Problem adding user to Administrator list
Hi, all, We are using Samba 3.0.10 with an LDAP backend. It's been working fine for a long time. One strange thing that has come up today : I cannot add 1 specific domain user to the local Administrator group of Windows servers that are also in the domain. Adding the user to the admin group on a workstation works just fine. Adding other users to the admin group on the Windows servers

They both use LDAP; the LDAP has a master on the site where the PDC is; the slave LDAP is on the site where the BDC is. There is a user (ONE to be precise) that gives problems when working on a specific machine. When the user logs in using his machine; he

read (and edit?) registry files on Linux
Hello, Is there a way in Linux to read Windows registry files? I have only ssh access to the Linux/Samba server, and would like to be able to check settings in user profiles (in their ntuser.dat files). Best would be if I could even edit settings in there. For now, it seems the only thing I can do is scp the files to a Windows machine, and manually load the hives in regedt32. Very

Encrypted passwords for Windows 2000
Does anyone Know the procedure for Windows 2000 workstation, in order to not encrypt passwords. What I needed is something similar to the transcription I make below that works for windows nt4 and 98. Thank's Emanuel Duarte (Portugal) ********************************** This should take care of the "clear text password" problemsyou've encountered: For Win 98 (To enable

In the WinNT.txt file there is the following proposal: [ --- Start of pasted text --- ] The following registry entry change will re-enable clear text password handling: Run regedt32.exe and locate the hive key entry:

No, isn't. but you have to try; 'cos, in my opinion, of course, you won't login in bdc; but, the roaming profiles (home directory) must be in pdc; if that works, you will try set (in bdc): logon path = \\PDC\blablabla... here's a fix for Goldmine (and other ISAM database based programs) on Windows NT/2000/XP clients talking to samba
Goldmine seems to a compiled database application compiled in something likeClipper. Clipper applications record lock through ISAM like files (DBF). However, in Windows NT/2000/XP, Opportunistic locking is turned on by default in order to accelerate file transfer from file services. [Windows 95/98 did not Opportunisticly lock] However, opportunistic locking corrupts ISAM and ISAM like

Remote Registry Changes
Heyho. I'm trying to add registry entries to my workstations remotely from my server. I can currently do this remotely from any other workstation, using the standard Windows regedt32, but I'd like to do it form the server. .. The server is Samba 3.0.22-r3 on a Gentoo server. I've been digging around for a while now, and have managed to find docs for samba-tng which seem to

Getting remote registry information.
Hey, all. A couple weeks ago, I asked about getting remote registry information, and someone helpfully offered up "net rpc registry [blah]". And it does a decent job, but I'm yet to find the right permutation that would give me a whole branch of the hierarchy (akin to doing an export in regedit). For what I'm looking to do, that would be really, truly handy. Most seem to save
