Excel Read only file bug back on 3.0.23x?
Hi,
I believe that the BUG 2346 which was resolved in samba 3.0.14 has come back in the 3.0.23 series.
Here is what I have noticed on two separate configurations. The samba packages were built on each
machine using rpmbuild with the SRPMS provided for Fedora in the samba web site.
Configuration 1.
Two machines running with RHEL4, samba 3.0.23b-1, drbd-0.7.21 protocol C.

smbd Process Changes Ownership - lsof output
Hi,
When using lsof, I see that smbd changes ownership from the actual user
who made the connection, to root. Also seeing odd behavior with certain
files accessed from XP boxes suddenly becoming "read only" to the user
mid edit, and appears to be related.
Ex: lsof output at 8:45 AM:
smbd 11987 user1 cwd DIR 253,3 4096 704687

Users Losing Data - Excel Files Not Locking Properly
Hi,
We have a problem like I've never seen in 8 years of running Samba in
production. Two users can overwrite each other's open Excel
spreadsheets. It occurs very infrequently, basically randomly, never
happens on a recently restarted smbd instance, and is extremely
difficult to troubleshoot due to samba switching process ownership from
the user to "root" shortly after

loading shared libraries at startup
Dear people,
I compiled a bit of C code into a shared library cftpR.so, and load it
into R at runtime using
> dyn.load("cftpR.so")
This works fine, however when I put
.First <- function()
{
dyn.load("/home/faheem/research/cftp/cftpR.so")
}
(using absolute path names; also tried with just dyn.load("cftpR.so")),
into my .Rprofile to load the library at

again on file corruption
Hi,
I've posted the same problem several months ago, You can find my post
there:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-March/119244.html
I summed up all the whole thing: I run a samba server based on slackware
10.2, using samba 3.0.20 with two clients: a windows 98 box and a
windows 2000 box. I've got a share between the two system which hosts an
old spreadsheet program (quattro pro)

win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP
You wrote:

The software we need runs in win9x.
We crave stability. But Linux+Samba is just much slower as a file
server.
It's normally quite fast: are you running over a
dial-up network, requiring you to adust MTU's for
speed???
If not, try ``socket

FC6 and winbind separator ignored?
I'm trying to join my FC6 box to our Active Directory domain. For the most
part the setup was pretty straightforward, but it just doesn't seem like
winbind separator is being honored.
When I do a 'getent passwd' I get the following:
AVWORLD\johnXXXX:*:16782801:16777216:XXXXXXXX:/home/AVWORLD/johnXXXX:/bin/bash

what are the constraints on the contents of 'imported ' files
I am trying to import a hash definition from a separate file but this
fails whereas including the text verbatim in the original manifest
works fine:

Accessing domain share drives
I'm using
SUSE linux 2.4.19-4GB
samba-client-2.2.5-226
pam_smb-1.1.6-371
My goal is to configure a Linux desktop into a windows domain environment.
So far I have managed to configure pam_smb to authenticate users to the PDC.
So thats good.
Now the problem is when user tries to browse a share.
At the moment the users has to retype in their domain/userid password

Help Documentation (PR#6717)
Ivo,
Let me address your points in reverse order:
1. There is a `wishlist' category for bug reports, which I guess you've
overlooked.
2. There is also a `Contributed Documentation' section on the R web site,
which you can submit your contribution. As well, there are a few
introductory level documents there already that you might be interested.
3. I must repectfully disagree about

Gluster clients can't see directories that exist or are created within a mounted volume, but can enter them.
We've got an issue with Gluster (3.12.x) where clients can't see directories that exist or are created within a mounted volume.
We can see files, but not directories (with ls, find etc...)
We can enter (cd) into directories, even if we can't see them.
- Host typology is: 2 replica, 1 arbiter.
- Volumes are: replicated and running on XFS on the hosts.
- Clients are: GlusterFS native

>From time to time someone will comment in this list that their Samba
server has disappeared from the list of hosts in Network Neighborhood.
Browsing the list archive has yet to turn up any good explanation of this
phenomenon.
I think I have a clue. This morning my server disappeared again. When I
checked the process list on the server I noticed that nmbd had been
swapped out to disk. The

full size shown before file transfer (via samba) completes?
I noticed this when transferring a 200mb file from my win box to my linux
box (that has it's hd shared with samba). I typed ls -l in a term window to
see the progress, but it was showing full size even though according to
windows the transfer was only around 10-20%, and so on.
Why does samba do this? If I transfer with ftp, or ssh transfer, I see the
file size growing in shell.

In the Sage command line, you can type
sage: r?
to get some very basic info, and
sage: r.[tab]
to get various commands. This part of the interface still needs some

Hi,
Please provide the gluster volume info. Do you see any errors in the client
mount log file (/var/log/glusterfs/var-lib-mountedgluster.log)?
Thanks,
