Quota Question
Hi, I have several Samba servers running on Linux (Debian Etch) machines using 2.6.18 kernel. The Samba shares are all on an XFS filesystem, with user and group quota support. I have three problems/questions: 1. When a user hits their quota limit, they get a "disk full" error. 2. When a user checks the free space of the share, they see the space on the entire share, rather than the

Strange smbclient -L behaviour across WAN link
Hello folks, I hope somebody here can help shed light on this peculiar behaviour of smbclient. When we execute: smbclient -L <host> and the host is across a VPN link traversing a WAN (DSL) link we get the following: 1. <host> is Windows 98SE: OK, smbclient completes 2. <host> is Windows XP or Samba 3.x: smbclient is able to retrieve the share list but hangs trying to get

Samba across WAN link
Hello All, We have 2 Samba servers in our domain at our site. Server A) is a Primary Domain Controller that everyone logs into and Server B) just has drives shared on it. We have another site with a Server C) running MARS NWE we are connected to via a 256k WAN link. If we were to run Samba on this Server C) and set it up like Server B) i.e. Have all 3 servers in the same domain all with one

Incoming Traffic Control across WAN
Hi All Is it possible to control incoming traffic from the Internet across the WAN on the company premises side not at the ISP. i.e. If I have a 128Kbps WAN and some one is trying to send me a 5MB email is possible to throttle him back to 64Kbps. Or do u have to have a box @ the ISP which limits traffic down my WAN. Thanks in Advance Steven

how is Samba 3.x advertising itself to Windows clients across LAN, WAN ?
We recently installed Samba 3.x server on Linux system (RHEL 3.0, using stock RH samba packages). We are observing following messages in logs: lib/access.c:check_access(328) and access is denied. I know why we get access denied: we have restricted "hosts allow =" setting. My question is: why are we getting connection requests in first place? I think something is advertising this

(Newbie) Trying to get name resolution functional across the WAN
Hello all, Sorry if this is not new for you, certainly it is for me. I've setup Samba 2.2.3a on Redhat 7.3, right off the distribution's RPMs. Somehow I managed to get it working, as seen from the local LAN where the server sits, at building A. Problem is, all of my users are in building B, 10 miles across the city from the server room. This is a corporate environment, mainly Windows and

PDC BDC logon server
If I have a PDC and 3 BDCs on separate networks, with no clients on either of these networks, should the BDCs still be the preferred logon servers or do the have to be on the same network segment? Does where the wins server is (on the PDC) make a difference to which responds first? I've got 95% of my clients using the PDC and would like to spread the load a little. Samba 3.0.21c on Solaris

PDC/BDC && "domain logons = yes"
Hello, I ran into a problem the other day where our NT PDC and BDCs starting flaking out. They all thought that there was another PDC on the network and so would not promote. After several hours of fighting with the NT servers, we checked a change that had been made to our smb.conf on our fileserver. Namely, the addition of "domain logons = yes". My understanding was that this

Asterisk with Internet connectivity
Hi! I have a setup with Asterisk in front of a PBX connected with ISDN to the PSTN and to the PBX. This Asterisk (a old 1.2 instance) is doing ENUM for outgoing calls and allows incoming calls per SIP. Recently the IP connectivity for this location was down the whole telephony was down too - not even incoming calls did work. This is really strange as incoming calls from PSTN are routed

winbind + trust relationship on wan
Hi All, I?m trying to make stable a bidirectional trust relationship on the wan. I tried many things and before I change the branch samba to a BDC of main office PDC I guess anything else can help me. Does winbind can help to keep the trust relationship stable over a wan connection? Or the better way to use it is with a single domain and lots of BDCs? Thank?s everybody, Gustavo

StorageTek 2540 performance radically changed
Today I updated the firmware on my StorageTek 2540 to the latest recommended version and am seeing radically difference performance when testing with iozone than I did in February of 2008. I am using Solaris 10 U5 with all the latest patches. This is the performance achieved (on a 32GB file) in February last year: KB reclen write rewrite read reread 33554432

NT4 machine trust breaks on a Samba-BDC
Hello all, We have Samba (2.2.5) running on three servers, each in a different subnet. One of them is a PDC (domain master = yes). The Samba PDC is also the NIS master. The smbpasswd is replicated using rsync to the other machines that act as Samba BDCs (domain master = no). They are also NIS slave servers. The smbpasswd synchronization takes place automatically every time smbpasswd is updated,

Idmap + LDAP + winbind: our first BDC - doubts about idmap ranges and winbbindd + Idmap dn
Hi, My doubt is about Idmap + LDAP + winbind, related do BDC + PDC. We are using Samba 3.0.33 (Slackware 12.0.0). Our layout is almost like this one http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/images/chap6-net.png, but we have more BLDGn than this example. Actually, we are taking ideas from http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html and from

PDC and BDC load-balancing
Hi there, I would like to know how Samba / Windows determines which domain controller should handle a logon request, and whether there is a way I can affect the process. Here's the situation: I have a school installation running a Samba domain, with a PDC (1.1GHz Celeron, 256 MB RAM) and one BDC (much smaller, 366 with 64 MB RAM), both with RedHat 7.1 and Samba 2.2.5. There are about 80

PostgreSQL problems
Folks, I know this must be a configuration problem. Just changed servers last nite -- an interim server running 1.6.1.6. Copied all of /etc/asterisk to the new server and fired it up. Now I'm getting: [Oct 14 12:28:10] ERROR[8471]: cdr_pgsql.c:309 pgsql_log: Failed to insert call detail record into database! <VM LIVE Migration> <Sync conntrack entries>
Hi Team, I am using QEMU/KVM for launching VMs and libvirt to govern those VMs. I would like to synchronise the connection tracking entries specific to the VM during the VM LIVE migrations. It is required when the firewall is implemented at the host level like libvirt's "network filters". If stateful firewall is enabled, then unless these connection tracking entries are

RedHat 7.3 smbmount
Hello, I have a RedHat 7.3 workstation and have created a samba mount to my samba server. Everything seems to be working ok, but when I reboot my RH workstation the mount is not reestablished. I believe the problem is that when I reboot the machine the samba share is not unmounted. After rebooting the machine when I run smbstatus on the samba server it indicates the mount is still active.

Samba LDAP PDC, BDC + Shared Interdomain Trust secret
Hi there, I have a Samba PDC and BDC migrated from NT4 using ldapsam with an interdomain trust to a 2k3 domain. The trust is established both ways and was made from the pdc. Using samba 3.0.14a-sernet on Suse 9.1 The trust is working. I can pull users from the trusted domain and apply them to acls on my samba DMS. Winbind adds the idmap entry correctly. What is not working, is authentication from
