Samba BDC at company branch in different subnet?
Hello guys,
i just wanted to ask about an idea, if it is feasible (or not).
The company i work for (350 users) has 2 branches, that are
interconnected with HQ via L2TP (encapsulated in IPsec) tunnels, that
are setup in between Mikrotik routers.
current setup:
300 users
HQ 192.168.2.0/23
Samba PDC + LDAP
(389 DS) backend

Promote samba-3 BDC to PDC
Hi,
We have an old domain with a samba-3 PDC and LDAP backend in our HQ and
two BDC in our branch offices.
Since we don't use the domain in our HQ anymore and one of the branches
will be moved to our new domain (2003/2008) I'm thinking about
decomissioning the PDC and promote both BDCs as PDC for their branch
offices and networks.
I would also get rid of LDAP. Changing the backend to

Migrating domain from Samba 3 to Windows 2003
At the risk of being called a turncoat and traitor in Sambaland, I ask,
"how do I migrate from a Samba 3 domain to a Windows 2003 Active
Directory domain?"
A customer has determined that they wish to use the groupware features
of Microsoft Exchange. They already have the licenses they need, so
there's no point in convincing them that Samba will be cheaper or that

Replication problems
Hi everyone,
Samba4 has been going great for quite a while now, so I thought I would get a little adventurous. The goal is to install Openchange with SOGo.
The SOGo part is fine, but Openchange extends the AD schema in a similar way that Exchange extends the AD schema. To facilitate this, I joined a new DC to the domain, and transferred the fsmo schema role to this new DC. When I say

pdbedit -Lw reports "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" for password
I've searched google and the samba archives to no avail (appologies if
I've missed something), so I will ask the community directly:
I am trying to convert a fully populated smbpasswd file to the tdbsam backend:
# pdbedit -i smbpasswd:./smbpasswd -e tdbsam:./passdb.tdb
This seems to work, on the surface, but upon inspection I find that
# pdbedit -Lw username

Administrator cannot connect to samba on 2008 R2 ADS members
I have an odd situation where Samba 3.x domain members in an Active
Directory 2008 R2 domain cannot authenticate the Administrator. All
other users work, but if I try to connect to the samba services as the
domain Administrator, authentication fails. The Windows domain
controllers are happy to accept connections from the Administrator (e.g.
using smbclient) but the Linux (Centos 5.5 and 5.6)

T.38 fax solution, opinions?
Hi,
I'm putting together a fax solution for my company that utilizes T.38. I
wanted to throw out my plan and get some feedback if anyone is doing
something similar or sees a blatant problem with it.
We're currently rolling out SPA-942 phones for the standard desk phone with
vanilla Asterisk 1.4.15 (just upgraded it today) on the back end. Most calls

samba 2.2.1a and WAN-Shares
Hi out there,
I`ve not a real problem (currently), but a few questions on wan-wide (read:
low bandwidth) share distribution with samba 2.2.1a. The setup described
below was developed in a hurry (was needed by tomorrow :-\).
Are there better ways to do this?
What are the pros and cons of using the msdfs - options in this situation?
Has anyone set up a similar share topology? If so, would you

passwd program example for parsing new password typed?
hello,
I have two domains, one w2k3 and one with samba 3.
The users log on to the samba domain and use outlook connected on
exchange on w2k3 domain.
pwd age for the two domains is aligned.
On another samba 3.0.23c linux machine inside the w2k3 domain (ads
security parameter set) I have set up a script that allows to change
the w2k3 domain password for the user, using ldapmodify command to

I have installed and configured kerberos and samba so that the
server can be a member of an existing Active Directory (AD). Correct
configuration of kerbos was verified using kinit and klist. The samba
configuration was verified by using "smbclient -k -L server". winbind

SMB Network design guidelines
Hi:
Can anybody point me to some guidelines about SMB network design or
give some advice? Samba HOWTOs are very detailed recipes, but I need
some general tips, like if we are serving fish or pasta tonight :-)
This is the situation: a WAN with 20 offices with 2 to 30 people in
each, plus a headquarter with 50 people, plus the databases and
central file servers. The organization grew up on a NT4

Re: Please help me with migration to MS Windows 2003
Replying on list so others may help or benefit...
Arne,
It's been a while since I've done one of these migrations, but here's a
couple of things to try:
- Make sure the clients' primary DNS server is an Active Directory
Integrated DNS (in a single-DC environment, the DNS is usually the same
machine as the W2K3 domain controller)
- In the clients' Advanced TCP/IP

Password issue
Hi
Running Samba version 3.0.22-13.18 on Suse 10.1 using a tdbsam backend
as a PDC.
I created a new policy using the pdbedit tool (mim. password length,
amount of times a bad password can be entered before getting locked out
etc). This policy is working fine apart from one issue. Users must
reset their passwords every 90 days. Again this works user is prompted
to change password and
