Fw: Question regarding samba with DFS support
Hello all,
We have a Samba environment to provide DFS access to Windows users.
Most of the users can work with their files in DFS with no problems.
However, at least one of them can not delete his own files in a shared
directory. The following is the setup we have:
OS : AIX 5.3.04
Samba : 3.0.23c-1
Clients : Windows XP Professional
Filesystem: DFS 3.1 at ptfset10 (DCE

password key in Windows XP
We are using SAMBA 2.2.4 to support a large community of Windows users. The
latest deployment of PC's come with Windows XP, and we need to disable
Password Encryption on those to use SAMBA. We need help in locating the
"EnablePlainTextPassword" key.
Thanks in advance

Some basic questions about accessing DFS/DCE shares with SAMBA 3.0
Hi Guys-
We are a group involved in a project to move an application from Windows
to AIX, and part of the application involves reading OSF DFS shares, and
making the filesystem available to Windows machines through SAMBA. The
conversion of the application has gone well, but it is our first time
using SAMBA and I have some questions that hopefully are not too dumb,
and if they are, we would gladly

dfs/dce and openssh
I searched google and did not find any hits on this being solved.
I want to get ssh so I can the dsa/rsa style password it in an
environment that uses dfs/dce authentication if that is possible (and
it has not already been solved). In other words, I want to be able
to log into a host as a dfs/dce user without typing my password.
Before I dig into the code and trying to do this, I wanted

DFS enumeration on a Samba hosted DFS tree.
I've translated a Windows based DFS tree to a Samba based (3.0.23c)
one and it seems to work quite well from Windows Explorer and cmd.exe.
First off, I have a relatively big tree.
grep dfscmd /root/dfs.cmd | wc -l
1614
One issue I've noticed that tree enumeration and manipulation from a
Windows machine to a Samba based DFS root just doesn't work at all.
For instance dfscmd.exe

Redundant DFS via DNS entries?
Hi:
I'm trying to create a group of samba/NFS servers.
The NIS/NFS/Automount part has always worked fine. Now I'm trying to
duplicate what automount does w/ DFS.
A single DFS server would be a single point of failure. I need redundant
DFS.
I've configured a pair of samba servers, w/ DFS on each one. Each
machine has a few non-dfs shares referred to by dfs links.
I've

DFS questions...
I have been looking into DFS (no R) with Samba and found the page https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Distributed_File_System_(DFS) and do have some questions:
?There is currently (July 2014) a discussion in the mailing list in which several users report great difficulties with domain-based DFS in samba 4, maybe related with the implementation of smb protocol version 3.? ? is this still true or has

dfs in lme
Dear R-mixed-effects-modelers,
I could not answer this questions with the book by Pinheiro & Bates and did
not find anything appropriate in the archives, either ...
We are preparing a short lecture on degrees of freedom and would like to
show lme's as an example as we often need to work with these. I have a
problem in understanding how many dfs are needed if random terms are used

Question about DFS
1. What is the ordering method of a DFS Share with multiple servers (e.g.
msdfs:serverB\\share,serverC\\share linkb ; Source:
https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/msdfs.html)?
With a Microsoft DFS i have 3 options regarding the target. (Targets in a
client's site are listed first in a referral. Nevertheless i can choose
between: Random order, Lowest cost, Exclude targets

Need to sftp with automatic login from 1 aix machine to another, the id on the target is a DCE(DFS) id
Hi,
I had a question and can not find out on the web where anyone might have
done this. I am sftping
between one AIX machine and another using automatic login. I have created
the id_rsa.pub on the
source server and added it to the /.ssh/authorized_keys file on the target
server. The problem we
are having seems to be that because the target id is a DCE(DFS) id and it's
home directory is

No, there are 2 ways of configuring it, the wiki has the symlink method,
below is the other method.
I don't like broken symlinks on my machines, therefore this is what I
prefer.

DFS + LDAP
Hi!
My situation is that I configured samba with ldap authentication, I created
shares and and after I created standalone dfs for these shares. (Everything
is on the same server) I have a client debian with gnome and ldap
authentication, so I can login on this machine with ldap users. My problem
is, if I try to access dfs share with nautilus with the same user, with
which I logged on the machine,

DFS not working w/ fully.qualified.sub.domain
Hi:
I've got a samba/DFS server configured that works fine under it's
original name, but I'm getting booted out of that DNS domain, into a
subdomain.
All my (WinXP) clients have drives mapped to names like
\\server.domain.com\dfsroot.
If I browse to the path, \\server.domain.com\dfsroot, everything works.
I can access the shares pointed to via the dfs links
But, now the network is

dfs problems addressed in 3.0.25b?
Is the issue below addressed in 3.0.25b? (no freebsd port available yet
so I'm still at 3.0.25a)
I can't see anything specifically about this in the release notes.
I just want to add that I've also seen this behaviour on a windows xp
x64 client.
It's a pretty serious problem.. so I'm also thinking I may have to
revert to an earlier version if it doesn't look like a

XP + SP2 + DFS + netbios alias = not working
Hi all,
I'm using Samba 3.0.6 (on IRIX 6.5).
This is just a 'let you know what I've discovered' message really.
I've just installed upgrade a laptop here to SP2 of Windows XP. It then
started failing to make network connections.
After much fiddling about, I tracked it down to DFS shares. This PC can
now connect to the DFS root OKay, but doesn't recognise the entries

MS DFS
Trying out the new DFS support in samba 2.2 i can't seem to get it to
work.
All the docs mention that a configure parameter is needed to build in
dfs support. Do the binary rpms on the samba site have dfs support
built in?
I notice that if i give a bogus option in the smb.conf file it will
complain about it in log.smb, would it complain about the dfs options if
samba was built without dfs

Help making Samba a DFS host (not root!)
I'm trying to create a DFS root in my 2003 AD domain, and point it to a
share hosted on a Samba server. From the documentation, I had assumed
that this was supported (msdfs host = yes ?). Am I missing something
basic? This is with Samba 3.0.31 on RHEL 5.
When I go to create the DFS root (via the msc plugin) and instruct it to
use my samba machine as the host, I get this error:

Authentication problems using libsmbclient to traverse DFS links
Hi,
I'm trying to create a map of DFS links to actual server/share's.
I know that you can get this information by logging on to the DFS root
server, but I'm trying to use the libsmbclient API to
get this information.
I have created a fairly simple DFS structure on 2003 servers with
everything on the same domain.
//MyDomain/DFSRoot
