Auto Create user home directory
now that all permissions are right - if i create a new user on the win 2003
active directory and specify a home user under profile i will get " the home
folder could not be created because: the network name cannot be found" I
know for sure I am getting that error because the user home folder doesn't
exist yet on the samba machine - is there any way to get the user home

Kerberos and PAM
I am new to samba. I followed the docs on samba.com to configure samba as
"domain member", security = domain, and to user winbind to authenticate
users against windows 2003 AD. well, my question is the steps mentioned the
use of PAM to do the authentications against the AD but it doesn't work - do
I also need to configure kerberos for this type of installation?

sharing users home dirs for Win2003 and linux
I've setup a linux box with winbind as a member in Win2003 AD and
everything works fine.
I want to share the Win2003 users home dirs with the linux box, i.e.
when a user logs into the linux box, after he's authenticated through
winbind, he should have his home dir from the Windows box, how can I do
that??
Obviously I have to use CIFS to mount the dirs, but how do I maintain
file and dirs

Group membership updates
Hi, list.
I'm running samba-3.5.4 + winbind on a RHEL 5 server. I'm trying to
allow ssh logins to users in a particular Active Directory group in the
TESTDOMAIN domain.
My problem is that group membership seems to be updated when the user
logs in. So, if a remove a user from the allowed group, the first login
attempt is successful.
This is my samba/winbind configuration:

This was when they accessed their own homes share. I found that when the
user accessed other shares everything was fine. So this morning I finally
realized that it had to be my home shares stanza. It *seems* that valid
users = %S is not enough that it has to be

Samba Windows Performance difference browsing dir
Hi,
Iam using Samba samba-3.0.21c.
I have an share with 2500 files, each file 500 Mbyte on an Win2003 SP1 Server.
Access from another Win2003 Server tells me 2500 Calls for Trans2 and
QueryPathInfo if I browse the dir.
Access from Linux to the Win Share gives me 4900 calls. Performance is OK
because of 100 MBit Lan.
If I access from Linux through an VPN-tunnel I have much larger response

I have a windows 2003 AD domain and a server joined to that domain.
Winbind is being used as an idmap. Most everything seems to work fine.
Winbind gets user info correctly:

Problems using multiple Samba servers in a Win2003 AD domain
I've been at this for days, and making no headway. It's very
discouraging. I have a Win2003 domain, that has the Services for Unix
extensions installed. I am trying to have multiple Samba servers as
domain members. (in my case, one desktop sharing files, and one laptop,
accessing the shares). And at the moment, it doesn't (fully) work.
Each Samba server can see shares from the other.

SMBD not authenticating against Active Directory
Hi,
Iam trying to setup Samba version 3.2.3 on Redhat (RHEL5) server to use
Active Directory for authentication. I followed the instructions from
article in following website:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/magazine/dd228986.aspx
Setup Winbind + Samba + Kerberos and it seems to work fine. I can see the
users in Active Directory through winbind as well as authenticate users

Mapping subfolder of a samba share in Windows fails with access denied
Hi,
I am trying to map a network drive on a Windows 7 client. It is possible
to map the shared folder, but as soon as I try to map a subfolder,
Windows shows an access denied message and prompts for another username
and password. The user has full control over the subfolder (configured
via the Windows security tab). The samba.log shows:

Join multiple CTDB managed Samba servers into Active Directory
Hi ,
I have set up a 2-node CTDB cluster serving NFS and CIFS authenticating
Windows and Linux users via Active Directory.
The setup works fine, except only one server in the CTDB-cluster is able to
join the AD domain at a given instance. If you manually add the other server
into AD, the already connected server gets disconnected. There is no
specific error message logged in /var/log/message or
