server upgrade _net_auth2: creds_server_check failed. Rejecting auth request from
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to upgrade (migrate) from one linux distro (hostname blah) to
another (hostname foobar) using the same server layout, domain and
netbios name and smbpasswd password file. This is a PDC for a windows
domain DOMAIN. The IP has remained the same as the hardware is being
upgraded though I'm changing the hostname and linux distro.
I have copied over the user accounts

user can't logon to specific computer: creds_server_check failed
A few computers -- two or three -- are very spotty about letting
people log on. It seems -- and this could be off-base -- that they'll
let anyone log on once, but will require a reboot before you can log
on again. Sometimes, logging on works fine, though. There really
appears to be little rhyme or reason to what happens.
In the Samba logs, I'm getting:

Moving PDC from Fedora to RHEL5 - _net_auth2: creds_server_check failed. Rejecting auth request from client
Hi,
I'm in need of some help with moving a Samba PDC with LDAP backend from
Fedora linux to RHEL. The DNS is also running on that server and needs
to be moved also. The DNS and LDAP migration was simple enough. The new
server works just fine when using it's own DNS and LDAP for
authentication, and all the users appear to be intact after the LDAP
import. nss_ldap is working just fine.

can't add machine account
I am using FreeBSD 6.2 with Samba 3.0.24.
Samba is set up as PDC and using the tdbsam backend. I'm having a hell
of a time logging in my first machine (say Windows machine BLAH).
First I created my login user on the system side (pw) and the samba
side (pdbedit).
# pw useradd username
# pdbedit -a -u username
Then I create the machine system account:
# pw useradd -g machines -c Machine -d

Machine account being rejected
I have been running Samba at home as a fileserver for a long time and I
have now been changing it to a PDC (later I want to try switching it to
an AD server as a learning experience prior to doing the same on a
server in work, which is already a PDC).I have got it to the point that
it logs onto the user account but not the machine account.
The local machine is called asus, the user account

"Rejecting auth request from client" error after power outage
We had a power failure in our small test lab and the samba server
crashed after the UPS shutdown procedure didn't work quite like it was
supposed to. Upon reboot, the services started fine but none of our 3 XP
test machines were able to login to the Samba PDC. The Samba logs showed
the following...

Seamless update from Samba 2 to Samba 3 on a new server
Hi,
I'm new to the list, I hope i'm posting at the right place ;)
I'm having a hard time trying to update and to move my Samba 2.2 PDC to a
new Debian server.
Currently, the PDC is using Samba 2.2.8 on a Solaris Server. My goal is to
move it to another computer, and to update it to a
newer version (3.0.24)
This must be fully transparent for the users, since I have no time to

Windows XP suddenly can't login to PDC
Hi,
I've got a Samba 3.0.2a PDC running for some time now (like more than a
year) with MS Windows XP clients. But suddenly on January 23 2006 none
of the clients where able to login anymore. The error on the client was
(translated from dutch):
Unable to connect to domain server.
The logfile on the samba side showed:

cannot logon domain after upgrade 3.0.20 to 3.0.28
I have a working copy of Samba 3.0.20 (installed under /usr/samba) configured as a PDC.
Recently I install Samba 3.0.28 under /usr/newsamba, and copy the files lib/smb.conf (with path modifications), private/*, var/locks/* to the new locations.
Following the HOWTO, the groups "Domain Admins", "Domain Users", and "Domain Guests" (with RID's 512, 513, 514 resp.) are

I am trying to migrate my NT4 domain to a samba server which uses an
LDAP server on the backend for authentication
This machine that I want to be the new PDC is running RHEL5 with samba

I used the by-example page

samba rejecting machine accounts
Hi!
I use Debian Sarge + Samba 3.0.22 + OpenLDAP 2.2.23 Server for a
domain controller. Once a month i have to rejoin windows XP clients to
the domain, because samba thinks they're not in the domain(users
cannot log in).
The error message found in each machine log:
_net_auth2: creds_server_check failed. Rejecting auth request from
client T2906 machine account T2906$

Problems with windows 7 logon
Hi,
I'm trying to put a Windows 7 on my samba domain. I compiled samba 3.5.4 in server that is the PDC. It is an HP-UX 11.11 and earlier used the samba distributed by HP. After the changes made to the registry of Windows 7 as the samba wiki site, I can put the machine in domain. At the time of logging an error message appears

Hosts leaving domain without reasons...
Hello all,
I've got Samba 3.0.24-6etch4 (Debian revision) running on a production server
which acts as a PDC for a network of some Windows XP clients (around 250).
Since sometime (I am not able to determine exactly when) I get a strange
problem arising : some clients are banned from my domain. The only solution I
found is to reintroduced the clients into the domain. Once hosts have rejoined

Samba PDC + OpenLDAP machine accounts
Hi everyone,
I'm having a slight problem getting Samba and OpenLDAP to play together.
First off, sorry for the long mail.
I'm struggling to understand the whole machine account business, and to
get them working correctly.
I'm using the smbldap-tools package to create my ldap directory and also
the various users and machine accounts. Creating users works fine, but
