ntlm_auth from pppd help
Hello all,
I am working on a VPN solution using FC3-2.6.12-1.1381 - openswan
2.4.4-1 - l2tpd 0.69-13 - pppd 2.4.3-5 - samba 3.0.10-1.
When attempting a connection from an XP-SP2 box pppd dies without
authenticating the user (see below).
I have run ntlm_auth from the command line with success.
What tools can I use to identify the failure?
Is there an obvious error in the ppp options file?

Winbind + PPP
Hello,
I tried various settings to authenticate my PPP (l2tp) users via
winbind (ntlm_auth), without success... I use ppp 2.4.3 and Samba
3.0.22-2tr. My distribution is Trustix 2.2
What is working :
- mschapv2 authentication with chap-secrets (nomppe, novj, novjccomp)
- wbinfo -g, wbinfo -u, getent passwd and getent group
- net ads info and net ads status
- ntlm_auth --username X

Samba 4.10.7 + freeradius 3.0.17 +ntlm_auth - Debian buster
Hai,
It does not happen often but yes, i also need some help as i cant know everything also and im new with freeradius.
Im working on a configuration for samba member + freeradius with ntlm_auth.
Why ntlm_auth, because the next one is kerberos and ldap auth to configure..
I want to have some fallback options here and you have to start somewhere.
This is running on my new proxy/gateway

Thank you for the config file snippets. I can confirm mine were almost identical, so I've tweaked them so that they are now exactly the same as yours except for the "--require-membership-of=example\authorization_groupname" line in ntlm_auth.
Unfortunately it's still erroring out:

Dear All,
I'm trying to setup FreeRADIUS to authenticate a machine account to grant access to wifi for domain-connected machines. I think I've got the GPO's set up properly and the CA deployed to the clients, as I'm not getting any errors there.
The errors I'm getting are to do with ntlm_auth not authenticating my machine account. Everything looks OK (to me) on the command

Is this set as a UPN (with the realm appended) on the user?

I don't see any UPN's in my AD record, only SPNs - unless I misunderstand you?

Yes, I found that here:

NTLM_AUTH failing?
I am not sure how to determine the separator, but 'which' shows
"/usr/bin/ntlm_auth". I already ran it while on-site. Since it is
broken, I cannot remote in. I will have to show up on-site again,
possibly Thursday.

how to use ntlm_auth
Hi,
I want to know how to use ntlm_auth with ntlm-server-1 and freeradius,
with the users login and password information in ldap.
I have read documentation of ntlm_auth (only found the man page), docs
and howtos about pptp and squid, i don't found about freeradius, and i'm
experimenting with the options of ntlm_auth.
I have configured freeradius+ldap+802.1X for a wireless lan, but i

NTLM_AUTH failing?
Thank you, Rowland. I will be going by this afternoon and I will check.
The thing is, if it IS "\", how do I enter that into the pptp-options
file? The entire list of parameters are in quotes, so do I need a
double-backslah or anything?

ntlm_auth
I am trying to get FreeRADIUS using Samba's ntlm auth for MSCHAPv2 authentication.
I asked this question over on the FreeRADIUS list, and I think the stunned silence means that the folks over there think you guys in the Samba world may be able to help better.
I admit it's been a few years since I did any Samba!
I have joined my two RADIUS servers (FreeRADIUS 2.0.2, Solaris 10 x86,

ntlm_auth how to get challenge and nt-response
Hi all, I'm trying to use ntlm_auth as authenticator of the freeradius
mschap module. If I use ntlm_auth from command line with username and
password, authentication works. If I use the same credentials with
mschap on the logs I can see the challenge and nt-response and I can't
understand if authentication fails because challenge and response are
wrong or because ntlm_auth can't

'winbind use default domain' doesn't appear to work with ntlm_auth
Hi everyone,
We just upgraded Samba from 4.4.5 to 4.6.5 and appear to be experiencing a problem with authentication, when the RPC domain is not supplied as part of the username.
I have two scenarios where this has cropped up:
RADIUS authentication using ntlm_auth
Apache HTTP using mod_auth_ntlm_winbind
RADIUS authentication:
We use the freeRADIUS 'mschap' module to provide

problems after migrating NT domain to AD (samba 4.7.x)
Dear List,
My domain +/- works, so I try to fix rest services based on domain NT/AD....
I use WiFi authorization with PEAP/MSCHAPv2 + freeradius (before
migration it works).
And after migration autorization does not work.
Freeradius server is on samba domain member.
So i check domain connectivity:
[root at see-you-later samba]# net ads testjoin
Join is OK

NTLM_AUTH failing?
That is client setup. We have that under control. Our Linux users use
Network Manager to connect and our Windows users use the stuff built
into Windows. My problem is server-side. The server is a PPTP VPN
(running via pptpd) and I have to add the lines below to make it work.
plugin winbind.so
ntlm_auth-helper "/usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=ntlm-server-1"
Now, that allows ALL

I can share my notes, we authenticate UniFi clients via Freeradius against Samba AD. We also check group membership which you might or might not need:
