root != admin domain user?
Hi all,
Samba has been running as PDC for some months in a row w/o no issues so
far.
Users and machines were created and added to the domain correctly...
Now I'm facing the following problem... I hope it's easy to solve...
Although machines have been added to the domain using the root user, and
it's mapped to Administrator in /etc/samba/smbusers, when a situation

Access to shares too slow
Hi all,
we recently moved our offices to a bigger place. Therefore all our
servers and network electronic had to be turned off... :)
Well, I know it sounds odd but after the move Samba is much slower
serving the shares and users have to wait ages for the information to be
copied or moved across the network. In some cases, Windows desktops seem
to freeze until the data is retrieved from the

Where to post SuSE 9.x startup script?
Hi all,
I just modified one of the startup scripts provided on the tarball to
fit on my SuSE 9.x system to start/stop Asterisk when the system boots
or goes down.
Maybe I'm overseeing the answer but could't find where to
post/(cvs)upload the changes I made...
TIA,

Files creation ownership
Dear Samba Gurus,
I would like to know how to configure Samba to keep the file ownership
when someone creates a file on the Win95/98/NT boxes, instead of having
everything set to guest.guest, what forces to change the ownership for
that file to the right user.group everytime.
For example:
On the UNIX side, there's an account like martin.develop, so when I log
in the network using a Win box,

Unique instances of a string in a vector -- there must be a better way to do this
I'm sure there's a better way to do this using plyr. I just can't nail the
right series of commands.
I've got a vector of strings. I want to remove all where the string's count
within the vector is > 1.
Right now I'm using:
Where x2 is the original data.frame and my character strings live in x2[,3].
Based on my results, that looks like it works, though if someone

Strange connection to the outside...
Hi all,
for some strange reason, our still-under-test Asterisk deployment wants
to contact the outside world and that raised some eyebrows here...
Just a sample of our firewall log:

FIX YOUR AUTO-RESPONDERS!!!
PLEASE CONFIGURE YOUR AUTORESPONSERS TO NOT SEND MESSAGES TO PEOPLE WHO POST IN MAILING LISTS YOU SUBSCRIBE TO.
This is an extremely rude thing to allow, and is becoming increasingly common, especially with users of the Asterisk-Users list.

[OFF] The "best" tool for a space-temporal analyses?
Hi,
I try to make an analyses to discover what is the time that an area begin to
have spacial autocorrelation. And after, what is the number of individuals
responsible for this autocorrelation.
The main idea is to discover if exist a contamination of a quadrat from others
quadrats and how is the population needed to make this contamination.
This is very common to use automata to simulate

conservative robust estimation in (nonlinear) mixed models
Conservative robust estimation methods do not appear to be
currently available in the standard mixed model methods for R,
where by conservative robust estimation I mean methods which
work almost as well as the methods based on assumptions of
normality when the assumption of normality *IS* satisfied.
We are considering adding such a conservative robust estimation option
for the random effects to

Code owner for the new AVR backend
Hello all,
I have submitted and merged patches for most of the public modifications
required for the AVR backend, and I am amount to start the process of
adding the lib/Target/AVR directory piece by piece.
As this will be a significant portion of code (~7000 lines), it should have
a code owner.
I have been working on the backend for the last year, maintaining it,
overseeing contributions, and

Dear all,
I am new to this list so please excuse me if my posting should not
correspond 100% to the rules. Furthermore, even if I use SAMBA since
many years, I have only a very basic knowledge of this software.
I am experiencing a problem with my SAMBA primary domain controller that

I think it would be good to get Kostya's explicit sign-off on this before
committing it, as he has been directing and overseeing the sanitizer work
as a whole over the past year.

Windows PDC and Samba PDC
In our company we have two separated domains, I mean, there's not trust
relationship at all.
I can see the windows 2000 domain in the browse list but not the computers
that belong to that domain.
How should I set up my samba server or the windows client to fix the small
problem???

Suggestion: Change default to download.file(..., mode="wb") ...instead of mode="w" with some bells and whistles
Hi,
I keep seeing the problem where people are download binary files as
text (mode="w") when using R's download.file() for FTP/HTTP downloads.
It often results in unnecessary troubleshooting until one concludes
that the downloaded file has been corrupted due to (what I think is)
translated newlines. Search the r-help mailing list and you'll find
other examples of this. This

config problem with 1.2.2 on Redhat 6.1 / pam
Hi there!
I have a small - but essential :) - problem with the above configuration. I
compiled the 1.2.2 version straight forward, with almost default settings
(sysconfdir=/etc/ssh)
After that I copied the sshd.pam to /etc/pam.d, generated the host-key and
started sshd

I am trying to get Brain Explorer to work under debian etch kernel
