WINS problem discovered and fixed!! browsing speedup of 20X for large networks
Ok, after several months of pulling my hair out I finally fixed WINS and
browsing at out Univesity. It ended up being an acutal bug, er bad code
segment. To explain we have a large number of clients ~1000+ at any one
time over 6 subnets. Browsing was spuratic at best. nmbd sucked up %70
of the proccessing power of a sparc 5. Well after serious investigation
I traced it down to two lines of

p2v with cciss failure
I have continued on with my attempts to get p2v working will little success.
I have changed my server to Fedora 16 and finally got an XP with a
single SATA disk (sda) to work. I think that this means that the
current virt-p2v.iso just doesn't work with the packages that are
available on Centos 6 at the moment.
However, the machines that I currently need to actually migrate all

Oplocks, Oplock_break and request Oplock_break
Hello there.
I'm having a few problems using samba 2.2.3a and sharing a paradox database. On the whole
everything works fine but (there's always a but), every now and again. a machine's shares will
close causing the database to crash (sometimes only that machine) - the other networked
machine recover after a few error messages.
I guess the easy answer would be to disable oplocks

rtc in /proc/interrupts
Hi - I am using centos 4.6 on an ebox 4300. Everything seems to be
working except the
/proc/interrupts rtc is always constant. On other machines the rtc
(which ztdummy from asterisk) is always incrementing.
the uhci_hcd and ehci_hcd are both running.
What can cause this?

Sip device not login or register calls to that device go to busy voicemail not un-available
I feel this is in error some place. If I call a sip device that is not registered or not connected at the time. Asterisk will send that call to voicemail to busy not unavailable. Is there a way to correct this?

Need some help please.
Hi,
I have a little problem and I am trying hard to understand but
it is very hard when you get to my age and truly when things change so fast
it just keeps getting harder to keep up but I am trying. What I need to do
is by using a ssh shell to my server redhat 7.3 and running rsync to do a
full back up mirror of the hard drive OS and all. The drive has some bad

Irregular Time Series: zoo & its: Pros & Cons
I am the maintainer of its, but not it's original author.
One of the main strengths of its is that it uses POSIXct dates.
Zoo has the flexibility of using almost any date format, but I don't
know if the other date formats can store hour, min, sec data.
You might want to do a little exploring with each before you commit.
I'll be happy to give you a hand if you decide to work with

The Array Programming Languages Conference APL-Berlin-2000
Hello!
The Array Programming Languages Conference will be from
24th - 27th July 2000
Please look at:
http://stat.cs.tu-berlin.de/APL-Berlin-2000/
Chairman's Address
APL Berlin 2000 will take place in a city which is worth a visit even
without array processing languages. There is a fortunate coincidence:
Much activity in scientific and commercial institutions is based on such
languages.

Thank you very much,

Using plyr::dply more (memory) efficiently?
Hi all,
In short:
I'm running ddply on an admittedly (somehow) large data.frame (not
that large). It runs fine until it finishes and gets to the
"collating" part where all subsets of my data.frame have been
summarized and they are being reassembled into the final summary
data.frame (sorry, don't know the correct plyr terminology). During
collation, my R workspace RAM usage goes
