Samba seem to work fine but "cannot find my workgroup"
Hi, I setup a new samba file server (in a priviledged Proxmox container using the Debian 12 template) and apparently it works fine. In log I see every 10 seconds: write_browse_list: Fatal error - cannot find my workgroup DMYDOM Google found one hint telling it should set "network = ip", but man page does not explain such an option. Another hint suggests it could be related to an

Still cannot manage folders through Samba4 with SELinux samba_export_all_rw enabled
Hello, I have Samba 4 installed with some correctly configured shares so I can access them from my Windows box. It is a proven setup from an older Fedora+Samba setup, though on that other machine I have SELinux disabled. So I set samba_export_all_rw=1 to be able to access the shares whose files and directories are labelled public_content_rw_t by issuing: semanage fcontext -a -t

setting up a new ADS infrastructure
I try to set up a small ADS infrastructure: 1 samba ADS-controller, 1 samba file server, 2 Linux and 6 Windows clients. Starting with controller and file server, quite a lot of things work, but not everything. Here it starts getting complicate: looking for manuals, googling for error messages leads to lots of different advices for different versions... not easy. There are open questions, but I am

Samba BDC in the same subnet not getting connection requests
Hi, I have a Samba 3 PDC running with around 20 Windows XP/2K clients. The PDC and the clients are in different subnets. I recently decided to add a Samba 3 BDC in the same subnet as the clients, to give some failover and also to reduce across-switch traffic. After creating the BDC, I restarted one of the clients but don't see it establishing connection with the BDC, instead it connects as

Unable to join domain : Migrating from Ubuntu to CentOS (WinXP Client)
Hi, I am migrating a ubuntu server to a centos one. The ubuntu server is working and new server even tough it's running I can't join the domain from a new machine. The new server is not on production so the client (win xp) is connected via a crossover cable. The error message on the client is something like user/password invalid (I am using the root user/password of the server). The

nmbd Problem
Hello, I am using samba 2.0.4b on Linux 2.0.36. Since I changed some of the parameters in my smb.conf I have a very strange Problem. Everytime my Samba-Box wins the browselist election process two nmbds are started and my WinXX-Clients do not get access to samba (I could see the server but not access the shares nor login to the domain). smbclient -L server from server works fine. Sluggish server response
A user who had not been using the server for about half an hour had to wait for over a minute before the samba server would respond. This is using samba3-server-3.0.2a-2mdk. I hope to upgrade to 3.0.4 as soon as Buchan has the RPM ready. In the below log, the user tried to log in at about 10:27 or so. I think I'm not learning anything from this log, so I've also attached part of

AIX 4.32 install (PLEASE HELP)
I've been having problems installing Samba on AIX 4.32. I have spent well over two weeks on the issue and have not had any major success. I can get samba 1.9 series of source code and binaries to work fine but the new Samba 2.0 series code is causing me problems. I have the following system and problem. I have a H50 with 2 NICs; one is ether and the other is token. I can't seem to browse

NT domain login no longer works after distro upgrade (samba 4.2.12 -> 4.3.11, 4.4.5)
Workstation  is member of NT domain, DC is samba 3.6.12. Was running Fedora 22 (samba 4.2.12), domain logins were working fine. Upgraded to Fedora 23 (samba 4.3.11) and domain logins no longer work: "Domain Controller unreachable, using cached credentials instead." Can connect to shares on the DC (e.g., with smbclient) without problem. Upgraded to samba 4.4.5 (from Fedora 24), issue

nmbd died: smb_panic2(1385)
After running several days in the same configuration, my 3.0.6 nmbd crashed with the above error (see log below). I am so frustrated - Samba ports not opening and no error message
Okay - I've been plugging away and it got to the point that running smbclient was returning information about an Alfresco install that I never used, so I went ahead and deleted everything I could find on my machine that said "alfresco". I then removed samba using apt-get from the machine by typing apt-get remove --purge samba I deleted the /etc/samba directory and re-installed

WINS problems
Hello, Is it possible to add some static entries to the WINS database? We would like to add a few (logon-)server entries to it, when wins starts up. Why? We have several Samba servers who act as logon server on different subnets for different domains. Each logon server also acts as a local WINS server. It doesn't seem possible, not even with the options 'remote announce' or
