Dueling master browsers...
I'm having trouble with my Samba 3 PDC and several XP Pro workstations
stealing the master browser status on the network.
These users won't log in to the domain. Logs and purified smb.conf

smbldap-populate problem
I am trying to merge our addressbook, courier-imap, postfix, and samba PDC
entries into a single ldap directory.
I have vampired all the data from our current PDC to use for testing and
it seems that everything is merged and works.
I am writing the docs and I have, for the first time, tried to run
smbldap-useradd for a user who is both a posix user and windows user.
I got an error that the next

impossible to join domain - smbldap-useradd -w "%u" is buggy
Hello all! I have spent a lot of time chasing down what I think is a
bug in smbldap-tools. It seems like many other people have experienced
the same problem too. It was pretty hard to triage so I'm writing it
down here.
The symptom of the problem is that Windows machines cannot join your
Samba+LDAP PDC. When you try to change the domain Windows pops up a
dialog box saying "no such

Hi, I just thought I'd post here some notes after a loong bugsearch.

The problem was that I got this in the sambalog:

Part of the problem was that this isn't a lot to go on, and the command

Needs to run smbldap-useradd as non-root user
Hello,
The abstract is :
How to run smbldap-useradd (and others) with a non-root user, knowing
that giving Samba privileges to the user's account is enough.
Now are details :
My setup is FreeBSD-8, samba35, nss_ldap, smbldap-tools... And NO pam_ldap.
I am creating a webservice which must run smbldap-tools scripts.
Everything is running on a FreeBSD-8, and running fine by root. However,

can't join domain / smbldap-useradd -w machine not working
Hello,
I'm trying to set up Samba + OpenLDAP as a PDC.
I followed the instructions from chapter 6 in Samba-3 by Example, my
system is SuSE 9.1.
ldap, winbind, nmb and smb are running.
testparm says my smb.conf file is OK.
I set LDAP password using smbpasswd -w.
There was a similar post a few days ago (smbldap-tools don't create
machine account properly), but it didn't help me.

As usual I've tried a number of different approaches to this problem

smbldap-populate issues?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi guys,
I appear to have some issues with smbldap-populate, this used to work
fine but I've recently upgraded the dev box from RH8.0 to Fedora Core 1,
I assume it's related but I'm not sure exactly how...
As you can see the first ou creates work, so it must at least be binding
to the ldap server, but it seems to have a problem with the

Could not find base dn, to get next uidNumber
Hi all,
I've got a problem on a pdc based on:
- Fedora Core 2
- samba-3.0.10-1.fc2
- openldap-2.1.29-1
- smbldap-tools-0.9.1-1.1.fc2.rf
Today I've updated smbldap-tools from version 0.8.1 to 0.9.1.
looking at the new configuration files (smbldap.conf in particular) I've
noticed the default value of sambaUnixIdPooldn has changed from the
version I've used until now
- 0.8.1
