Re: Need HELP in upgrading SAMBA 2.2.12 to 3.0.20
You accidentally asked the development list this...
However, the program is quite compatible, and upgrades easily.
If you want to be careful, install the new samba somewhere other
than on your production machine, then run the new version of
testparm on the smb.conf file from your older system. Ask
this list about any errors and warnings (and CC me (:-)).
Then try using the new samba to

Samba with ADS on Sun Solaris System
Hi,
We are facing problems while configuring SAMBA ADS on Sun Solaris
system. After installation and configuration we found that there is no
ADS support on the version samba-3.0.21a-1-noads-sunos5.9-sparc.pkg.gz.
Do you have any ADS support package for Sun Solaris 9.

Upgrading Samba
I am in the process of planning for a samba upgrade. The current version
of Samba (2.2.8a) runs on a Sunfire 280R with Solaris 8. The intended
new platform is a sunfire V240 with Solaris 9 as the OS. The new version of
Samba will be Samba-3.0.10. Please note that the Samba server will be a
member of a domain.
I've read Samba-3 by Example, Chapter 8 which describes to the process of

I have a requirement to run R within a specific user account on Solaris 5.10 and I do not have access to compilers and or shared libraries on the target machine. I thought I could build R static ( I've build it locally on Solaris with shared libraries) and just ftp the build to the target Solaris box. Can any help with what

Cut'n Paste slow in Word 2002(sp-2)
Hi
When using cut'n paste in word on a 2MB document with different formattings, the paste takes 3 seconds
to appear. Tried samba 2.2.8 3.0.1 3.0.2, used different options in speed.txt. Nothing helps.
The problem doesn't exsist on a 50KB document, or if i convert the 2MB document to older word 6.0(its size increase to 10MB).
Server is SunFire 280R,Antares Quad Gigabit ethernet, Solaris 9.

100GB incremental backups
We've recently migrated my entire University including faculty and staff from Novell to Samba.
There's typically 700+ clients connected to the samba server at any given time and thus far there are about 400GB of client's files on the server.
Basically every Microsoft Windows user generated file (Word, Excel, whatever) of the entire University gets stored on my Samba server.

Server recommendations for running Xen/Debian?
Hi all,
Sorry for the slight off topicness, but I''m looking around for an OEM
Opteron server (more server will follow later) at the moment that will
run Xen 3.0 and Debian Sarge. Basically I''m looking for any ideas and
opinions about how well and how easily the hardware is supported by a
Xen/Debian environment (for both domUs and dom0). Ideally a server

Disappointing Performance Using 9i RAC with OCFS on Linux
Wim,
Thanks for your prompt response on this. The tpmC figures look very
impressive, and tpmC is read intensive.
I had already read note 236679.1 "Comparing Performance Between RAW IO
vs OCFS vs EXT2/3" which I guess is the article to which you are
referring; it made me suspect that the poor performance was due to the
lack of an OS IO cache but I wasn't sure.

CentOS Cluter on SunFire X4100s
Greetings!
Just joined the list, after looking at the mail archives and such.
I have a few SunFire X4100s on the way, and I was wondering if anyone
here has ever ran CentOS in a cluster environment? (I'm looking in
Oscar's general direction.)

DTrace probes for R
I've integrated some DTrace [1] probes into R. Namely a probe which
fires on fuction entry and return and one which fires before / after a
garbage collection.
Is there any interest in merging something like this into R-devel? If
yes, I'd like to discuss which probes and what data would be useful /
interesting from a developers standpoint.
Greetings from Dortmund,
Olaf Mersmann
