Re: Moving samba PDC to new machine (unable to change domain SID)
So, I followed these directions and got errors in log.nmbd regarding
"domain_master_node_status_fail". There were still entries for the old
server's ip address in connections.tdb, gencache.tdb, locking.tdb and
sessionid.tdb, so I stopped samba, deleted them and restarted. All was
well.
I then changed the SID using "net setlocalsid

net getdomainsid returns two SIDs - how to remove one?
Hi,
How can I remove the "domain PHOENIX" SID from the PDC? It was a test
domain I had set up before this machine went live around 18 months ago.
I believe this is the issue that's causing me to have problems migrating
this PDC to a new machine.
This is the output from the current PDC:
phoenix:/ # net getlocalsid
SID for domain PHOENIX is: S-1-5-21-3597458131-155160113-1223051555

Documentation bug? domadm privileges
Hello
I have been solving a problem how to make a nonroot user able to administer
the domain (add users, groups, modify them etc.) from Windows workstation
using usrmgr.exe
It looks like what is stated in Samba HOWTO collection as prerequisites
is not enough.
First I found Chapter 12 cxl "How to make Samba PDC users member of the Domain
Admins group" - made the nonroot user member of

USRMGR, groups, and ldap
I currently have samba version 3.0.23 installed using ldap as the
backend. I am experiencing the same problems as Holger Wesser mentioned
in his posting "USRMGR.exe not working properly". However, it appears
that the fix of creating the group mappings does not work. They appear
to be mapped correctly on my setup. My net groupmap list is:

srvtools (Usrmgr.exe) : strange problem
Hello everybody. I have noted a strange problem when using Usrmgr.exe
(from srvtools). The problem arise when a net groupmap is done on a
group for which a user exist with the same name that the specified
unixgroup. For example, lets say that I have the following UNIX user and
group create on my Samba server :
joe (in /etc/group)
joe (in /etc/passwd)
Now I create the following map :

Moving samba PDC to new machine (same name?)
I'm using a tdbsam database with Samba 3.0.11 on a machine that's
getting a little long in the tooth. I'd like to move the whole deal to
a new machine without any reconfiguring on the clients - I'm happy with
a little downtime - out of office hours the system is hardly used
anyway. I'd like to upgrade to 3.0.21c at the same time.
I'm thinking:

Problem with duplicated groups?
Hello, i have some problems migrating a Windows 2000 PDC to a Debian
GNU/Linux Samba Server, i want to migrate it to a LDAP backend.. but as
i'm kind of newbie with ldap and samba migration stuff, i preffered to
migrate it to tdbsam first and try it for a while, if everything works
fine, then switch to a ldap backend.
The problem is that Essential Windows Groups are automatically created,

Few questions on configuring Samba as a PDC
Please don't flame me. I did attempt to search before posting this question
(through Gmail), if there's a better way, please let me know!
I followed this article for implementing a Samba PDC:
http://www.howtoforge.com/samba_setup_ubuntu_5.10_p4
Question 1) The only accout that appears to be able to add an account onto
the domain is the root account. There must be a way to change that

USRMGR group problems
I'm having some odd problems with USRMGR and Samba group accounts.
USRMGR seems to work fine for user accounts, and it also correctly
displays the list of group objects (these are all stored in LDAP btw).
This can be seen in http://www.ehsco.com/misc/samba/umgr-main.gif
Two of the groups can be managed while the other two cannot. For example,

Samba 3.0, Windows 2k/XP and usrmgr.exe
Hi there
I've just finished setting my first Samba PDC for 120ish users and so far so
good, although its only been live for 2 days!!
One problem I've come across (actually I had loads but the HOW-TO, Samba
archive and google solved most of them) is with usrmgr. There is one XP
client that I have installed the NT 4 Server Tools software on for the
school IT coordinator (note the phrase
