samba 3.0.14 fails on boot, getpwnam cannot find nobody
I have been trying to get a share running for public access to part of a workstations hard disk. Realise now that this is not possible at userlevel security without a username, password pair. Part of my playing around involved creating on the machine user nobody, then setting guest account = nobody in samba.conf. Once realising i needed a passwrd pair I smbpasswd -X nobody and then userdel

ldapsam:trusted=yes, 'user in passdb, but getpwnam() fails'
Hello all, I am working with samba-3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze. From the smb.conf(5), I assumed that, by using 'ldapsam:trusted=yes', one can avoid touching the NSS/PAM configuration. However, I am getting a: user in passdb, but getpwnam() fails in the logs. Is my assumption wrong? Regards, Joe -- .o. I'm a Free man. I use Free Software. ..o ooo http://www.joesteeve.org/

I've gotten passed the problem I had with joining the domain. However, I am still having problems with the authentication of domain user accounts against the samba server. wbinfo -u shows my users from the domain correctly. wbinfo -g does the same for my domain groups. getent passwd shows the domain users as expected. wbinfo -t shows a good trust. wbinfo -a allows me to authenticate any

getpwnam() fails with winbind on samba pdc
Hello List, I've been running into the following winbind problem and would really appreciate if anyone could give me a hint here: I'm currently using Samba 2.2.7a as a fileserver (domain member), user-authentication is done on a WinNT 4.0 PDC. The Samba fileserver is running winbind so all the users need not be created locally. Now I want to replace the old Samba version with Samba

getpwnam() fails for LDAP Users on AIX 5.3
Hello List, below our smb.conf and loglevel 5 output of a failed authentication. We want to get the Unix User details from MS-SFU using the new idmap_ad Backend. If the Windows User is mapped to local name it's all fine. But if we want to use our SFU Users it fails. We believe getpwnam() on AIX is faulty. "id username" and login works for all users local and AD! Any ideas how to
