Beating a dead horse - Roaming profiles / logon scripts
Using samba 3.0.8 and Suse ES 9.0 I'm having problems getting roaming
profiles/local profiles and logon scripts on a Win2k or WinXP workstation
working correctly. My bdc is supposed to be doing the authentication
against my PDC\LDAP server. Even when I enable Only allow local profiles
on the XP machine it will logout a domain samba user with a sorry no
roaming or local profile available

Thanks Alex, your suggestion along with some additonal tweaks helped solve
my problem. The balance has once again been restored in my little universe.

All Roaming Profiles Point to Same User
In my Workplace we have samba 3.0.3 running on our server with Clients
ranging from WinXP and Windows 2000 to MacOSX and Linux. After a server
crash, and having to rebuild our Authentication server we have had a problem
where specific Windows PC's will point to the same profile for all roaming
users. The "set" command returns

slow logon from wireless network (roaming profiles)
Hi, we have recently installed samba and it all works
fine on our cabled network. We are using roaming
profiles. Logging on is running at pretty quick
speeds (no slower than my PC used to be logging on to
Novell without roaming profiles).
We also have a wireless network that is running on a
different subnet and is connected to the main network
using a vpn tunnel. The delimiting factor here

Upgrading sox
Hi,
I'm currently running an * version 1.2.13 and sox version 12.17.5. I want to
upgrade sox to the newest release ( 12.18.2 ); need mp3 support.
But how do I make the upgrade.
Do I need to recompile asterisk afterwards?
If I make a " sox -h" after a reboot I can see the new version is running
but is that enough?

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All,
I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too
large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in
Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from
being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this?
Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but
others continuing to use a roaming profile? We

Duplicate Desktop Icons...
Hi,
I posted this problem a while back but wasn't able to resolve the issue.
It's gotten worse--now almost all of my users in the network have the
duplicate icon problem.
I'm recently upgraded to samba-3.0.23d from 3.0.21 on an OpenBSD 4.0
server. I'm using folder redirection to redirect the Application Data,
Desktop, My Documents, and Favorites folders off to

Samba PDC shared applications and a default start menu profile

ideal world i'd like to have single installations of applications on a
samba shared device, and also if possible a default start menu profile
with the applications already added... is such a setup possible? Right now
I'm using roaming profiles... (I think?) If it's possible could some smb.conf

Samba 3.4.7-0.2, Windows 7, roaming profile issues
After update from 3.0 to 3.4.7 roaming profiles were not being saved
on XP. Disabled ipv6 on our Samba server (some update must have
re-enabled it) and rebooted. Now profiles on XP seem to be working OK
again.
Not so for Windows 7. This is a newly set up Windows 7 machine,
registry fixes were applied as indicated here:

Duplicate Icons on Desktop after Upgrade
Hi,
I'm recently upgraded to samba-3.0.23d from 3.0.21 on an OpenBSD 4.0
server. I'm using folder redirection to redirect the Application Data,
Desktop, My Documents, and Favorites folders off to /profiles/username
on the server. Two users now have duplicate file icons on their
desktops. For example, if there is a file named test.doc in the
/profiles/username/Desktop directory on

Moving from SAMBA to 2003 domain with XP SP# client machines roaming profiles stopped working
We have been directed to move off a SAMBA domain to a server 2003R2
domain. We run roaming profiles with samba and would like to continue
this on 2003R2. After bringing all the XPSP3 desktops into the 2003R2
domain, roaming profiles wont work. I'm not even trying to use the
SAMBA generated profiles. The error I get when logging on is:

XP - strange profile handling
Hi all,
I'm using samba 3.0.2a with openldap as PDC with roaming profiles.
one xp client has only been able to load the profile from the server
after I set "nt acl support = yes" for the profiles share.
Now the problem is that this xp client writes everything directly into the
profile folder on the server, instead of doing this when the user logs off.
Thanks in advance for any

With samba-2.2.x the choice you have is to enable or disable roaming
profiles support. It is a global only setting. The default is to have

More roaming profile-Windows XP Data
Hello,
I have a Samba 3.0.2a PDC that I have joined server Windows XP machines to.
Joining the domain was painfully enough, but now I am having problems with
roaming profiles. We initially thought the problem was intermittent, but
we finally figured out that if the same user logs in again and again the
roaming profile is found and login proceeds normally. When a second user

PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello,
I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs.
As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user
will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a
domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one.
As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a
copy of a profile of a given user, right?
If so, how can

Outlook/Express Crawling with Domains
I'm gonna try to give as complete a description as I can. Maybe someone
can point me in the right direction, as I haven't seen anything exactly
like this.
I'm attempting to switch from Workgroup to Domain at work. On a couple
machines I did fresh installs of XP, used the registry patch, and
succesffully got logons, roaming profiles working. However, when a user
