slow opening of files / make_connection: connection to IPC$ denied due to security descriptor.
Hello all, Some pc's in the network have big troubles opening files that reside on the server. Opening a word or excel file may take over 30 secs. Copying the file to the desktop takes less than a second. However, searching for this problem on google didn't give me any solutions yet. Any idea's what the problem is? Also, in my logs I see a lot of these 'connection to IPC$ denied

how to debug roaming profiles
Hi, I had to install a new Samba server (3.0.23b). Home dir and account were copied. I join a machine to the domain, but the stored profiles do not work. How can I debug that (in which log files)? I checked the usual suspect: permissions; they seem ok to me. Thanks, Marc Delisle

connection to IPC$ denied due to security descriptor
Hey all, I have a fileserver running Debian Etch and Samba 3.0.24 that I use to serve media and private home directories. I have a couple roommates, and therefore have a couple accounts on the box for those users. I had everything working perfectly until last week when my system drive took a crap. I've reinstalled everything exactly the same (I think?) but now I am having problems with

Where to look next?
Thanks for your suggestion! It seems to have gone a little further this time, but isn't accepting the key and is failing back on password-based auth. We're double-checking that the public key was correctly configured with the account, and also trying a DSA key to see if it behaves differently. Is there anything you'd suggest we look at or try at this point, and thank you very much

Cannot mount samba shares
Hi, quick(?) question: Has anybody seen that problem below? More important question: Did anybody solve that? This is my smb.conf (well, only the most important parts): [global] workgroup = FOOBAR server string = My Server map to guest = Bad User preferred master = No local master = No domain master = No dns proxy = No [on3] comment = Audio-Video-Imports path

How to test roaming profiles
Hi, I'm working on a server that was upgraded a few weeks ago (Linux Mandriva was reinstalled with a more up-to-date Samba version which is 3.3.2). Now, roaming profiles no longer work. I even wonder what would be the proper to way to test them. Workstations are running Windows XP. I followed the procedure for Win2000/XP located here:

make_connection: connection to IPC$ denied due to security descriptor after upgrade
Hi All I've been using samba for some time as a PDC in our company. Everything was alright till I upgraded samba from 3.0.22 to 3.0.24 (and to 3.0.26 later). Now I can't log in to domain anymore. In samba logs there's a message: [2007/11/21 10:17:29, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(850) make_connection: connection to IPC$ denied due to security descriptor. I was googling

Where to look next?
Hello, I'm looking for your insight about the log below. We have an SFTP server (IBM Sterling File Gateway) and we're connecting from an OpenSSH SFTP client but something fails during KEX. Complete client-side debug output is below, but I believe the relevant part is: debug1: kex: server->client cipher: aes192-cbc MAC: hmac-sha1 compression: none debug1: kex: client->server

Enabling notification for all users
Hello, I have a domain populated with ~60 users who infrequently receive email. As a result, they rarely check their email, and miss important messages. The users are virtual LDAP users, and each user has an attribute "backupMailAddress" that contains their primary high-traffic email address that they check daily. (i.e. they have an address like John at

Windows User Admin Tool error
I've got a Fedora Core 2 box running Samba smbd version 3.0.7-2.FC2. I've set it up as a Domain master for a new domain. I setup a Win2K Server box and had it join the domain. I made an "administrator" user, I mapped the groups via: net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=admins net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Users" unixgroup=users I

Missing record in share-info.tdb
I may have a clue. I have two servers running Samba 3.2.3, one as a Domain Controller one as a Member Server. Both are running Ubuntu 8.10. smbd, nmbd and winbindd using the tdb back end are running on both. On the Member Server when I access the [Projects] share everything works as expected. When I access the [Windows] share I get prompted for a user name and password but no combination

Error accessing the share_info.tdb file
Hello everyone, I'm preparing a migration from a NT4-mode domain controller 3.5 to version 4.19. The migration process is going well, but from the share management MMC, no matter the share defined in the smb.conf, when I try to access the authorization tab, I get the following message in the Samba logs: Apr 25 11:39:58 svdom01.voillot205 rpcd_classic[1827]: [2024/04/25 11:39:58.511922, 0]

what are *.tdb files?
In /varcache/samba/ I have several .tdb files. Like brlock.tdb, locking.tdb, ntdrivers.tdb, etc. Excusing my ignorance, what are these files, and what do they do? And why must they be copied when migrating from one samba server to a new one?

CTDB and locking issues in 4.4.6 (Classic domain)
Hi list We recently upgraded our fileservers from Centos supplied 4.2.10 to Sernet 4.4.6, and then our DCs from 3.6.x to 4.4.6. It seems that since then we've had problems with locks not being obeyed on all nodes - they only seem to work when a second client opens a file on the same node as the first client. For example, when a user opens an Excel file I will see something like this

"Bad lockout attempt" recorded twice
All, I built and installed 3.0.7. I am trying to finalize my setup by limiting the user to 3 failed logon attempts. I used: ./pdbedit -P "bad lockout attempt" -C 3 This works fine for all users EXCEPT for the user with a matching Windows user name. In other words, if my windows user name is 'bender' and my samba user name is 'bender' the number of Bad logon attempts will

USRMGR.EXE doesn't work anymore.
I've upgraded my system at Samba 3.0.20 (SLES 8) bacause of some errors on winbind and Windows 2003. Now, usrmgr.exe doesn't work anymore. It reports: ?procedure number is out of range - Do you want to administrate another domain?? USRMGR has been working for 3 years; I've made all upgrades on Windows 2000, but the results it's the same. Any Idea? uz.

How Is Administrator Treated?
I have a couple of Samba 2.2 servers, in different locations, configured as NT Domain Controllers, but I'm experiencing some problems with logging on to the domains as Administrator in order to perform some administration tasks, such as configuring antivirus software on workstations. I won't go into the details here; I think the basic problem is my lack of understanding of how the
