CIFS, Samba 3.0.23d and file locking
Mrs.;
I have a 16-bits Cobol program running at Novell 5.1.
I'm migrating the whole network (around 150 terminais) to Linux + LTS
processing DOSEMU into cluster and making a storage server just for data.
My surprise last week was that the smbfs client for Linux doesn't support
the file locking, after googling, found that a solution would be to use
CIFS instead SMB and upgrading the

rawlog change suggestion
I find the separate .in and .out files rather difficult to work with. I
think it would be more useful if the in/out traffic were interleaved with
a prefix to indicate direction, and suffix to indicate continuation, as
recordio (http://cr.yp.to/ucspi-tcp/recordio.html) does:
<a0002 LIST "" ""

Import samba3 passwords to samba4
Hello,
we want to import Samba3 (tdb) passwords to a new Samba4 domain (no classicupgrade).
Is it possible to export the password(-hashes) from samba3 and import them in samba4, maybe with ldbmodify?
Thanks

Linux disk quota support
Dear Listmembers,
I installed samba-3.0.28 and configured --with-quotas, but I don't seem
to be getting quota support. Is there a description on how to do quotas
with samba? Is there something I should know about besides the
configuration
option --with-quotas?
Thank you,
Emre Brookes

sssd with ad backend and "ldap_id_mapping = false" refuse to start
Hello,
we are using sssd version 1.12 on openSUSE 13.1 with Sernet-Samba
Packages 4.1.11. Samba runs as a single AD DC
We have removed the complete openSUSE samba stuff before testing. sssd
runs on the same machine as samba.
Our sssd config:

too many open files
Hello list,
I have a problem with a samba 4.1.2 (Sernet Package) on SLES 11 SP3.
Every few days samba (which works as a single ad controller) says
"NT_STATUS_TOO_MANY_OPENED_FILES" and stopps working. To fix this
Problem our customer reboots the machine.
The logfile says:

DNS Update Error
Hello List,
in the following environment SUSE Linux Enterprise 11SP3 with bind
9.9.4P2 and the Sernet samba packages in version 4.1.7. samba works as
AD PDC. Every few days our bind dns server denies updates. It looks like
a problem with kerberos and the bind_dlz driver:

time sync for windows workstations
Hi all,
On our DC's we use ntp to keep time synced. I've googled a bit on AD and
time sync on workstations, and it seems they are supposed to sync their
time with the time on the DC.
I see however that in our network, this is not occuring: there is a
minute time difference between the dc's and my workstation.
Is this something that samba has not yet implemented, or is there

Heimdal Kerberos in Samba4
Hi List,
I do my best to ask my question in english. ;-)
Samba4 integrated heimdal kerberos to do the kerberos work for Active
Directory. Some Linux Distributions like fedora/RedHat and openSUSE/SUSE
don't accept heimdal even if it is shipped inside samba.
Their argument is that heimdal isn't maintained since 2012. Compiling
samba against MIT krb5 results in Samba-Packages without

Strange ID-Mapping behavior
Hey,
id mapping is accessible from net command:
net cache list
you can also clean that cache:
net cache flush
After flushing the cache your users and groups having uidNumber and/or
gidNumber should work as expected (ie using their AD declared uid/gid).
Cheers,
mathias

Strange ID-Mapping behavior
Hi list,
on one of our servers I found a strange id-mapping behavior. The server
acts as an AD-DC and fileserver. We user the sernet-samba packages in
version 4.2.9 on openSUSE leap 42.1.
We use the rfc3207 extension for Posix attributes. Every group has a
full set of posix-attributes. Our gidNumbers are calculated by RID plus
20000.
If i ask for id-mappings, "wbinfo" shows for

recursive root finding
Dear list,
I've had this problem for a while and I'm looking for a more general
and robust technique than I've been able to imagine myself. I need to
find N (typically N= 3 to 5) zeros in a function that is not a
polynomial in a specified interval.
The code below illustrates this, by creating a noisy curve with three
peaks of different position, magnitude, width and

Fwd: Traffic Shaping on a Transparent Bridge not working!
I''m trying to shape traffic on a Devil-Linux box.
This note was originally sent to their maillist,
because the LARTC list appears to have been down
for the past few days. My mailbox was just flooded
with a half dozen or so confirmation requests in response
to my repeated attempts to subscribe to this list.
