Cannot connect to Samba-3.0.23d (and earlier) from other trusted AD domains
Hi there We have a bunch of Samba 3.0.10+ CentOS4.4 servers that are working 100% fine when connected to from users who are members of the same ADS domain our Samba servers are members of. However, users from other ADS domains (we are all W2K3-based) on our network cannot connect - they get NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED. The shares they are trying to connect to have no share-level permission checks -

FreeBSD, Samba 3.0.28a joined to AD domain but prompts for login
Hi, I am trying to connect a FreeBSD server running 7.0 Release and Samba 3.0.28a to a Windows 2003 AD Domain Controller. Has anyone had success with this combo? I have joined the domain and I can enumerate users, groups, etc.. humpty# getent passwd|wc -l 105 humpty# wbinfo -u|wc -l 165 humpty# wbinfo -g|wc -l 59 humpty# wbinfo -t checking the trust secret via RPC calls

performance lower then expected
I've setup an eight node server stripe using gluster 1.4.0pre5 using the stripe example from the wiki. Each of these eight nodes has a 100Mbit ethernet card and a single hard disk. I've connected them all together using a gigabit switch and I have a gigabit workstation connected, with gluster mounted and running fine. However, when i try to do a dd test to the disk "dd if=/dev/zero

Can Asterisk "proxy" a SIP phone to make it look like a Cisco skinny softphone?
Hi there We have a Cisco VOIP environment here, with hard and softphones. I have a softphone account/etc, but I'm a Linux user and (as far as I'm aware) there is no Cisco softphone for Linux. However I can run Asterisk. So I was wondering if there is a way to "convert" a SIP phone transaction into a SKINNY transaction so that the Cisco environment thinks it is a Cisco

Win2K3 DNS losing Samba DNS entries?
Hi there We are having a problem where the DNS "A" records of ADS member Samba servers are disappearing from DNS. It's not routine, but it is definitely real. What we normally do is assign static IPs, create DNS records manually and then install and configure the Samba server (mainly CentOS4 and CentOS5) and "net ads join" it to the domain. This is normally good for a

How do you properly use "--partial"?
[background: we rsync Gbs of data over our WAN, so want to run rsync as efficiently as possible. We have Linux "rsync servers" that mount local Windows file servers - i.e we use Linux-rsync to replicate data between Windows file servers. (why? we found Linux IP stack to be superior over our WAN)] I know that "--partial" on it's own merely makes the rsync server process

rsync as a deliberately slow copy?
I'm looking for a way to deliberately copy a large directory tree of files somewhat slowly, rather than as fast as the hardware will allow. The intent is to avoid killing the hardware, especially as I copy multi-gigabyte disk image files. If I copy over the network, say via ssh, I can use --bwlimit. But I'm asking myself if I can specify --no-whole-file and perhaps some other options to

Samba & Vista
Hi, I am using samba in ads mode with a Windows SBS 2003 domain controller. samba: 3.0.24-6 server os: Debian Etch. client os: Vista Business SP1 The system has been running effectively for more than 4 years with Windows XP machines. I now have a Vista laptop that I am using on the system and have hit an odd problem. Whilst shares that don't specify valid users still map with

Win32 and Backing up open files
I now fully and completely remember why I hate Windows. I have struggled with the backup semantics options in order to get rsync able to back up open files, and I got something that appeared like it should work, but it didn't work. So I finally broke down and wrote a holdopen.exe and a tryopen.exe to test my theory, and no matter what privleges were enabled (backup and restore were enabled),

PST Rsync Issues
Hi All, I have a 1.8GB PST file that is backed up every night from a cygwin install) and every night rsync transfers about 1.8GB of data for that file. It changes a bit, but for all intents and purposes the entire file is transferred. There are other files on this system that rsync more typically, so I'm fairly certain this isn't a switch or command error on the calling end. I have also

"text file busy" on cifs-mounted dir *doesn't* cause rsync error!
Hi there I am running rsync-2.6.9rc2 and am having difficulty getting rsync to report an error when I think it should I mounted (via "mount -t cifs") a remote Win2K3 server and on a XP client opened a Word document. Then from Linux (FC5) I attempted a bash$ cp /tmp/other.txt file.doc cp: cannot create regular file `file.doc': Text file busy That makes sense - CIFS has the file

Replace local linux OS with rsynced linux OS?
Hi everyone, again. My question today is, how can i replace my development boxs' local OS with a resynced version of the production OS (which currently has it's home on the dev box)? Say, for example (this is really how things are), I have production server and a development box, and i'd like work on the development box as if it was the production box. (And make changes to the

rsync and encryption
Hi, I have a small server at home. I like to put it 'online' and secure it as good as possible. The counterside of putting your personal backups on a server is that it might get hacked... and you don't want have to have your personal docs online... Do you think encryption is needed? How to use encryption with rsync? Thanks in advance, ~D

sync prob with big files
Hi list. We have 2 NAS-Devices, each mounted on the same (virtual) box. For our backup we use bacula. Bacula ist writing its files to the first NAS (192.168.1.9). These are big files, up to 160 GB. For implementing a good backup strategy we decided to mirror (sync) another NAS-Device (192.168.1.8) to have redundant bacula backups. If sync is done the Device will be kept at another location too.

Trouble getting samba AD integration to work
Greetings, I have followed the steps to get Samba setup as a member of AD. Following the instructions I was able to get the samba server added to the AD. When I run wbinfo -g for example, I see all of the groups on the AD. If I do something like kinit with my AD login, I enter my password and it works. I enter a bad AD password and it fails. So I think alot of this is setup. My problem is I

How to create a write-only share?
Hi! I need to create a share that will be readoble by root only (by owner) and writeable for all. We replacing a dead Windows NT 4.0 server and there was a permission type called "Add" and our users uses this type of permission often. They creates a shares where other users can add files but can not read or even list it. I saw a thread here called "How to make "Add

Strange behaviour of Samba3 with wireless clients
I have built my own wireless AP with Ubuntu 7.10 and an Atheros-based wireless card. My problem is that I can't access any of the Samba shares with my wireless clients...they can all search for the server, get prompted for a login then it just hangs and eventually times out. The same clients, when using their LAN ports to connect to the same server, are able to do everything--browse and

request: add TCP buffer options to rsync CLI?
Dear rsync folks, I'd like to request/suggest that cli options to set TCP send/receive buffers be added to rsync client-side. Summary: I'm aware that a daemon's config-file can set socket options for the server side (e.g. SO_SNDBUF, SO_RCVBUF). That is useful. But when trying to get high-throughput rsync over long paths (i.e. large bandwidth*delay product), since

rsync not updating files even with checksum flag
Hello everyone, I am having a problem with rsync that I hope someone can help me figure out. We are using rsync to sync up files between our staging and production ftp servers. Basically internal users are allowed to upload files via a samba share to a staging server. Those files are then synced out every 15 minutes via cron to our production ftp servers. The problem occurs when a large
