Samba 3.0.4: some problems with SWAT/STATUS and smbstatus
Hi,
I just installed Samba 3.0.4 on a Solaris 2.6 server. I had no
problem compiling, intalling and configuring it, and everything seems to go
OK. People can connect to all the configured shares without any problem.
But I have some problems when getting server status either via
SWAT/STATUS or using smbstatus:
First, in the "Client" field of the SWAT/STATUS report I have

remote name change & machine account creation (Bug ?)
Hello,
Before all, in advance, I'm sorry for my bad english.
I'm trying to automate the join of new computers (running Windows XP Pro) to
my Samba (3.0.7) domain by using a unique ghost image and a windows sysprep
"script" that retrieve the real name of the machine and try to join the
domain with this name.
It works well while trying to join a w2k domain, but with my Samba

how to check open connections/files without smbstatus / swat
Hi,
I have one user who should be able to _view_ all open files and
connections on a samba server.
He should not be allowed to login to the server by telnet or ssh to use
smbstatus, nore should he be able to use swat as long as he could view
the configfile.
So my question: is there a way to configure swat for one user to only
view the opened connections? Or dose someone has an other idea?

smbstatus output question
Can anyone tell me how smbstatus does its host name resolution?
When I run smbstatus with no switches (3.0.20 on Suse 10.0), the output of
hosts mostly shows IP addresses, but a couple hosts will show up by name.
I've confirmed that all of the hosts are resolving in DNS through both
forward and backward lookups (dig and dig -x) from the Samba host. Also,
wins lookups also seem correct

a better smbstatus for monitoring samba ?
Hello,
does anyone know if there is a tool in existence that can monitor samba shares like smbstatus
but is much more advanced (and runs in console) , I mean a tool that has menues, some search
options, and things sorted out nice. A Samba realtime monitor would be the best thing with lots
of details and lots of options.
I tried Swat, but that aint really a solution to watch who is connected

How do I join a samba 3 client to a samba 4 AD server?
Hi,
I have set up a standard samba4 server via
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO and have tested that windows
machines can join the samba4 AD.
Now I am trying to join an Ubuntu machine to the same samba4 ad but it is
failing for me with the following message:
# net ADS JOIN -U Administrator
Enter Administrator's password:
Failed to join domain: failed to lookup DC info for domain

the 'copula' package
Is anybody using the Copula package in R? The particular problem I'm
facing is that R is not acknowledging the fitCopula command/function
when I load the package and (try to) run something very simple:
fit1 <- fitCopula(x1 = list(u11,u12,u13,u14,u15,u16,u17,u18), tCopula,
optim.control = list(NULL), method = "BFGS")
Anybody also using it, successfully or unsuccessfully?

Further png() question
Ok, I have reinstalled R-1.9.0 and this appears to have fixed the
problems I was having with png(). However, I have a further question
regarding png()
Is it possible to pass a par() argument to the png() command? I am
wanting to produce 4 plots per object, which I normally acheive on an X
window by par(mfrow=c(1,4)). I have tried calling a new plot and setting
par in this way but this has no

dse package problems
I am having problems with the package dse. I just installed R 2.2.1
and reinstalled all packages. I am running Windows XP Pro with all
updates.
Below there are two examples of error messages generated when trying
to execute some simple programs. The code was taken directly from the
package documentation.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

XP + SP2 + DFS + netbios alias = not working
Hi all,
I'm using Samba 3.0.6 (on IRIX 6.5).
This is just a 'let you know what I've discovered' message really.
I've just installed upgrade a laptop here to SP2 of Windows XP. It then
started failing to make network connections.
After much fiddling about, I tracked it down to DFS shares. This PC can
now connect to the DFS root OKay, but doesn't recognise the entries

Windows XP Pro SP2 and samba config for some NetBIOS aliases
Hi all,
I've got few NetBIOS aliases for samba server, one for each user's group:
group1svr, group2svr and so on.
Samba server is also domain master for my domain.
Linux version is SuSe Linux 8.2, samba version is 3..
At the end of samba.conf file I've put last line as follow:
include /etc/samba/server/%L/%U.conf.
I've created following directories in /etc/samba

Passing colnames to graphics title
Hi,
Just a quick query - if I'm creating a function to produce a number of
histograms per page of output (one per column from a matrix), how can I
pass the column name of the matrix into the title (or indeed to form part
of the x-axis label)?
TIA,
Laura

Linux SSO with samba4?
Hi,
I think it is great that samba4 has a single sign on solution for Windows
platforms and it seems to work well too, but I am wondering is it possible
to do the same for a Linux environment? I have been studying how to
implement single sign on using the Ubuntu way through this document:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SingleSignOn and I am wondering if I can
do the same with samba4 where the

Creating 3D Gaussian Plot
Hello,
I requested help a couple of weeks ago creating a dipole field in R but
receieved no responses. Eventually I opted to create a 3d sinusoidal plot
and concatenate this with its inverse as a means for a "next best"
situation. It seems that this isn't sufficient for my needs and I'm really
after creating a continuous 3d gaussian mesh with a "positive" and

How do I get an ssh client to authenticate with samba4's kerberos GSSAPI?
Hi,
I am doing some kerberos testing with samba4 using ssh. I have setup
samba4 using the howto at http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO and
active directory seems to be working both with Windows and Linux clients.
ssh unfortunately is not kerberos authenticating via GSSAPI. The client
krb5.conf contains this:

How do I get an ssh client to authenticate with samba4's kerberos GSSAPI? [Solved]
Hi,
I solved my ssh GSSAPI problem. There were a lot of solutions on google
referring to a proper fqdn in the /etc/hosts file and having the
fqdn's/principals in the kerberos server's keytab file but I found out that
my problem was that the samba4/kerberos server was running on a multi-homed
machine and that the ssh server kerberos authentication needed the
following parameter in order

why auth3_check_password load smb.conf again
Hi,
In function auth3_check_password of file source3/auth/auth_ntlmssp.c, it
load smb.conf by lp_load_with_shares(get_dyn_CONFIGFILE());.
I am wondering why it is needed since smbd has load config before and it
hurts the performance when smb.conf is large.
Thanks,

SYSLINUX 3.11-pre10
Okay, the serial port feature in 3.11-pre9 was of course completely
broken (I seem to have bad luck with -pre9's :)... a 3.11-pre10 is now
available, and it does seem to have a more reliable handling of arrow
keys ... *but not perfect*. There simply is no way to reliably detect
both [Esc] and arrow keys on existing serial consoles.
