server-side AND client-side symlinks?
How can I have both server-side and client-side symlinks? Server-side symlinks are needed for example when what appears to the user to be a single mounted directory is actually tens of little pieces tied together by symlinks. Having those symlinks coalesces many mounts that would all have to be perfect in parallel into a single mount that's either fully successful or not. Client-side

GlusterFS failover with UCarp
Hi, we've successfully configured GlusterFS mirroring across two identical nodes [1]. We're running the file share under a Virtual IP address using UCarp. We have different clients connected using NFS, CIFS and GlusterFS. When we simulate a node failure, by unplugging it, it takes about 5 seconds for the CIFS and GlusterFS clients to refresh the connection and continue operation. The

Is there any way to check the class of an ALTREP?
Benjamin, You happened to send a link which points to the OP's own package :) I think Jiefei would like to know how one can "officially" determine if an arbitrary ALTERP object belongs to a class that he owns. samba password hashes exposed to ldapsearch
After setting up Samba to work with an FDS LDAP server: http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Howto:Samba ... I see that the samba password hashes are shown with a simple ldapsearch command. If you scroll to the bottom of the page linked above and see the search results for: ldapsearch -x -Z '(uid=testuser)' You will see the hashes: sambaLMPassword: CFA95C51F11AB11DC2265B23734E0DAC

NET RPC calls fails
Hi Samba folks! I have a problem concerning RPC calls. In a domain environment running 3.0.3pre2 I have no problems shutting down remote computers. I now have a small environment with only 2 computers in a workgroup. My samba server is running on a FreeBSD 5.4 box and my client is a Win XP Pro SP2 box. When I try to use net rpc shutdown -I 192.168.1.50 -U Administrator i get the

Is there any way to check the class of an ALTREP?
Hi all, I would like to determine if an ALTREP object is from my package, I see there is a function `ALTREP_CLASS` defined in RInternal.h but its return value is neither a `R_altrep_class_t` object nor an STRSXP representing a class name. I do not know how to correctly use it. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jiefei [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Is there any way to check the class of an ALTREP?
Thank Denes for the clarification, glad to see my package got one citation from my own question:) Also, thank Benjamin for sending many useful documents. Actually, the question is related to the SharedObject package that Benjamin has pointed to. I wanna avoid sharing an object that has already been shared, so I need to check whether an object is an ALTREP that is defined in my package. Since the

become_domain_master_query_fail
Hi all, Everything was working fine with my samba server, until two days ago, when the clients started to say "domain is not available" when we tried to login. Looking at nmbd.log I found some errors but have no idea how to fix them...It has worked perfectly for almost two years... Does anyone have an idea? how belatedly copy ACLs?
My original has Posix ACLs (they work fine, that's not the issue). I screwed up my backup by forgetting to copy the ACLs. But now my backup isn't right and I want to fix it. Using the right `rsync` with the right parameter isn't enough to fix the problem. Even the right `rsync` sees this as "no change" and doesn't copy anything (since the file contents haven't

Re LDAP adding workstation accounts fails (but not really???)
I very much appreciate the help thus far, but I think it has strayed a bit from the actual problem. The problem is that when I join a system to the samba domain it creates /some/ but not all of the required attributes for the computer account. The process then fails as samba looks in the wrong part of my directory server. I would strongly prefer to put the workstation accounts in their own tree

loging user actions
Hallo, from time to time some of our users delete files. But none of them do confess that they have deleted the file. I want to find at the samba logs which user has deleted the file. I´m using the audit-vfs module but there are only messages about opening and closing of files. Can anybody give me a hint for using samba logs to find the users I´m searching for? Thanks in advance Peter
