[Fwd: Re: Migrating to samba from windows NT domain]
Yes, this would be possible; 1. Vampire your accounts on to a new Samba DC 2. Disconnect it from network 3. Denote your NT Dc's 4. Rejoin them to the Samba Domain NOTE: As the other person said, while possible, this would be a bitch of a job. You said you need to maintain your NT server anyway, why not just put the files and printers and what not on samba and leave the user accounts to

Moving Domains - profiles question
Hi, I have an existing WinNT domain and, after some labour, a new Samba3x domain. I created the Samba domain with a different name because the WinNT domain name wasn't appropriate. I have about 40 users. Their accounts have been added to the new domain. I'm almost ready to shift everyone to the new domain but I am a bit concerned about the user's profiles. These are local profiles. I

Samba & Vista
Hello, Does anybody know if Samba is compadable with Vista Yet? If so, is there a way for a group pr user policy to allow samba users to things in windows vista, like install programs w/o admin access. I know Vista has policies that can do this, where it cna basicly grant the user access, witha prompt or w/o a prompt. Can Samba support this too?

How do I modify registry: Hk user?
All, Looks like I'm in a predicament. One of our new sites will prompt users (in IE) to display "mixed content". Which is basically asking if you want to display some http in a https site. I have found the solution, (besides having a user go into IE's tools / privacy / custom settings / enable mix content) - with a registry entry. However, the registry entry goes to:

RE : Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Are you sure of that ? I thought it was possible... If it is not, I've got another slightly off topic question : how to I demote my former Windows NT PDC (that is now a BDC) to a normal Windows NT server, so that I have no problem with it ? Thanks in advance. -------- Message d'origine-------- De: Umberto Zanatta [mailto:uzanatta@provincia.treviso.it] Date: lun. 26/07/2004 14:09

IP address getting overridden by Samba and domain member?
I have been running Samba 4 as an AD/DC for a couple of years now with few problems. I provisioned the domain using --dns-backend=BIND9_FLATFILE and the /etc/named.conf includes the samba-tool provision created file /var/lib/samba/private/named.conf, with zone files in /var/lib/samba/private/dns. All that has been working just fine for for 2 or 3 years. Lately, I added a VirtualBox XP guest

Seeking help in Package development
Dear all, I am a new user of R and currently trying hard to develop my own package. Here I am following this tutorial 'http://www.mathfinance.cn/how-to-create-an-R-package-in-windows/' Here it says that (step 8): "open a ?command prompt? window, change the directory to where your package is, type the command ?R CMD build MonteCarloPi? to build the package, this will generate a file

Symlinks for Windows
Hi all, Dave Burt mentioned the possibility of adding symlinks to the Dir class. http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/misc.shtml#junction There is also Autrijus Tang''s symlink Perl module at http://search.cpan.org/~autrijus/Win32-Symlink-0.04/ Looks easy enough, but it only seems to work for directories, not regular files. Should we add this to the Directory class, or simply

SAM from NT BDC to Samba
Hello!! A customer of mine recently experienced a catastrophic failure of their PDC, and their BDC is not running as stable as we'd like. They've agreed to move PDC/BDC schema to Linux (currently they run NT4). So the question is: having ONLY a BDC available for SAM database, how do I extract that so I can replicate that to Samba and do a "transparent" upgrade (if possible)?

NT4 Migration Question
A client has an existing NT4 domain with several NT4 servers. Two of the NT4 Servers function as a PDC and a BDC. We are installing Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro as a PDC with an LDAP backend, and decommissioning the NT4 PDC at the same time. So far, so good. We can also rebuild the old PDC hardware as a Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro BDC. Unfortunately however, the NT4 BDC cannot be removed from the network

Problem getting Samba 3.0.14a to join NT domain as BDC
Hi list, This is driving me to distraction. I have installed the 3.0.14a RPMS on SLES8, and am following chapter 9 of the 'By Example' documentation, to migrate from an NT domain to a Samba domain backed by LDAP. I have followed the instructions up to the point where I enter: net rpc join -S pdc_it -U Administrator%password Unfortunately, this responds with: Creation of workstation
