ntlm authentication
Heyho. My apologies if this mail arrives twice. The first time I sent it my email address didn't correspond to the one I signed onto the list with (one was an alias for the other). I'm not sure if the original will eventually make it through or not. I have a NT Domain which is run by my samba server (v3.0.22-r3 on Gentoo Linux). Everything works well, and the backend database is

Server Migration Problem
Gidday I am in the process of finishing a server migration (to a new server), and am having problems with samba on the new server. The old server was running samba 3.0.22-r3 on a Gentoo machine, and the new server is running Samba 3.0.25a on a Solaris 10 machine. I have copied the files across OK, I have copied the samba configuration OK, samba runs fine, connects to the ldap backend

Remote Registry Changes
Heyho. I'm trying to add registry entries to my workstations remotely from my server. I can currently do this remotely from any other workstation, using the standard Windows regedt32, but I'd like to do it form the server. .. The server is Samba 3.0.22-r3 on a Gentoo server. I've been digging around for a while now, and have managed to find docs for samba-tng which seem to

Does Samba/Winbind not follow nested groups in AD?!?
Here's the situation: We have users who are members of groups and those groups are sometimes members of a 2nd level of groups. If a folder has permissions assigned to a 2nd level group, then the user can not access the share. Doing a "getent group | grep user | grep 2nd_level_group" also returns nothing. Samba seems to not be recognizing that a user is a member of a group under

Samba and Medisoft
I am looking at putting the medisoft application on a samba share. I was wondering if there is currently anyone using this configuration and if so then what are some of the problems that I might encounter. The app is currently being hosted on a Winxp pro machine and I need to move it to a server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Scott Swaim

ldapsam:editposix
Hello list, I'm trying to setup Samba to use: ldapsam:editposix = yes but I'm having problems to add users via "smbpasswd -a". It seems smbpasswd tries to modify an existing entry (and falling of course) instead of adding a new entry. Is that a bug, a configuration problem, or intended behavior? Do I need to create a postixaccount entry prior to use "smbpasswd

restrict what users can log onto each workstation
I have a Samba server with Windows XP clients, and roaming profiles for every user. At this moment everyone can log onto any workstation, but it shouldn't be like that: there are some workstations where anyone can log into, but three of them should be restricted to some specific users. I thought about making local users for them, but we need all users to have roaming profiles, I can't

squid ntlm_auth not working on versions above 3.0.26
Hello. I am using squid with ntlm authentication against a samba PDC. It has worked for me perfectly in debian etch with samba version 3.0.24, and ubuntu Gutsy with samba 3.0.26a. But when I have upgraded those servers to hardy (samba 3.0.28a) and lenny (3.2.3), thn sqwuid auth has stopped working, without any other config change. Squid version I am using is 2.6-STABLE17, and . I am using the

Squid/ntlm_auth issues with two user accounts (all other accounts on the domain work).
Hi all, I have just installed and configured a squid setup authenticating against Active Directory using kerberos tickets and have achieved the holy-grail of IT - Single Sign On! The problem is that I have two users for whom is does not work. The ntlm_auth logs show that for users that are properly authenticated against squid we get the following (Usernames/Domains/Hosts have been changed for

I can't get mod_auth_ntlm_winbind to work
Scenario: Centos 5 x86_64 machine with samba-3.0.23c-2.el5.2.0.2 The machine is a PDC, Windows 2000 users logon, get profiles, etc. I'm trying to set up a folder in apache that uses NTLM authentication using mod_auth_ntlm_winbind. I've followed: http://adldap.sourceforge.net/mod_auth_ntlm_winbind.php winbindd is running, and ntlm_auth seems to work: # ntlm_auth --username=pdc2

Unable to use more than 1000 concurrent ntlm_auth processes
Hi List, I'm running a heavily loaded squid server that uses ntlm_auth to provide NTLM authentication. As load has increased over time, I've found the need to increase the number of ntlm_auth processes available to squid as well as the "winbind max clients" value in the smb.conf file. This has worked well up until now but seems I've hit some sort of limit. If I keep the

Problems with 'ntlm_auth --require-membership-of' using Samba 3.0.6
Hi there, I'm trying to configure Squid to use a windows domain for authentication, and all goes well until I add the "--require-membership-of" option on ntlm_auth. I need to restrict access based on group membership, however ntlm_auth does not seem to be behaving correctly. I'm using Samba 3.0.6 on Debian and I'm using a Windows 2000 (SP4) Domain Controller. I

Using ntlm_auth with a non-Squid application
Hi Gaetano, Good plan, I'd be very interested in your work as I am starting to look at symfony here, also! I do have ntlm_auth working perfectly using Samba 4 (and with badlock patches). I use it with freeradius, not squid. An extract from my /etc/raddb/modules/mschap, if it helps: ntlm_auth = "/usr/local/samba/bin/ntlm_auth --request-nt-key

ntlm_auth, universal principal name, multi-domain active directory - can samba authenticate?
I posted a similar message on the freeradius list a few months ago and it was suggested I come here. Now that this effort is once again underway I am looking for some assistance. We are trying to replace our existing AAA solution with FreeRadius. The user base is contained in an Active Directory single forest-multi domain model. The only feature of samba that we need to leverage is the
