Some final notes: Backup Exec & Samba shares
Good day, gang, Chris McKeever was kind enough to write back to me over the weekend regarding the problems I'd experienced in using Backup Exec 8.x and 9.x to connect to Samba shares on a NetBSD system. Between his comments and my direct experience, I've only found ONE combination that will work, and that is: NetBSD 1.6, Samba 2.2.8a, and Backup Exec 8.6. If you take NetBSD up to 1.6.1,

Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 & Samba: Take Two!
Hi, gang, There have been numerous postings, scattered across various Internet forums (including this one), about problems encountered using Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 and higher with Samba-sourced shares from *nix servers. In my particular case, I have a Windows NT Server 4.0-based backup system, which is supposed to be able to back up the other Windows systems on the LAN, plus several SPARC boxes

Samba 3.0.4 + Veritas Backup Exec
Hi all, Wondering if anyone can help me here? Having just upgraded from Samba 3.0.2a to Samba 3.0.4, I've found that Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 is no longer able to browse my shares. A quick "make revert" and everything is back as it should be. The things I see in the samba log are like this: [2004/05/19 12:46:40, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(619) titanium

Problems with Backup Exec
Fellow samba dancers, Here's my situation: I've got a NetBSD (1.6) box running smoothly enough with the most recent stable Samba release (2.2.7a). I have no problems whatsoever browsing, reading, and writing files from NT boxes to the shared directory using File Manager or Explorer. Our NT server is a PDC, and has Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 and a tape library on it. This serves as the

Backing up Samba shares with Seagate Backup Exec for NT
Hello, Does anyone have experience backing up their samba SMB shares with an NT-based backup system? I'm using Seagate Backup Exec 7.0, and whenever I select a share on Samba, I get a message saying "Unable to connect to server, <F5> to retry", and then another one saying "A device specefic error occured". My samba shares are all fully operational (I can access them

Seeking advice: Backup Exec & Samba shares
Fellow Samba-shakers, I've run into an odd problem, and I'm seeking the advice of anyone who has implemented Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 or 9.0, on an NT 4.0 server platform, to perform backups of NetBSD 1.6x systems via Samba file shares. Said problem did NOT manifest itself until I tried using Samba 3.0.0. I have jumped back to 2.2.8a, since that's the last version that was known to

Backup Exec 12.0 management console
Hi folks. I'm trying to see if I can get the Backup Exec remote management console (not the media server itself) installed on my Ubuntu desktop. It's not listed in the AppDB, so I thought I'd try here first... System: Ubuntu Intrepid, 32-bit Wine: 1.1.8, default running as WinXP There are a few different pieces of software that can be installed from this disc, but the wrapper that

Booting from a Backup Exec IDR CD
I posted a while back about trying to boot with the ''baremetal restore'' CD created by Backup Exec''s Intelligent Disaster Recovery process. On a physical machine, it prompts the user with a bright purple screen that describes what is going to happen if the user proceeds. Under Xen HVM I just got a bright purple screen with a few random characters, some flashing, and

Shorewall backup configuration patch/hack
Hi, I created a modification (more like a hack) to shorewall that backups a configuration after succesfully (re)starting it. In case a future (re)start fails it will use this backup configuration. (instead of stopping the firewall and generating a massive ammount phonecalls ;) I didn''t pay too much attention to the ramifications of this patch, so let me know if i screwed anything up.

Hard links: incomplete backup or rsync does not terminate
Hi all, when running backups, rsync sometimes does not terminate. I finally managed to create a small test case which reproduces this behaviour (another night without sleep, so sorry for the bad English...): Using rsync 3.1.0 [no change in a quick test I ran after compiling 3.1.1] on Linux (x86_64) the following sequence causes rsync not to terminate: > mkdir srclt2

upgrade from 1.x to 3.0.0.4 : veritas backup exec cannot connect
I figured out a previous issue to allow you to connect veritas BE to a samba system. You basically just defind a c$ share, and it was happy (Veritas BE version 8.5 Rev 3572) Now, I cannot get the user defined share to connect for the life of me anymore. The backup user can connect using windows shares, but within the application, I'm out of luck. It keeps asking for a username/password
