Using users from another samba server
Hello, I currently have a samba server set up as my network PDC (using LDAP as passdb), and I'm trying to set up another linux file server on the network. This file server should allow users to log in based on their passwords on the PDC, however it doesn't need (nor would be appropriate) to be a BDC. How can I set it up to read the remote LDAP? I have already installed libnss-ldap,

smbldap- only user root can login to windows.
After getting samba, ldap and smbtools setup and joining machines to the domain successfully, the only user that can login to the win2k boxes is the user root created initially by the smbldap scripts. Any other user comes up with a bad username and password message in windows. Any of the users I've tried to login to the windows box can login to other linux machines, can connect using

Problems with smbldap-tools, passdb backend, smb.conf
Hello, my passdb backend in the smb.conf m does make troubles. The entry is: passdb backend=ldapsam:ldap://127.0.0.1. I seems to be right? My system is: Suse 9.2 with openldap 2.2.25-5.2 and samba 3.0.7-5.1 Suse 9.2 clients and Win xp Clients. If I take the passdb backend entry out of the smb.conf, loggons of the xp clients are working for me. If the entry is inside, loggons failed. The Suse

smbldap-useradd says "Error: modifications require authentication at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/smbldap_tools.pm line 1056."
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.23d set up to run as a PDC on SuSE 10.2. I'm getting *very* close, but I have one small issue. I can't add users. When I run: smbldap-useradd -a <a new user> -m I get the following in the messages file: Mar 6 13:59:38 macallan slapd[4731]: conn=50 fd=24 ACCEPT from IP=127.0.0.1:11246 (IP=0.0.0.0:389) Mar 6 13:59:38 macallan slapd[4731]: conn=50

Needs to run smbldap-useradd as non-root user
Hello, The abstract is : How to run smbldap-useradd (and others) with a non-root user, knowing that giving Samba privileges to the user's account is enough. Now are details : My setup is FreeBSD-8, samba35, nss_ldap, smbldap-tools... And NO pam_ldap. I am creating a webservice which must run smbldap-tools scripts. Everything is running on a FreeBSD-8, and running fine by root. However, my

impossible to join domain - smbldap-useradd -w "%u" is buggy
Hello all! I have spent a lot of time chasing down what I think is a bug in smbldap-tools. It seems like many other people have experienced the same problem too. It was pretty hard to triage so I'm writing it down here. The symptom of the problem is that Windows machines cannot join your Samba+LDAP PDC. When you try to change the domain Windows pops up a dialog box saying "no such

LDAP issue, access denied adding machine to domain, and LDAP user can't make unix-login on the box.
Hi, I have a LDAP backend for my Samba 3.0.2, and everything seems to work except adding XP machines to the domain, and unix logins with a ldap client. Since this mail is very long, I have created a small index, so you don't get exhaustet in the middle of all the logs... ;) 1. LDAP user-creation 2. Group info 3. pam/nss info 4. smb.conf [global] 5. Hi there! To set up a samba PDC with openLDAP on my openSUSE 10.1 x86_64 I followed this howto: http://en.opensuse.org/Howto_setup_SUSE_10.1_as_Samba_PDC Every service seems to be running now but now I'm stuck. I was able to join a clean Windows XP Pro test machine to my Domain and I'm able to log on as normal LDAP user. The home-share is mounted and even a login script (actually just

With UserManagerForDomains is see following: Users: All the users Groups: none, just description of Replicators Group and the
