Disapearing Drives
I have been having a problem with my Samba server for about a month now
and need help. I am having users mysteriously losing access to drives
during the day. The drive will un-map itself and any further attempt to
access it through wither Windows Explorer or just typing the UNC in the
"Run" window will result in a "Drive or path not accessible" error. On
the samba side,

3.0.23c Debian packages installation error
The latest Debian 3.0.23c-1 packages will not install on my Etch test
machine. The packages seem to be fighting over who owns files. If I
try to install them individually, dependencies kick in and I get the
same result.
Ideas?

Disapearing print share
Samba 3.4.7 on Ubuntu Lucid; every so often, a workstation cannot print.
Restarting Samba fixes it. I finally noticed that, when broken, the
print share no longer shows up in 'smbclient -L'. And, I get messages in
the logs like:
[2010/07/30 12:16:11, 0] smbd/service.c:1202(make_connection)
10.1.1.3 (10.1.1.3) couldn't find service petunia

Windows XP Files Disapearing
When I mount a drive via Windows XP and copy a file via Samba, the file appears to be copied. When I refresh the window in Windows Explorer, however, it disappears! When I copy the *same* file a second time, Windows asks me if I want to *replace* the file (as if it were there but I just can't see it). I've attached the Samba drive to my Windows XP machine and I can see the file that I

Best dahdi switchtype to emulate (network side)?
We are connecting a new device to our voice system, and the vendor has
a whole list of "supported" network devices and associated parameters
for the Telco to adjust... Yes, it's the telcos issue... Anyway, out
of all of the swtich types that dahdi can emulate, what is the most
complete/tunable solution?
The premise for those interested is a PRI connection to a Dialogic

samba fails to start.
After a hiccup or two with Samba not wanting to restart, I opted to
look for a pid/lock file and found none.
Tried to correct by restarting the server and had no success with
samba restarting.
There are no errors in smbd.log
I did apt-get upgrade. No help
I did apt-get remove samba, samba and swat went away.
I did note that the XXXX pid was not found during install when samba
was to be killed.

Keeping DNS out of Samba
Hi!
There has been a few questions on the samba mailing list, some of which
(eg https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14518) are reoccurring
often, some aren't.
And I, once again, want to remind that there's another approach to DNS
in samba, which avoids all these and many other issues, but it requires
a bit of work. The benefit is to have DNS under control again as in
the old good

Pigeonhole Sieve IMAP flag question
Hello,
Here is a small script that I've been running to test a problem I've been
seeing. Shouldn't this result in the mail being delivered to the inbox as
a new message (ie. without the \Seen flag)?
require "imap4flags";
addflag "\\Seen";
removeflag "\\Seen";
Every message gets delivered to the inbox as though it's already been

problem clearing the "Read Only" attribute from Windows XP
I am trying to configure a share using Samba version 2.2.7a, and have
not been able to clear the "Read Only" attribute of created folders from
within XP.
In smb.conf, I have: read only = no, and am mapping the archive, system
and hidden attributes to the Linux x bits.
I have set the permissions for all users to allow changing attributes
and permissions, yet the bit always returns

White boxes appearing instead of graphics.
Well, a few days ago I was using my XP laptop when I was unable to boot windows, I tried all sorts of things and couldn't get it to run, so I turned to Linux. I backed up all my stuff and today I installed Ubuntu (Maverick). In other words, I'm completely new to Linux.
I heard about Wine and I installed it and I can't believe how well it works o_o, but I seem to be having a

strange cisco nat issue
Hi All,
I'm running into a reoccurring nat issue, phones (Linksys, Polycom or
Cisco) behind a cisco router, 2600 series, ios 12.4. Sometimes 2 or
more phones will have the same outside port number and will register
to Asterisk with the same port number. As far as I can tell this is
only occurring with the SIP port, not RTP ports.
To resolve, I have to go into the router and clear the

R is not for Relational
R is not for Relational, but could be...
I was musing on data.frames when I decided what I needed was a SQL
like 'select' statement.
Before I get involved in writing something like that, has anyone else
written anything that allows a relational like algebra on data.frames?
Thanks,

Two different issues with dovecot 1.1.13
Hi Timo,
I'm using Debian backports.org dovecot-imapd, 1:1.1.13-2~bpo50+1. I've got
two different issues, a reoccurring, seemingly harmless one about
"Corrupted index cache file" (boring.txt)
and one that went bonkers over the least few days (bt.txt) causing much
spamming of the logs.
I've made bt.txt stop happening by just rm'ing dovecot.index* :

R extracting regression coefficients from multiple regressions using lapply command
Hi, I have a question about running multiple in regressions in R and then
storing the coefficients. I have a large dataset with several variables,
one of which is a state variable, coded 1-50 for each state. I'd like to
run a regression of 28 select variables on the remaining 27 variables of
the dataset (there are 55 variables total), and specific for each state, ie
run a regression of
