Packages, generics, S3 and S4
My question has two parts. The first is with regard to the frame or environment in which generic functions are defined in packages. It seems as though they are defined (i.e. exist as objects) in frame 1, even when defined in a package. The following is a short example: setClass("track",representation(x="numeric",y="numeric")) plotTrack <- function(x,y,...)

Unloking gnome keyring on login
I hope someone can help me because I have spent a week on this and still I can't make it to work. I have a CentOS 5.5 server and I am trying to set it up so that upon login the gnome default keyring is unlocked. I don't have a desktop as users will login using ssh only. I have search the forum and google it, and I did find some help. All the articles though said to change /etc/pam.d/gdm

excel files and R
Greetings everyone, I am new at R. My questions is rather basic. Looking R manuals looks like there should be a way to read MS excel files into R. Could somebody tell me which library should I use for that? Thanks in advance Victor H. Jobs stay in WinXP-Printer-Queue, never processed by CUPS
Hi! I've shared a CUPS Printer via Samba, Samba is connected to a Win2003 SP1 Domain to authenticate users. Most of the time all works nice, but sometimes there are errors. For example it seems that a WinXP client can't deliver the print-jobs to samba/cups anymore. The jobs just stay in die windows Printer queue. log.smdb: [2007/04/03 11:13:34, 2]

DatabaseModifiedError on get_data - best practice?
Hi, I have previously had a problem with getting this error on a get_mset call, and solved it by subclassing XapianEnquire with a backoff-and-retry algorithm (as suggested by this list, many thanks!). However, I now get it intermittently when calling get_data on a XapianDocument. The same solution doesn't seem to be quite as easy in this case, because: 1. The document is not instantiated

DNS update - NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT every 10 minutes
I have an unusual problem that I can't seem to figure out. As a background I had to rebuild my Samba4 AD DC from scratch, since my USB stick went out. The Samba4 AD DC is now running on a Raspberry Pi with the root file system on an external USB hard drive. It also has an email server using postfix/dovecot/spamassassin on it too. It's very cool to have an AD DC and email server
