cAos/CentOS Users in Boston/New England area
I'm still looking for any volunteers in the Boston or New England areas that would be willing to help out at LinuxWorld in February. It goes Feb 14th - 17th, but the expo part is only 15th - 17th. If you can't come all three days, that's fine, but I would appreciate if there were a couple people that could come at least a day or two. Also, If you help out you get a 3 day pass to the

will this clever plan work?
allow me to play someone with a fractional clue for the moment. What I want is a Gentoo based system that can run multiple virtual instances (maybe as many as 10 or 20) of a stock application configuration. My fantasy is that I will be able to build a single disk image for all of the basic OS and application to be shared between multiple virtual machines. Update that single core image using

Invalid parameters for bitrate
Hi! I'm very impressed with the progress Ogg Vorbis has made, ever since getting that T-shirt at LinuxWorld Expo :-) Using oggenc, I've run into a problem, though: "Mode initialisation failed: invalid parameters for bitrate" This happens when 2 conditions are true: 1) the input file has a sampling rate less than 44100, and 2) the -M parameter is used to specify a maximum

Ring file
When I call into my Asterisk system, before the call is picked up, I hear a ring tone. What is that tone called & where is stored and configured. I'd like to replace the ring with an announcement that is played until the call is picked up or put into voicemail. TIA

Mine has been working well, but the only problem is that it doesn't support callerid (from the POTS side). > -----Original Message----- > From: John Schmerold [mailto:john@katy.com] > Sent: Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:37 PM > To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com > Subject: Re: [Asterisk-Users] Zhone Zplex 10 units > > Thanks for the Zplex heads up. > > Steven

Time capsule and "bad smb"
Hello, I'm having trouble connecting to an Apple Time Capsule's smb shares. The connection doesn't work, and with "dmesg" I see the following message, repeated every time I try: [26937.531511] CIFS VFS: RFC1001 size 39 bigger than SMB for Mid=4 [26937.531580] Bad SMB: : dump of 48 bytes of data at 0xffff880052832380 [26937.531615] 00000027 424d53ff 00000074 00018800

mac os 10.5.5 and symbolic link to www
We have a new server running Red Hat 5.2EL. Windows machines can samba to the linux server with no problems, including symbolic links to the www directory. Our Mac OS 10.5.5 machines have a problem with symbolic links to the www directory. On the Mac computers, the symbolic links show up as an alias that cannot be followed. These same MAC computers can samba to the www directory via a symbolic

Unable to set ACLs with Samba 3.0.11, near publication deadline
Hello, Jeremy and Jerry, I met both of you at LinuxWorld in Boston, where I learned tons and tons of great stuff from your presentations. I'm writing on deadline for publication and would really, really, really like to show off Samba's ability to map NT ACLs to POSIX ACLs. But right now, I can't make them work. I've spent some time on the Samba list trying to make this work, but

Samba 4.6.5 Active Directory on CentOS
I am using Jeff Bales' procedure for configuring SAMBA with Active Directory https://thingsdomakesense.wordpress.com/2017/06/06/installing-samba-4-6-5-active-directory-on-centos-7-1611/ When everything is all said & done everything seems to work, but I am not able to configure home directories because the users don't have local Linux accounts - I suspect I need to bind Linux's

Samba in a production database environment
Is anyone using SAMBA 3 with DBISAM databases? I've tried what I believe to be every combination of security and file lock settings without success. The program ( ACS - Automated Church Software ) reports numerous errors, of course the only officially supported network is Windows Server. Things worked ok with Samba 2, however SAMBA seems to have broken things. DBISAM is a product of

Public file share Samba 4.6.5
I am trying to configure a public file share on \\fs1\vol1 From a Windows 7 command prompt, I enter: dir \\fs1\vol1 Windows says: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. Where am I going wrong? Error log says: " SPNEGO login failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER" - that must have something to do with this, but I thought that was the point of "map to guest = Bad User"

Some timings for 64 bit Opteron (ATLAS, GOTO, std)
Hi Martin, When I attended the LinuxWorld Expo in NYC back in January, I chatted with some folks at the AMD booth, as well as guys from Penguin Computing (where we bought our Opteron box). I was told that the Operton has this somewhat strange setup that the memory is controlled by one CPU. The net effect of this being that when both CPUs are running, one might only be running at around 90%
