' works! and that output is the same output
obtained from running 'net getlocalsid my-domain' (as written on the

net getlocalsid: some questions
Hello,
Is it possible to get the SID of a domain different than the one your
server is in?
e.g.: net getlocalsid ==> gives you the sid of the domain your server is in.
but suppose you would like to know the SID of another domain.
net getlocalsid DOMAIN2 ==> samba3 does not give the SID
[root@server root]# net getlocalsid DOMAIN2

net getlocalsid and net getlocalsid <domain>
Hi,
does the output of the two commands really mean that the server FILESERVER
is not in the domain?:
# net getlocalsid
SID for domain FILESERVER is: S-1-5-21-4161338278-3756552359-245403906
# net getlocalsid <domainname>
SID for domain <domainname> is: S-1-5-21-2018781741-1218349122-1862352094
Is there another method to check if a server is in a domain?
Can I use 'net rpc

net getlocalsid problem ???
Hi List,
I'm currently migrating from win2000 to linux ( samba 3.0.10-1.4E ).
Domain = TESTDOMAIN
Windows Box Name = TESTPDC
Linux Box = LINUXPDC
I have joined the windows pdc from the linux box. Next I use: net getsid
-S TESTPDC -W TESTDOMAIN which puts my SID in secrets.tdb. All is fine
here. Next I use net getlocalsid which gives me an error so I use net
getlocalsid TESTDOMAIN

Samba 3.0 + LDAP
Hi All
I've compiled Samba 3.0 alpha 17 using --with-ldapsam. In smb.conf I've
got:
passdb backend = ldapsam
ldap admin dn = "cn=Manager,o=Sambatest,c=AU"
ldap suffix = c=AU
ldap ssl = off
... and the admin dn password is in the secrets.tdb file.
Whenever I try to connect to samba, I get the following error message:

net getlocalsid: is this a bug?
I noticed the following:
Suppose that we have a server called "SMALLSERVER" working as a PDC for
"SMALLDOMAIN**".
When I enter "net getlocalsid" I get the following output:
SID for domain SMALLSERVER is: S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx
But when I enter "net getdomainsid" I get:

BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi,
After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except
for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but
plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary:
system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master,
wins server, domain master browser, no iptables;
system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0,

Yes, you are right. But it is really only a piece of the problem. You
are comming from the 3.5 version of samba. Early in 3.6 some things have
changed.

No local SID -- net getlocalsid fails
Hi,
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.2a running on a redhat 9 system.
No matter how long I leave samba running it fails to generate
a local SID for my network and I'm stumpped.
The following is a dump of my smb.conf
