winbind and pptpd authentication failure
Hi all I'm not sure whether to go to the ppp lists for this, or the samba lists. I thought I'd try here first. I have a linux firewall using winbind to authenticate users coming in with PPTP. It all seemed to work OK at first. After a while I noticed that authentication was denied to users who had previously (as in less than a day) authenticated successfully. After a day or so of

Fw: VPN setup problem - proxy arp I think
Hi all, I read the setup at http://www.blackh0le.net/articles/vpn-dun-howto.html to setup my VPN. However, I'm having a problem which I think is proxy-ARP not working. I like to ask you to see if you know what's going on. When I ping 10.77.1.1 from windows XP machine the packets get to the 10.77.1.1 machine, but they don't have a return path to get back. When I do ping the windows

mpd configure and route issues
I have searched google high and low for answers to this...and I have gotten many examples, howto, etc...but they all seem to have a slightly different configuration, and therefore, slightly different problems. Unfortunately, not enough of them show the network layout, along with the configuration, so it's hard to tell why certain IP are being used, and were they are on the network. I have

VPN server and logon to Samba PDC
My goal is to make VPN access to our Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7.0) so that users can access there home shares from Windows clients. I have read the instructions at http://samba.org/ftp/unpacked/lorikeet/pppd/final-report.pdf, but I can't make it work. Don't know if is due to my lack of skills or has something to do with the Popop functionality in FreeBSD. Following the instructions, i made a

ppp connection only every second time
hello everyone, i am setting up my computer and want to establish internet connection over ADSL. For this i have to use pptp. The annoying thing is, that doing 'pptp 10.0.0.138' i get a connection only every second time. Perhaps it is a problem, that i cannot stop pptp but killing it, and therefore pppd has to clean up? i am using pppd 2.4.3 and pptp 1.5.0 Thanks in advance

ppp interfaces for both loc and net
Hi, I''m in a process of setting up a firewall system, which is going to be also an ipsec/l2tp and pptp vpn server for some mobile clients. The problem is, that the system has two ISPs a cable one (no problems here) and a DSL provider. Because of the DSL provider the system is going to have one pppN interface for DSL (net zone) and many pppX interfaces for l2tp/pptp (loc zone)

Problem connecting to Samba server over PPP connection
Hi, I'm trying to connect to my samba server over a PPP connection (which is actually a PPTP VPN connection). I've got the PPP link configured and the routing setup so I can ping back and forth between the server and client, and I can also make tcp connections over the link. The server which samba is running on has a LAN connection in addition to the PPP connection, and I can connect to

Re: PPP + ntlm_auth
Hi, I resolved my problem by using radius, but I think ntlm_auth was running as root (called by ppp ???). I verified the access to the privileged pipe, and it was accessible to root (quite normal, as far as I know...) NTLM_AUTH failing?
That is client setup. We have that under control. Our Linux users use Network Manager to connect and our Windows users use the stuff built into Windows. My problem is server-side. The server is a PPTP VPN (running via pptpd) and I have to add the lines below to make it work. plugin winbind.so ntlm_auth-helper "/usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=ntlm-server-1" Now, that allows ALL

samba 3.2 breaks ppp winbind plugin
We have a system running fedora 8 using pptpd from the poptop yum repository. See http://www.poptop.org/ pptpd/pppd use the winbind plugin from the ppp package to authenticate to Active Directory. This works just fine. Then I found the same setup would not work on a fedora 9 setup. In order to exclude any possible configuration errors I built a virtual machine and simulated an upgrade. This

ntlm_auth from pppd help
Hello all, I am working on a VPN solution using FC3-2.6.12-1.1381 - openswan 2.4.4-1 - l2tpd 0.69-13 - pppd 2.4.3-5 - samba 3.0.10-1. When attempting a connection from an XP-SP2 box pppd dies without authenticating the user (see below). I have run ntlm_auth from the command line with success. What tools can I use to identify the failure? Is there an obvious error in the ppp options file?

Unified logons with winbind and tdbsam backend
I am trying to setup unified logons to my VPN users. My goal is to get rid of chap.secrets file and use winbind to authenticate against tdbsam password backend located in the PDC (Fedora Core 1) running with Samba 3.0.21pre1. I have tried with older Samba versions without success. Using winbind should allow password changes from the Windows XP Pro -client using CTRL+ALT+DEL. Smb.conf,

Authenticating PPTP users against Samba/LDAP
Hi, I have a few remote user who use a PPTP based VPN. The server is running PoPToP (http://www.poptop.org/), and a pppd patched to support MPPE/MPPC for (some) added security. Currently, users authentication information is stored in plaintext in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets. I'd like to be able to put users into LDAP, and have ppp authenticate either directly against LDAP, or against Samba (with an
