Samba performance issue
Hi, In the last a couple of weeks, Eric helped me fixed a couple of my new samba 3.0.5 running on HP-UX 11i hang issues. Right now, people still experience slowness when they run some applications on the samba shares OR recursive list directories on the samba shares. There was not a lot of errors in the individual log files. However, there are some errors in log.smbd and log.0.0.0.0 file. 1)

samba errors - "No buffer space available"
I am new to Samba, having just taken over management of a HPUX system in a mainly Windows environment. The system is running Samba 3.0.7. I am getting the following errors, repeatedly, in my log.smbd. What does it mean? Is this actually a problem or normal chatter for Samba? If it is a problem, what should I do to correct it? open_sockets_smbd: accept: Software caused connection abort
Sorry if this is an FAQ...I have seen reports of this problem on several mailing lists, but never a solution. I have used Samba on Solaris for years, currently 2.2.1 on Solaris 9. Trying to upgrade to 3.0.6, with no luck on 2 different Solaris 9 systems. It compiles and installs OK, but clients can't connect. Not only Win2k and XP PC's, but smbclient -L on the same machine

Access to sockets denied in Termux
Is anyone familiar with using a samba server in Android Termux? It works OK for an smbmount in a Linux qemu VM, in the instance started by the -nic smb=$PATH option of qemu (both qemu-system-x86_64 and samba installed to Termux) but smbd -D fails with this log: [2024/01/06 11:46:54.038658, 0] ../../source3/smbd/server.c:1741(main) smbd version 4.16.11 started. samba3 upgrade misery
Greetings, all We've been running samba2 for far too long - I'd just never found the time to upgrade, and it wasn't a priority since it WORKED. Our little Solaris9/SPARC64 box happily served our few gigs of files to 20 users, and played the part of a PDC. Then I upgraded CUPS, and discovered samba2 doesn't like cups-1.2 libs, and figured it was as good an excuse to make the

Access to sockets denied in Termux
No, I don't have root in my Android. I understand that prevents access to ports below 1024 but I find that Linux clients can mount Termux qemu-started Samba shares nevertheless. I need to prevent smbd crashing for want of low sockets and wonder if win9x can mount without them. Must restart Samba regularly because saving files stops working
One of our sites is currently testing Samba 3.0.21c as PDC on HP-UX 11.00 with openldap backend. >From time to time - about every two days - it suddenly becomes impossible for the clients (NT4 & XP) to save any more files to the samba shares. When the problems start occurring they simply stop and restart samba, and then everything works again for a couple of days. Please not that the samba

Semantics of "smb ports = 0"
Hello, The qemu emulator has a feature to fork a samba instance for file sharing with the emulated hosts. It communicates with smbd over stdin. The generated configuration file contains a "smb ports = 0" directive to prevent smbd from listening to any ports. Unfortunately, with at least Samba 3.6.4 this causes a segfault instead: [0] vostro:/tmp/qemu-smb.6836-0# smbd -i -s smb.conf

I am using Samba 3.0.20 with Sun Directory Server as a PDC. I have been running this setup for a year now, and I haven't had any other issues, except this one... I have four Windows 2003 Servers that are domain members. On one of the 2003 Servers is being used as a Terminal Services Session Directory, and the other three 2003 Servers are Terminal Servers. Slowness problems with Samba 3.0.1, Solaris, and Clearcase
Hello -- I recently installed Samba 3.0.1 on our Solaris 8 servers (as well as our RedHat servers) and I wanted to see if I could get some feedback on a few things. We are using Samba in conjunction with Clearcase for our software developers and because of that, we have oplocks turned off (also level2 oplocks = no as well). We are authenticating to our ADS server, but joining the domain with

failed to set socket options
Samba Users: We have Samba v1.9. and are having a small difficulty with the "socket options" and "??? timeout" parameters. When we set it to ?TCP_NODELAY, our log file indicates "Failed to set socket option TCP_NODELAY". This also happened on an earlier version of Samba as well. Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a solution? Also, when setting
