deadtime/keepalive not working as expected
My expectations are probably wrong, but I had to manually kill a process to unlock a file when I think it should have killed itself. I have deadtime set to 15 and keepalive at default (300). I opened a file on my server in Excel, then shut down the machine. Hours later someone tells me the file is locked. Shouldn't keepalive have detected that the machine was off in 5 minutes?

Deadtime parameter questsion
Hello samba gurus ! I'm using samba 3.0.21c on AIX 5.3 box . I've specified deadtime=15 in my smb.conf file and I'm expecting that inactive sessions ( has no open files ) will be closed after 15 minutes . I'm connecting to samba from my PC ( win2000 ) , minimizing the window and waiting 15 minutes ... but nothing happens - smbd opened by my connection is still running , window

'deadtime' in Samba 3.0.13
Hi, I currently have deadtime = 15 in my smb.conf. This featured worked good to disconnect clients that have been idle for > 15 minutes in the past. With the 3.0.13 version, it seems to do nothing. As in, it just keeps the user connected indefinitely. Here is what I see when no one is currently at the office and everyone is logged off their computer. Thanks [root@spicy p]#

Re: smbd blocking in receive_smb (how to trigger procedure - LONG)
Hi, We've been experiencing this same problem, however, with Samba 3.0.7-1.3E.1 running on RedHat ES 3.0. We've also experienced this on 2.2.7x on RedHat 9. The problem has been intermittently happening over the last several weeks, (I've posted list about it). This message, along with the others in the thread, describes the symptoms that we're seeing, however, I haven't

Fwd: samba & Oracle ACFS Issues
Hi Volker and the list Yesterday the problem appeared again I could launch a strace command over a samba PID to see what was going on and this is the result [PRO] [root at pf3il0024 ~]# strace -frp 57686 Process 57686 attached - interrupt to quit 0.000000 fcntl(14, F_SETLKW, {type=F_RDLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=35824, len=1} It seems the process was trying to get a read-lock but no one

Samba 1.9.18p8 shared read-only?
Hi, I recently upgraded to 1.9.18p8 on Solaris 2.6 and am having a problem with writable services other than [homes]. [apps] is one that's causing the most difficulty. Users are being logged into writable shares as user 'nobody' and are not permitted write access. The shares are set as 'writable' and 'write ok'. host equiv does not have an effect either. All hosts

Windows XP and Samba 3.0.22 -- don't mix?
All, I desperately need a resolution to this issue. I've asked once (about a day or two ago), but I haven't heard anything back. The only reason I press the issue is I may because without a quick resolution, I may be forced to switch over to AD (cry!). I submitted a request via Bugzilla but I saw a slightly similar problem with 3.0.20a that still hasn't been resolved, so I

Need some explanation on Samba/NFS locks handle
Hi there, We are thinking about sharing same files: - OS2/Win clients with Samba - Linux clients with NFS. So, the same files would be shared by 2 different protocols. Looking at the open.c samba code, there seems to be no check / no error (sharing violation) returned to the smb client when the file is already locked by an NFS client. - So, even if a file is opened and locked by an NFS client,

Many smbd processes per user
Hi, We're encountering severe load problems associated with multiple smbd processes running per user. As an example below, this user has only five files open yet many smbd's running. Is there a reason for this occurring? I've been experimenting with file locking etc to try and get around it. Thanks Tim tim@hostname:~> smbstatus -u yunjeng -S INFO: Debug class all level = 1

Logout script delay
With Windows 7 and Samba 4, I?m finding that the postexec script doesn?t execute immediately a user logs out or shuts down their PC. As yet, I?m not exactly sure of the time lapse, but it seems to be a few hours. The existing Windows XP machines seem to be working fine ? ie if they shutdown the postexec script runs. The script simply deletes their login script from the netlogon directory.

smb keeps stale connections from logged out users and shut down clients
We are using Samba 3.0.33 as a PDC and file server for Windows XP clients, but seem to be suffering lots of stale connections. smbstatus still shows connections from users already logged out and even from systems which have already been shut down. Restarting the samba service, cleans up all stale connections. We tried deadtime = 5 in the samba configuration file, but this does not help at all.

Connection still alive after client disconnects
Hi to all, i've got same problems with "hanging" sessions. I use samba 2.0.4a on a S.u.S.E. Linux with kernel 2.2.5. After a client (win95) shuts down sometimes a session still locks the files on the samba server. I tried to use the socket option "S0_KEEPALIVE" and the global option "keepalive=600". During the day i see many log entries like this: [1999/07/29

Two samba 2.0.7, one dialup line and excessive connects ...
Hi everybody. I have to admin two offices, about 500 km apart. Because we're in Germany and dedicated lines (and even VPN ones over the internet) are very heavy in cost, we use a dialup ISDN connection. That is online almost 8 hours a day, but still cheaper. Now the remote office said that their e-mail was too slow and I installed a second samba server for them, being a logon master so

Multiple instances of /usr/bin/smbd -D
Hi, I'm new to the list, so "hello everybody" ... I have a (big) problem wih my new PDC under samba with ldap auth. When I start a new session, samba launch multiple instances of smbd for this new user in 5-10 minutes ... The system is very slow on the client and finish to crash and need to close the session. But, when I close the session, the smbd processes aren't
