Linux export always R/O to PC no matter what
I'm sure this is a question asked many times before, but before I'm flamed,
let me state that I've spent TWO WEEKS researching and testing this problem.
I've read so many "How To's," forum postings, news groups, and "official
docs," I should be an expert on Samba by now. It's obscene.

amd 920824upl102 ignores the nodev option
amd from the amd-920824upl102-6.i386.rpm file distributed with RedHat
Linux 4.1 does not honor the nodev option for NFS filesystems and probably
other mount types, allowing any user access to the device files in /dev on
a system, provided that they have root access to another linux box on the
network. In addition, the default amd.conf from RH 4.1 maps /net/* to NFS
mounting, which makes the bug in

why does automounting removable media always have options nodev, noexec, nosuid?
i'm experimenting with some basic removable media mounting
exercises for an upcoming class, and i read that, while you can use
gconf-editor to change some of the mount options in cases like that,
there is no way to override the mount options of nodev, noexec and
nosuid. for example, that claim is made here (admittedly for fedora,
but it appears to be true for centos as well):

Fwd: pam_mount configuration for users home directories from server to client
Hi,
I have a debian server with ldap, samba, smbldap-tools installed and
ubuntu clients. I set pam_mount to mount the user's home directories
from the ldap-samba server (amahoro) on the clients at login time and
this runs.
On the server the user's home directories are stored in
"/users" like "/users/username".
Logging by gdm appears the message: "Could not

reliability of mounting shares while login
Hi @all,
I have some problems when using pam_mount.conf.xml to mount shares via kerberos (and also for ntlm) regarding reliability of the mount. I have tested the issue with 2 different environments. My environments are: 2 Microsoft Domain Controllers + a separate fileserver and Ubuntu 18.04 or 22.04 as clients. My other tested environment is one Microsoft Server 2019 (as domain controller and

sda and sdb reverse order with an external USB drive
Hello
I am using 64 bit CentOS 6.4 on an i7 laptop with one sata drive and a
CD drive.
I installed CentOS by manually partitioning sda as:
sda1 as /boot, sda2 as swap, sda3 as /.
The booted system works great.
When I insert an external USB drive, formatted as ext3, the hard drive
on the laptop and the
USB drive are either sda or sdb, depending upon the order on which I
insert the USB drive

Thanks to Prof. Ripley for responding to my previous question.
I would like to clarify my question using sample code. I will use some
sample code taken from ?prcomp
Again, I would like to compare the % variance explained by each PC
before and after rotation.

mounting an AD share upon login
Hi everyone,
I am having trouble mounting a share on my AD server upon login.
I am using pam_mount. Here is log activity when user 'peter' logs in
(with Ubuntu client) and is authenticated by AD server. There is a
share called 'peter' on the server (netbios name WIN2003) and the mount
point is /home/PRIVATE/peter (see later for pam_mount.conf file):
