Access to admin shares on clients
Hello. With my installation of Samba I am thinking to use remote client
software installation. For this I need to have access to admin shares on
clients: such as C$, D$, ADMIN$, etc.... This is where I have a problem.
I can't access those shares using Domain Admin credentials and I can't
find any info on this anywhere in docs. Perhaps this task is not as
common. Would anyone provide

Can't see clients in network neighborhood
Hi list,
Small bug here succesfully setup a samba file server as a domain controller
. Thing is I can't see the clients in network neighborhood - only the file
server.
This seems to also be causing problems for central admin programs, which is
a real concern. Can any one shed light on this?
Thanks,

my samba clients keep randomly dropping out of domain trust
I have one Linux RHEL4 box setup as a PDC and several other Linux RHEL4
samba servers and Windows XP boxes joined to the domain. Ever since
upgrading the Linux box to Samba 3 (they are currently running
samba-3.0.10) I have problems with the Linux samba clients suddenly
dropping out of the domain. Operations suddenly start failing with

"Wbinfo -u" get user account sucessfully but "getent passwd" fails
Hi everybody,
I got a problem here with my Samba ADS member server. It functions as a
file server and works for a long time. A few weeks ago our Active
Directory domain controller failed due to power outage. We fixed it and
now an employee reports that he could not use the samba file server any
more. I restarted samba service and did the following testing:
1) getent passwd <thisUser>

Testing subnets with samba[Scanned]
OK before i start, this was something i was just testing while everyone was in training this afternoon. I have never had to deal with subnets before as we only have a few users, but decided to do a little bit of messing around to gain some experience.
Basically we have one server (mandriva 2006) running samba, it has two 4 port ethernet cards in it but only utilitising one port from each card.

"password server" in smb.conf
Hi,
I use winbindd and to use it I write my Active Directory Domain
Controller in the "password server" directive in smb.conf.
Since I have not one but two servers (for failover situations), can I
write another password server?

Two domains on one network?
I feel I should know the answer to this, but I wanted to verify. I have a
bunch of Windows PC's running Win 2K Pro, on three subnetworks. Two of the
subnets are served by Unix (FreeBSD) boxes running NATD, but all are joined
to a domain being run on a Win 2K Pro server in another building on the
campus. So far I haven't joined the two Unix boxes to the domain.

[[ CD Server ]]
Hi,
I'm building "cheap" print servers using old
Pentium 133 (150, 200 or 233) with 32 (or 64) MB of
RAM memory. Small HDs (2.1, 3.5, 4.2) GB and using
Debian Sarge (3.1), with kernel 2.6, CUPS and Samba
3.0.10.
The print part is ok, works fine and it is just
information to the background. Now our IT team decided
to put a CD and make the "cheap" print servers became

Samba 3.0.23c-1.fc5 problem - groups
Hi there,
I use FC5.
I discovered, for an exemple, if you have a user group with 3 members (Alan,
Baker, Clive), before 3.0.23c this line at smb.conf worked fine:
valid users = @user
But with 3.0.23c update it doesn't work anymore.
You have to replace the line like this:
valid users = Alan, Baker, Clive
I mean, replace the "@groupname" with the complete userlist of the

What management of samba is available for large scale deployment
I'm working for a higher education institution, and we have Novell Netware
for our file sharing services. We are looking at what migration paths
are available.
I know samba works, we use it on a number of Solaris and Linux boxes and
have it authenticate against our Windows ADS. Manually editing samba
confiiguration files for up to a hundred users is OK. The challenge is how
do you manage a

Samba-3.0.23 problem
We had to power down all servers today for electrical maintenance in the
building and for some reason I began having access problems related to
the valid users lists when power was restored.
The dialog from the 'Samba-3.0.23 broke my network' thread seemed as if
it might be related even though I had not performed any software upgrade
so I tried adding the group mappings as discussed in

SAMBA TO AD MIGRATION
Hi to all,
I know that a few posts treat this subject, but I can't found the good
answer to my problem.
I actually have a Samba domain based on a smbpasswd backend.
I must migrate to an AD 2003 and all is working correctly if I don't select
the SID history migration.
If I select this 'SID history migration' option, I received a message 'Could

No predefined Groups
Hello,
I have set up a Samba-Server (samba-3.0.23a-0.1.34.x86_64.rpm and after that
samba-3.0.23c-0.1.36.x86_64.rpm) as PDC and tdbsam-passdb backend. I can
add XP-Computers and Users to the Domain, but the Domain-Users has problems
with Access-Rights on the Win-XP-Systems. The Reason is (i think so) that
samba has not generated the typical Groups: Result from 'net groupmap list'

importing groups from NT 4 server to Samba 3
Hello,
I changed all of the NT user account names to lowercase, however I am unable
to change the group accounts to lowercase. The Samba server is running on
Suse 10.0.
Will the uppercase group names cause any problems during or after the
migration to Samba?
Thanks in advance.
