Samba 3.0.20b and Win NT 4
Hi.
There are Samba 3.0.20b server and 'local master = yes'.
I can browse network with WInXP or Win98. All is Ok.
But I am getting an error
"The server is not configured for transactions"
when I try to browse network with Windows NT 4.0. I can connect to
any PC on network by `\\PCNAME' command. I can use 'Find PC' on NT.
But can't browse network!

problem with administrator accounts
I have a small domain with a Samba PDB and two Windows clients. My
goal is to have all accounts held centrally on the Linux box, but the
administrator login doesn't work as an administrator.
That is, I can login just fine as 'administrator' (or as any of the
other accounts in the Samba password db), but I don't get
administrative privileges in Windows.
In smb.conf, I have:

Joining domain works - logging in doesn't
I'm building a replacement samba 3.5.6 domain controller to replace an
old 3.0 one. Some other things are changing too. Our user accounts are
now in LDAP rather than flat files (although the machine trust accounts
will remain in a flat file), but that should be hidden from samba as
it's going to be done through NSS. The smbpasswd file is a TDB file and
will remain so. Our users

ADS authentication stopped working
Running Samba mostly on Redhat 5 with version 3.5.4-0.83
Also failed on Debian 3.5.6 and Solaris with a 3.5 version.
Logging details here are from Redhat case.
We have a similar problem on all Unix/Linux systems using
ADS as the backend authentication for samba shares on Unix/Linux.
It was working before today and we didn't change anything.
Today, any time we try smbclient or a Windows drive

Unable to add machine accounts
I have the exact same problem as this guy:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-September/125699.html
He describes it much better and in much more detail than I could, so
I'll let him speak for me.
Unfortunately, I don't have the same solution. nss_ldap is configured
properly, and things like 'getent passwd' and 'id machine-acct$' show
the machine accounts as

Intermittent failures mapping drives.. need debugging help/sugges tions
There is a problem with a user mapping a network drive. Sometimes
he can map it, sometimes he can't.
SAMBA: 3.0-alpha18
UNIX: HP-UX 11.0
rsc is a valid account on the machine he's trying to connect to
(entry in /etc/passwd, decent permissions on home directory and
all parent directories, etc.)
The strange thing is sometimes it works, and sometimes it
doesn't. If it doesn't

smbpasswd complains about LDAP: "Object class violation"
I'm trying to get Samba on a Mac OS X box running as a PDC with an
LDAP backend. I've read through all of the major walkthroughs I can
find, and we've actually already got it running very nicely as a file
server; people are currently authenticating against a different PDC
and then mapping drives from the Samba box in question.
However, I'd like it to be the PDC eventually, but

Trying to debug a WinXP - Win2000 ADS problem.. HELP!
Sorry for the log log file dump, but while looking at some problems
mapping drives, I've run across some stuff.
Below is a chunk of my log when I successfully map a network drive
from a WinXP client to a Samba 3.0-alpha18 server. The thing that
bothers me is that it looks like my DOMAIN\USERNAME combination isn't
being honored and I'm getting in based on a check to the locally

Trying to debug a WinXP - Win2000 ADSproblem..HELP!
Now I could be way of base here, but I run 2 samba web servers with approx 8 people working with them.
So my exp is limited. When I got here the boxes were set up with server level security and I had tons of problems with them.
When I reformatted the units, I actually joined the samba boxes to the domain and set the security to "domain"
I found these steps in an old version of Linux-Mag,

Need LDAP machine entry
I'm trying to troubleshoot a nasty problem with Samba 2.2.8a that I
asked about here a while back, and I need someone with a working
LDAP-Samba PDC -- preferably 2.2.8a, ideally running on Mac OS X, but
I'll take what I can get -- to post the results of an ldapsearch for
one of their machine trust accounts. All I'd need is the results of a
command along these lines:
ldapsearch -LLL

users map with ADS not working
Hi All
I am running two instances of samba on same box. One instance of samba has joined AD domain ABC and the other 123. My workstation is on ABC domain and when I try to connect to samba server on ABC domain, it asks me for user name and password and then fails. If I put IP address instead it works. At the same time, when I try to connect to 123 domain, it asks me for user name and password and

Map to Guest not working
All,
I've migrated a share from an older samba server (3.0.33) running on a
Sun Solaris box to a newer samba server (3.6.23) running on a RedHat
Linux 6 box.
For the most part I've tried to keep the configuration the same (simply
to make the migration easier since I'm not an expert on Samba config
options).
I got the authentication working (security=domain) but now I'm

getpwnam() fails for LDAP Users on AIX 5.3
Hello List,
below our smb.conf and loglevel 5 output of a failed authentication. We
want to get the Unix User details from MS-SFU using the new idmap_ad
Backend.
If the Windows User is mapped to local name it's all fine. But if we want
to use our SFU Users it fails. We believe getpwnam() on AIX is faulty.
"id username" and login works for all users local and AD!
Any ideas how to

password sync "Failed to open/create TDB passwd" - some progress
I made a little progress. It is partly a file permissions error.
If I change the permission of /usr/local/samba/private to 660. Since
the unix Administrator (ie. Windows Domain Administrator) is in the
sysadmin group, this gives it read-write permissions to this file.
Under windows, as the Domain Administrator, I can now change account
properties such as "password never expires."

user can't logon to specific computer: creds_server_check failed
A few computers -- two or three -- are very spotty about letting
people log on. It seems -- and this could be off-base -- that they'll
let anyone log on once, but will require a reboot before you can log
on again. Sometimes, logging on works fine, though. There really
appears to be little rhyme or reason to what happens.
In the Samba logs, I'm getting:
