2.6.0 backwards compatibility
Hello all, I saw on the Release notes that 2.6.0 is using protocol version 27 which is different than 2.5.7 and 2.5.6. I did a quick peak through the rest of the release notes and quickly browsed the archives on the list and I didn't see any notes on how well 2.6.0 works with older versions of rsync. At our site, we do have 2.5.7 and 2.5.6 installed. Are there any documented problems when

Repost: System crash on loading gdm revisited
Hello - I never heard back on this and continue to experience this bug. Can someone help me to locate the patch for this so that I can be sure it's included in my source? It's not happening on every boot, but about every other or third. And just as described in the bug report (the boot works OK, but at the end rather than GDM starting nicely, I get a "fuzzy" screen and the

LDAP syncrepl incompatibility between CentOS 4.x and 5.x
All, After many hours of research I have found there is a incompatibility between OpenLDAP V2.3.x and V2.2.x, or atleast between V2.3.27 the current version on CentOS V5 and V2.2.13 the current version on CentOS V4. The syncrepl feature of OpenLDAP, to keep multiple slapd servers sync'd, was working between CentOS 4 and 5 at one time, as that is how I populated the "slave" servers.

Samab 3.0.6 problems
Running on a Debian server, 3.0r Sid, 2.4.18 kernel. I recently did an apt-get upgrade which upgraded samba from 3.0.5 to 3.0.6 After this upgrade, access to all shares for all users slowed to a crawl. It was possible to browse the folders, to 3-4 folders deep but then Explorer would freeze on the client.Opening files failed. Copying files locally resulted in corrupt files. Clients included

winbindd speeds up 3.0.x with "security = server"
We use "security = server" in order to achieve centralized password management and seamless windows integration for some of our users. Regardless of the intelligence of doing so, there is a noticable several hundred percent slowdown when we switched from Samba 2.2.x to 3.0.x. I've tried 3.0.8, 3.0.10, 3.0.11, 3.0.22 and 3.0.23rc1 -- they all are much slower for opening files,

[kdo@cosmos.phy.tufts.edu: protocol incompatibility between OpenSSH and SSH secure shell?]
Hello all! I didn't see anyone else reply to this, but I also didn't see anything show up on the OpenSSH development list (Cc'ed here). There is a patch call out right now for the pending release of 2.4.0. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of this and if it's already been covered in 2.4.0? Please reply to list and original poster... ----- Forwarded message

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
[samba v3.0.24, gentoo w/ kernel 2.6.15] I'm hoping someone has some insight into the following problem that I've recently encountered: Basically, winxp seems to be creating roaming profiles that are incompatible with another winxp client. I've got two sets of winxp clients, which I'll call 'new' and 'old'. Profiles created (and perfectly usable) by the old

Administrator->root mapping not working on 3.0.10 (3.0.7 fine)
We are using samba 3 on NetBSD with security=domain authenticating against Windows 2003. We have a username map of "root = administrator". In all previous versions of samba tested (2.2.x and 3.0.x), this means when we log on as administrator, we have root access and see the root share. With 3.0.10, we are continually prompted for a password. Log from 3.0.7 below: [2005/01/06 14:25:58,
