File Permissions
I have been noticing an issue with file permissions and curious as to your thoughts on this. In the one directory the files started as... ...a 777 file was users[100] and root...now they are gc[1002] and fred_smith [1005], but the permissions changed to 764. I have a mask as 775, but this does not seem to be the case??? Here is my smb.conf...curious as to what I may have wrong on this???

member server 3.0.23c drives me nuts
Hello everybody First of all thanks to the developer team in providing the samba suite. I have been running samba servers for serveral years now but 3.0.23c just drives me nuts. I have a PDC and BDC running samba 3.0.23c with openldap as backend and also a samba member server trying to run 2.0.23c. The member server is the primary file server so I can't play with it all that much. The

smbd hanging at BDC
Hi all I have a samba pdc(master LDAP Server) with 1 BDC(slave ldap server), the version of Samba at PDC and BDC is samba 3.0.21c. At BDC , there are some shares declared. The shares are used to store Fox pro files. The client uses foxpro and opens DBF file in the share declared. and also Roaming profiles is also used at BDC. The problem is samba hangs frequently. Once rebooted works for some

Locking problem
Hi all! I am using Debian Sarge with Samba version 3.0.14a-Debian and experience a locking problem: the program is a linux port of a Clipper program compiled with xHarbour (www.xharbour.org). It uses byte-range-locking to lock a record of a dbf database. If I mount the server directory over an smbmount and start 2 clients on the server accessing the server directory over the smbmount, the

smbd process eating memory
Hi list, I have a Samba-3.0.25a PDC running on FreeBSD 6.2-STABLE using OpenLDAP 2.3.34 (nss_ldap-1.255) as backend. Everything work's great, the only problem that I fighting is with an M$ ISA Server 2000, that do ntlm authentications on my domain. At some times (each 4 hours) the ISA Server lost the connection with the domain and does not authenticate users until the connection be

Row to Column help
Dear R Community, I am attempting to transpose a dataset from rows to columns but am stuck. I have tried using reshape() with little luck, possibly due to the categorical nature of the data. For example: id<-c(1,2,2,3,3,3) author<-c("j","k","k","l","l","l")

from smbstatus man page: -B|--byterange causes smbstatus to include byte range locks. the fact is that 4 different connections are opening the same byte range in 'MOVCTA.cdx' That's about all that I can get from your command result dump. recent stability problems with fxp driver
I've spent the past four days or so updating machines here to 4.8/9-stable via cvsup, and have done a complete make buildworld/kernel on each machine (some SMP, some single processor). It seems something is broken with the latest fxp driver, on each machine (different mobos and hardware configs) heavy network traffic with fxp NICs causes timeouts and random kernel panics. Are the shares set to oplocks = no ? That sometimes has a role in database corruption. Thanks for the tip. Is veto oplocks different to oplocks = no? Just now I run into an error, but this time I have this log: ../lib/util/util.c:401(fcntl_lock) fcntl_lock: fcntl lock gave errno 11 (resource temporally unavailable) fcntl_lock: lock failed at offset 2147483646 count 1 op 37 type 1 (resource temporally unavailable) Does this give you any clue of how the problem can be solved? fxp multicast forwarding problems
Hi, Whilst doing some QA work on XORP on my desktop, which has fxp0 and msk0, fxp0 got totally hosed. I was running PIM-SM and IGMPv2 router-mode on the box at the time. I wonder if this is related to the problems with fxp multicast transmission I saw back in April. I'm a bit concerned about this as fxp is still a very widespread and useful network chip. I am running

Index Corruption xBase database
Hello, I've been working with a xBase database (similar to dBase) in a multiuser application. There are like 40 users working on the database on the same time reading and like 10 writing information. Sometimes the CDX files (Index Files) get corrupted and is it's necessary to pack the tables (rebuild the indexes). I have notice using the smbstatus -B command the following Pid

help, oplocks problem still?
Hello all, I have a foxpro application that someone else wrote that I am trying to support to XP clients. I have done what I can to disable oplocks on my end and they are all service pack 2 XP Professional workstations. in my [global] section I have the following: # http://www.drouillard.ca/Tips&Tricks/Samba/Oplocks.htm lock spin time = 15 lock spin count = 30 kernel oplocks =
