Kaspersky Anti-virus unable to join Domain
Just a heads up. I recently built a new (XPSP2) image with the Kaspersky 6.0.3.837 on it. I had issues joining the domain with the AV running. Had to disable. (A domain controller for domain ABC could not be contacted.....) I didn't have AV on my previous image, so I don't know if version 5 did the same. I don't recall seeing this on the list, so I thought I would throw it out....

Document Scanning and Storage
I'd like to start scanning our boxed up documents. I'd say about 30,000 files total. Mostly to eliminate the boxes of paper we have. I'd like to scan them, store them, Have some sort of index, and be able to retrieve them on multiple machines. I think PDF would be the desired format. I'd like be able to set some permissions as well. (not a deal breaker...) I've searched

Desktops for non-roaming profiles
Hi list, In my current organization, we aren't going to be using roaming profiles (for various reasons, it's not desired). I'm moving us from no domain controller to Samba as a PDC (with an OpenLDAP backend), and I'm trying to make the process as invisible as possible to the end users. Each XP user's local desktop exists at: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>

weird Windows profile creation
It seems weird. On 75% of my machines, it creates accounts as: c:\documents and settings\username on 25% of the machines, it creates them as: c:\docments and settings\username.DOMAINNAME These are fresh machines, so it's unclear to me where this behavior stems from. We're not using roaming profiles. Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens? thanks Chris

more smbd CPU mystery
Well I have determined that everytime someone logs in/logs out of a windows box in our lab *ALL* of the files in "My Directory" are copied from/to the file server to the local client. Needless to say this is retarded and needs to stop. The local sys admin needs to perform some windows voodoo to redirect this directory. Still this brings the mystery as to why smbd would take up so much

linux client join DC how?
I have seen mentioned in other posts that when joining a DC with your linux client there is a way to do it and NOT use Powerbroker Open (new name for Likewise-Open). Where do I find this procedure? -- ------------------------- Bob Wooden of Donelson Trophy 615.885.2846 (main) www.donelsontrophy.com [1] "Everyone deserves an award!!" Links: ------ [1]

linux client join DC how?
I did a fresh install of Debian with the desktop. I know from Ubuntu that the network is handled differently in the desktop and the server versions. So, I am assuming it is a similar situation with Debian. I could be wrong but . . . When kerberos installs via the script it (the script) suggests accepting the 'defaults on the next three screens.' The first screen included the correct

Joining xp client to samba nt4 domain problem
Hi, I am trying to join xp clients to an NT4 style domain based on a samba server. The join appears to work and the welcome message pops up. Upon restarting the client, I am not able to log in using domain accounts. When I log in as the local admin, I find that the domain account groups have not been added to the local groups. Once I add the domain accounts manually, everything seems to work
