Users changing samba passwords directly from windowsclient
Hi!
Why don't you check up the neat utility changepassword from
http://sourceforge.net. It works just wonderfully for me and also is an Open
Source package which can be modified for your needs.
Users at my place didn't even know they were taking their files from a
Linux system until I changed to name to Linuxserver... ;-)
If any help is required on this or installation you can

Troubleshooting inplace editor
I can''t get the inplace editor to do anything for me. The output appears as
regular formated, unclickable text. Maybe I am missing something simple.
1. I just downloaded script.aculo.us <http://script.aculo.us> 1.5_rc3 and
copied it to my javascript folder.
2. To set up a simple test, I created a new test page containing only the
copied from demo1 from the script.aculo.us

Installing R on Mac OS X Leopard
Hi there,
I've used R before, but I just got a new computer with Leopard and I'm
having trouble installing. I download the installer, but when I reach the
end of the install process, the "install" button remains gray and
unclickable. I've tried both standard and custom, as well as installing on
my flash disk, to no avail.
Any suggestions? I'd rather not build from

Changing expired Samba AD password during Windows login
Thanks for the help, however I don't think your suggestion applies in my
case. On a fresh install of Samba 4.7.4 AD you cannot change a user
password on a logged in PC through cntl-alt-del -> ChangePassword
because the default MinAge is 1 days. I had to use the "samba-tool
domain passwordsettings set --min-pwd-age=0" command to make the
logged-on style of password change

Workstaion trust account
Hi everybody!
I'm having a problem adding a W2K workstaion to the domain samba+ldap. I can
add it by logging with the local administartor then add to domain, but I
would like to do it without doing it manually on every workstation. Have
hundrads of workstations, I tried to add them by using smbldap scripts and I
get an entry for the workstation but it still don't work. Is it even

/etc/samba/smbpasswd keeps changing - pulling my hair out
This is really bizarre.
Running Samba 3.0.4 on SuSE 9.1. The password backend is smbpasswd.
Each user has a system and samba account and everything has worked as
expected until recently. But now, every new user I create is unable to log
into Samba server (older users are still able to log in).
Inspecting log.smbd the following messages are displayed:

New experimental XEXEC plugin status
No to long ago I proposed an experimental extension to the IMAP protocol
to allow IMAP to execute extername server side code and talk to email
plugins to create custom client/server applications over an existing
authenticated IMAP connection. I am happy to say they we have working
code. It's not quite ready to download yet but we do have some life
happening. I have started to document it

Migrate to Debian Etch - nogo
Hi Everyone,
I have a small project going on. I'm about to migrate Redhat 7.3 to
Debian Etch (smbd version 3.0.23d-2+b1).
I've already managed to migrate Redhat 7.3 to Debian Sarge (smbd version
3.0.14a-) without any bigger problems.
However, when I migrate to Etch I face a small problem. The last thing I
want to do before I start samba is to grant my linux/samba admin,

PDC, allow only domain logons to use services
Hi,
I am running a nice Samba PDC that caters to a dozen or so Windows
XP-SP2 clients. Point is, those clients should login to the domain, then
access the shares. But they don't, some of the users are stubborn,
refuse to login and just access the shares via direct IP.
What I want is such a setup that only those users that are actually
logged in to the PDC via domain logon can access the

Cannot create writeable share - tried many different things
Hi,
I appreciate any help that can be given. For the life of me, I cannot
create a writeable share on a specific box - a fairly new install of
Fedora Core 5. I have posted on several forums over the past 2 weeks,
but haven't gotten anywhere with the advice given, so I'm turning to
this list as my last hope.
This box runs as an NIS client, but I have had no problems with NIS.

Samba on Backup Server + Auth Q
Guys,
Quick Question with Long Background :-)
File server (FS1)
Backup of File Server (FS2)
Previously, the arrangement is I rsync copies of the files from FS1 to
FS2 every-night and this box FS2 is only accessible via SSH and nothing
else.
So, in the event of file curruption, they will have to contact me with
details and I will try to fish out the files.
Now, to make this easier, I've

RH9 to RH Enterprise: PDC migration from one operating system to another
I had to migrate to RedHat Enterprise Linux ES 3.0. Actually I had to
do is a complete OS install, NOT an upgrade.
What this means is that I had to reinstall Samba and configure it.
I'm using Samba 3.0.4-6.3E (a Redhat rpm) with smbpasswd as password backend.
My pourpose was to be seamless to the end users. Without changes at PC users. I will be using the same
physical server, but in

panel as child of grid on Windows
I am attempting to add controls inside a Wx::Grid. I added a Wx::Panel as a
child of the grid, then added a control to that panel. In the actual code,
the child panel would be sized and located inside a single grid cell, but I
simplified the example code.
On linux with GTK, this code performs as expected--you get a green panel
with a clickable button in it. On windows XP, however, the grid and

samba+ldap: Simu.- login of 2 different users => user rejected
Has anybody had this problem before? If not, where should i start digging?
I'm running Samba 3.0.24 on Debian stable with slapd-2.2.23 backend.
smb.conf is attached below.
When two different users log in at the same moment, the login process
seems to freeze for a minute and the client (win2k) complains about
missing profile or missing access to profile. A single user login works
perfectly.
