PDC, NIS and password sync.
Hi. I have for a while been trying to get my samba 2.2.1a PDC to be a NIS master and still maintain the password sync feature, without any luck. Now I made something that seems to work - but I would like to get your input to see if what I do is ok or it is something I should'nt do. 1: Samba uses passwd to sync the password (not yppasswd) 2: cron runs make in /var/yp every 15 minutes to

Help with nis password changes
I normally try not to ask questions until I have done as much research as possible, and again, this is the case... Just after I thought I had my RH5 samba/nis server working fine, I come across the inability to update nis passwords. >From the server as root: passwd guest1 Changing password for user guest1. New UNIX password: Retype new UNIX password: NIS password could not be changed.

Problem with yppasswd ans openssh on Irix
Hi, I compiled openssh 2.1.1p1 on Irix 6.2 with MIPS 7.2.1.2m compiler. All works fine except the yppasswd command from Irix (it's no NIS-problem, same with rlogin works): Logged in with 'ssh machine -l user1' # who user1 ttyq0 Jun 19 15:17 (xxxxx.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de) # ypcat passwd |grep user1 user1:xxxxxxxxxxxxx:1535:1500:User1:/usr/people/user1:/bin/tcsh # ypcat passwd |grep

Inconsistent NIS Client Behavior w/ Centos 7.6
Hi All. I am working on bringing back a number of Centos 7 rigs in our student computer lab back online. No change was made to the existing server machine [running Scientific Linux 6] Right now there is one remaining thing to resolve: an inconsistency with the rigs' NIS Clients. I have configured rcpbind and ypbind following guidance from Server World (

LDAP-based NIS server .vs. NIS migration to LDAP?
Greetings! I tried to post this question to openldap group but somehow my post never showed up there. Anyway, I built PDC using Samba3 and OPENLDAP and now like to integrade NIS service to it. I searched the net there are quite a few guides on how to replace NIS with LDAP. However, in our environment, we have almost all sorts of Unix platforms, e.g. Linux (mainly Redhat), Solaris, HPUX, AIX,

Help in performing a Half-Migration from NT to samba3.
I am currently planning "half a migration" (and half a new configuration) from NT to Samba PDC, and I would like to have some help. I have read the howto and I have understood something useful, but I also understood that I don't know enough of Samba domain internals to be sure not to make terrible mistakes. I currently have a NT4 PDC that also shares files and

"NT-PDC" and "Some Linux-Clients using NIS"...
Hi everybody! I'm planning on realising the following situation: We have a NT-PDC and some Windows-Clients. As Linux becomes more popular and more important in our net, we'd like to use the PDC's user-database for "logon-authentications" on the linux-computers too. Planned are some linux workstations and at least one server. My idea so far is to have the linux clients

How do I change samba password from windows in sarge
Hi folks, we have a lan with win and linux clients (pcs work alternating between win and linux-ubuntu, server is sarge). Authentication in linux works with nis. Therefore I substituted passwd by yppasswd. How can y realize password changes in win to get the linux (yp) and the samba password changed in one step? By the way: do I have to substitute passwd by yppasswd on the server too? Thanks

NIS to SAMBA4 Migration
Hello everyone, I am trying to figure out a way to migrate NIS maps to SAMBA4 (I want to replace NIS with SAMAB4 for a Linux domain. I have researched a fair bit on the web but have not found out any solutions and was hoping I could find some help here. What I have found so far pertains to Windows implementations of Active Directory. Here are my questions. 1) Is it possible with a default

NIS and NT PDCs?
Hi all, Unfortunately, due to the fact that Samba can't yet handle domain trust relationships with other NT domains, I'm forced to use an NT PDC for now. However, since I've recently moved my entire user base over to Unix accounts for e-mail purposes, I'd really rather not have to deal with creating new accounts for them all. Does anyone know if it is possible to have NT

AD LDAP for auth, NIS for uid?
I would like Samba to: - authenticate usernames against an Active Directory LDAP without joining the domain, and - use NIS to translate usernames to userids. Because of company politics, I can't join or modify the Active Directory domain. However, I can get a service account for querying AD LDAP. Given the following info, what should my smb.conf look like? AD domain: fake.domain.com AD

LDAP auth with nis.schema
I'm wondering if it's possible to get samba to auth against LDAP without saving multiple hashes in the directory? I'd like to keep it to the hash that we use to auth unix-systems today, without cluttering the directory with other hashes that need to be synchronized etc. -- Odd Rune

Samba not announcing the correct IP address to a Windows NT Wins server
We have two systems with dual NICs that run samba 2.2.5 with winbind, and neither of them is announcing the system's primary IP address correctly to the WINS server. The systems show up in the wins database with the secondary IP address (which is the private network we use for the heartbeat/meta data on our CXFS cluster). We worked around it by entering the correct IP addresses for these
