AD auth with lowercase domain name
Hi All, I'm having issues getting Samba/Winbind to work with a domain that is lowercase. I have read on some sites that it won't work, is this the case? system is Debian lenny, samba 3.2.5-4. Windows server is 2003 running AD in 2000 native mode. I've done everything I would normally do that my running samba/ad authing servers do, and wbinfo -u + wbinfo -g work fine, as do the

smbd keeps maxing out the cpu, must reboot server constantly
This is running in vmware, and I noticed occasionally wmware reports that the cpu is being maxed out by a virtual machine. Logging into the virtual machine and running top confirms that the smbd process is maxing out the cpu. If I leave it alone for a while, eventually it starts dropping connections and not letting people into the file server. Killing the process with kill -9 does no good, it

Intermittent failures mapping drives.. need debugging help/sugges tions
There is a problem with a user mapping a network drive. Sometimes he can map it, sometimes he can't. SAMBA: 3.0-alpha18 UNIX: HP-UX 11.0 rsc is a valid account on the machine he's trying to connect to (entry in /etc/passwd, decent permissions on home directory and all parent directories, etc.) The strange thing is sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't

I use Samba 3.0.23d at FreeBSD 4.11-RELEASE-p25 as PDC and sometimes Microsoft Workgroup Add-On for MS-DOS and Mail as client. At FreeBSD box I have directory /common/install/postgreSQL and symlink to it: /usr/export/XP/i386/\$oem\$/install/postgreSQL -> /common/install/postgreSQL The path /usr/export/XP shared for MS Network as XP and mount via net use X: \\my_server\XP. Desperately need help with two printer issues
I just moved a new user onto my Samba server. He needs two things, and neither of them work! 1. When he tries to access one of the printers, he gets Access denied. Only for one of them. I can't find anything in the logs. When I try to access the printer as his user, I get: [2004/12/06 11:16:59, 5] smbd/uid.c:change_to_root_user(296) change_to_root_user: now uid=(0,0) gid=(0,0) I

Clients periodically disconnecting
Samba 3.0.21c, RHEL4. About a week ago, we restarted our Samba server because nmbd had run amok. Since that restart, our Apple clients have periodically disconnected -- by most reports, they disconnect every 15-45 minutes. It doesn't appear to be synchronized, i.e., every Mac on campus doesn't disconnect at once, but only occasionally. They get a message similar to: "A server you

Joining domain works - logging in doesn't
I'm building a replacement samba 3.5.6 domain controller to replace an old 3.0 one. Some other things are changing too. Our user accounts are now in LDAP rather than flat files (although the machine trust accounts will remain in a flat file), but that should be hidden from samba as it's going to be done through NSS. The smbpasswd file is a TDB file and will remain so. Our users

Specified user does not exist. Huh?!
Ok folks I?m at my wit?s end here as I cannot seem to join the domain I setup under Samba version 3.0.7. Every time I try and join the domain with a user that has the power to add a machine to the domain it just says that the user does not exist. This happens with all accounts which I have specified in the smb.conf file as a user that can do this function. I have added those users via smbpasswd ?a

failure to add a machine to domain
We put together a samba 3.0.x server to replace an nt domain controller 3 weeks ago when our nt servers were being hit by and unpatched/unpatchable vulnerability in nt. we went through numerous howto's and other documents. The net rpc vampire seem to grab everything fine. However, now when we attempt to add a machine to the domain we get a failure. looking through the log files we see

unexplained 'access denied' for windows workstations
Hi, We are running a samba fileserver, access controlled using posix acl (right 770, with users/groups on the filesystem level. Therefore samba shares look like this: [share] path = /srv/academic read only = no writable = yes create mask = 0770 directory mask = 0770 Now certain users complain that they cannot access certain folders, but looking at the folders from the linux fileystem, their
