samba domain planning questions
Hello,
We are considering to migrate from Novell eDirectory to Apple Open Directory + Windows Services from Apple as Domain Controller. I've read a lot of books and manuals and forums about Apple Directory Services, Domain Controllers and Samba, but there are lots of unanswered questions still. Mainly about naming and planning of different things on the network. I also tried to post to Apple

Cannot join domain: "The user name could not be found"
Hello!
I'm trying to join a Windows XP (64 bit version) machine to a Samba
3.0.21a domain via smbldap-tools 0.9.1 on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p4 and I'm
continually getting the message "The user name could not be found."
I am attempting to join using members of the Domain Admins group (mapped
to Unix group 515), and I'm noticing in the logs (below) that even
though the machine

Call recording format
Hi All,
We have a requirement to record over 60 simultaneous calls. Our recording
facilities are implemented using Monitor() over AMI. The thing we have
noticed that making 60 simultaneous call recordings using wav CPU load is
significantly higher (around 2 times more) than using gsm. Even writing call
recordings to /dev/null makes a big difference in CPU load.
What could be the reason for this?

Avoiding deadlock
For some reason we are seeing "Avoiding deadlock for channel" in our
Asterisk logs, the logs are getting filled up with an amazing speed around
12000 lines a second, and all of them are "Avoiding deadlock". What could be
the potential reason for this to be happening? The Asterisk is used as auto
dialler, therefore different channel types are involved SIP, DAHDI, Local's.

connection.tdb difference IP vs. NetBIOS name
Hello all,
I am having a problem with Samba 3.0.0 (I have actually tested
this with 3.0.1pre3, and seem to have the same problem). I am trying to
add a new message to smbcontrol. I have put the code into smbcontrol.c,
and I can deliver messages to the samba processes (using the command
line: ./smbcontrol smbd <mymsg>). The problem is that
messages get delivered to the Samba

Change Netbios name during classicupgrade?
Hi Rowland, Denis
Thank you very much for your answers, It helped really a lot.
And sorry for the delay of answer, was busy on other stuff.
You advices don't lead me straight to the solution, but i get
improvements, thanks to it.
For now, whatever i can do to change the workgroup, It changes the
Domain SID.
Actually it's more subtle;
Before change workgroup:

security = domain -- samba adds its netbios name as samba domain to LDAP
Hi!
I am running a RedHat Cluster with Samba shares that can failover to
other nodes.
On every node there is one Samba instance running permanently and acting
as BDC (BDC instance) for my Samba domain, that binds to the physical
network interfaces of the node.
When starting a samba resource on a cluster node, I mount the
corresponding file system from SAN on that node and start another

Join NT Domain and Samba Netbios Name problem
Hi,
I'm using Mandrake 10 CE, Samba 3.02a, Winbind. I have got a strange problem.
My linux machines can not join to our NT 4.0 domain when I define a netbios name which includes "I" or "i".
How can I solve this problem.
Any answers ....
Thanks a lot.

AGI: "Get variable" returns variable VALUE vs "Get full variable" returns variable NAME - bug or my misunderstanding?
OK, that works - looks like a documentation bug? (Also very confusing!)
Should I report it on the page at
https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Asterisk+17+AGICommand_get+full+variable
or
on the main tracker?
Many thanks - couldn't figure out what was wrong!

SOAP service - perl server, ruby consumer incompatability
Hi All,
Wonder if any of you guys can help troubleshoot the following for me.
What I''m trying to achieve is:
1) Perl web service, using SOAP::Lite (server)
2) Ruby web service consumer, using SOAP::RPC::DRIVER (client)
My problem is, if my client and server are both Perl based, the
output is as expected. However, if the client is Ruby based (haven''t

displaying a table in full vs. typing variable name
I have a data frame called totaldata that is 10,000 rows by about 9 columns. The
data frame contains many zero entries which are important. If I type >totaldata
it only prints out the first two columns. I expect (and want) it to print out all
9 columns. (I am actually "sinking" this to a text file, so imagine my surprise
when the text file has only a few columns). I know

AGI: "Get variable" returns variable VALUE vs "Get full variable" returns variable NAME - bug or my misunderstanding?
Just trying out a node agi package (https://github.com/sergey12313/ts-agi/ ,
and it wasn't behaving as I expected, but when turning on agi debug, it
looks like it might be Asterisk (using 17.1.0)
This works as expected

Dumb ? question abount Name Resolution on a full Samba Domain
I wonder how to configure the name resolution on the Windows network.
I am puzzled by the "Wins Support" section of the smb.conf man page:
" You should not set this to yes unless you have a multi-subnetted
network and you wish a particular nmbd to be your WINS server "
Does that mean that on my subnet, broadcast is as performant as direct
acces to the Name Server, even if

winbind joins with domain name , not netbios name
Hi,
I am having a problem with Winbind:
First, some information ..
Domain name :TESTDOM
PDC's Netbios name : ubuntu
Samba version : 3.0.20 (lateset patches installed) with LDAP backend.
Linux : Ubuntu 2.6.10
Samba is running smoothly, with no problems.
I want to use Winbin, so I followed Samba HowTo - chapter 23

Joining an AD domain when hostname != netbios name
I'm trying to join a RHEL5 host to an AD domain, and can do this
successfully when I set those hostname to the same value as the samba
"netbios name" parameter. However, when I try with a hostname !=
netbios name, it fails. Is it possible to join a machine when the
hostname isn't the same as the netbios name?
The reason for wanting this is because I have a whole load of servers

After joining domain, Samba uses the workgroup name, not the FQDN when running the net ads command
Great thanks, I'll start digging into that. So your running theory is that
one of the DNS resolution attempts is returning .WINDOWS not .
WINDOWS.CORP.XXX.com?
