joining domain fails because of no samba entries with 3.0.23c
Hello All,
I am having a very strange problem with samba 3.0.23c. I upgraded
everything from 3.0.9 and I am able to smbclient to the samba 3.0.23c
PDC with the administrator user just fine. When I go to add a machine
to the domain, it adds the unix machine account to the ou=computers like
it is supposed to but none of the samba entries are added. I get an

Problems joining machine to domain
Our Samba server was recently the recipient of a major upgrade. I thought
all the kinks were worked out, but apparently not.
I think this is the first time I've tried to join a machine account to the
domain since the upgrade. I've tried using smbldap-tools and also just
using smbpasswd (I have my users in LDAP). I'll also say that 'net join'
works just fine from my Samba

SOLVED Re: ldap and computer accounts
The solution is quite simple: You need to configure pam-nss for
samba to work. Essentially samba is using a 'getent' call to look
up computers independent is configured as passdb backend. That
means the pam-nss must be configured for samba to find the
computer entries in ldap.
I find this very much counter-intuitive !

profil
Greetings list,
I am about setting up a domain controller in a little company, so I choose
samba (debian lenny) and I did it against openldap. Everything seems to be
ok in the server but when I try to log in (windows client) I have a bizarre
output: it said that my profile will not be saved. And after that when I try
to connect to virtual machine running in the same computer, it doesn't work:

ldap and computer accounts
I'm attemtping to configure a Ubuntu server for a bunch of windows clients.
I'd like the authentication information to be in ldap.So far the stuff
works,
I can authenticate users in LDAP just fine.
But when I want a windows machine to join the domain I get the
error 'The user name could not be found'. The computer account
gets created (via smbldap-tools) and I can see it in the

PLEASE HELP! Can't add machines to domain!
I have spent days now trying to debug why I can not add machines to the
domain. I am using samba 3.0.23c with an openldap backend. I can
authenticate fine using smbclient with the administrator account but
when I go to add a machine it fails. I have checked the debug logs and
know what is happening, I am just not sure why or how to fix it. I am
using the idealx scripts to add machines.

Creating a machine account manually (EMC, Samba PDC)
Greetings,
I am trying to join a EMC Celerra NS502 CIFS server to our Samba
3.0.21a domain controller. According to EMC, I was told that we need to
manually create the machine account first. How is the best way to do this?
We are using an openLDAP backend, using the idealx scripts. Joining a
windows machine from the computer properties dialog of that machine works
perfectly.

Joining a domain with a non-administrator account
I'm trying to set it up so I can join the domain with a regular user
that is part of the domain admin group. I have a user dsonenberg that
is in the domain admin group(512), but I can't join the domain with that
account. For the record I can login with that account and Administrator
can join the domain. The PDC has an LDAP backend. Here's the log.
