Re: samba Digest, Vol 48, Issue 1
Well, maybe it's not the "best" or the "most elegant" solution - I've never tried to tweak this -, but it works: - Insert the following lines on your PDC's smb.conf: winbind enum groups = yes winbind enum users = yes winbind trusted domains only = yes winbind use default domain = yes template homedir = /home/%U

ntlm authentication
Heyho. My apologies if this mail arrives twice. The first time I sent it my email address didn't correspond to the one I signed onto the list with (one was an alias for the other). I'm not sure if the original will eventually make it through or not. I have a NT Domain which is run by my samba server (v3.0.22-r3 on Gentoo Linux). Everything works well, and the backend database is

Server Migration Problem
Gidday I am in the process of finishing a server migration (to a new server), and am having problems with samba on the new server. The old server was running samba 3.0.22-r3 on a Gentoo machine, and the new server is running Samba 3.0.25a on a Solaris 10 machine. I have copied the files across OK, I have copied the samba configuration OK, samba runs fine, connects to the ldap backend

WINS server DMB and LMBs not communicating across subnet to update browse lists?
Referencing: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/network_administration_guides/samba_reference_guide/17_NetworkBrowsing_34.html I've got two subnets (192.168.2.1 and 192.168.1.1). All the machines on both subnets are running XP Home or Pro and are all part of the same workgroup (WORKGROUP). I've added an OpenSUSE box on x.x.2.1 and have set it as the WINS server with a very simple

Best practice settings for channel bonding interface mode?
Hi, may be there are some best practice suggestions for the "best mode" for channel bonding interface? Or in other words, when should/would I use which mode? E.g. I do have some fileservers connected to the users lan and to some ISCSI Storages. Or some Webservers only connected to the LAN. The switches are all new cisco models. I've read sone docs (1), (2) and (3) so the theory

Can''t write to "Windows PowerShell" source with win32-eventlog
Hi all, Tim Uckun reported, and I''ve confirmed, that you can''t write to the Windows PowerShell event source for some reason. Tim thought it might be because of the space in the name, but my attempt to quote it did not seem to help. In order to follow along, install PowerShell, create the foo.dll using the foo.mc file in the ''test'' directory, and try the

btrfsck: doesn't correct errors
Heyho! (This is using btrfs from Debian''s 2.6.32 2.6.32-3-kirkwood kernel (-9 package; btrfs tools is v0.19-16-g075587c) A few observations about btrfsck: a btrfsck run on a 2T volume (4 disks) on a QNAP appliance (512M ram) got killed by Mr. OOM Killer. Initially, I was quite surprised. I''m only moderately surprised now since it might well be that I forgot to enable

JIT crashing when compiling source code with Clang and -mretpoline flag
Heyho both Mailinglists, I'm not sure if I encountered a bug or if I'm doing something wrong. I compiled a "Hello World"-function with Clang to LLVM-IR code, while passing the "-mretpoline" flag. I tried jitting and calling that function with the KaleidoscopeJIT code, but when calling "lookup" for that function the application crashed. I also tried that file

unix registry command
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. exactly the same rules apply to the use of rpcclient registry commands as to regedit.exe and regedt32.exe, except more so. obtain from: http://samba.anu.edu.au/cvs.html syntax: rpcclient -S nt_hostname -U username[%passwd] -W domain -l logfile rpcclient now has some _preliminary_ commands which work with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and will in the near future work with HKEY_USERS

Does Samba/Winbind not follow nested groups in AD?!?
Here's the situation: We have users who are members of groups and those groups are sometimes members of a 2nd level of groups. If a folder has permissions assigned to a 2nd level group, then the user can not access the share. Doing a "getent group | grep user | grep 2nd_level_group" also returns nothing. Samba seems to not be recognizing that a user is a member of a group under

Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks, I've followed a set of instructions I found on http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting. I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I followed the

Is there a way to use the rescue_action defined in a controller in the controller''s specs?
Heyho, I start to discover RSpec but it seems that just on my second day I ran into some strange trouble with the rescue_action of my controllers. Just like in Rails 2.0 where there is a rescue_from Exception, :with => :foo_method thing to rescue exception thrown in actions in the production environment, I did a little helper that rescues my action exceptions with a defined class. Moving to ORCv2 - Where are my global constructors and destructors?
Heyho, Recently I tried out the ORCv2 JIT, especially the LLJIT. I gotta say, that I really like the new interface and the way you use it! However there is one thing I'm missing. I wrote a small bit code file, which should force having a global constructor. int wuff(); __declspec(noinline) int miau() { printf("Huhuhu"); return wuff(); } const int x = miau(); When I

Accessing Samba Shares from Windows
Hello, We are using machines with Solaris and Windows XP. The XP machines are joined in a domain(windows 2003) and the Solaris machines are not joined to any domain. With Samba 2.2.8a running on Solaris 9 there are no problems to access them form Windows XP. We are authenticated by DC. On other machines we have Solaris 10 with Samba 3.0.21b and here we are NOT authenticated anymore by DC. So we
