chown: changing ownership of 'test': Invalid argument
Hi Louis,
Thank you for the thread. Reading through it now.
I also, this morning, realised that I forgot to include a very critical
piece of information. I initially installed samba 4.5 from the debian
repos, then got hit by this issue. I then purged samba and winbind, and did
a apt autoremove --purge. Loaded your repo and reinstalled the needed
packages. Don't know if this complicated

Installing R in Ubuntu
Hello, I am new to Ubuntu (Linux in general) and I am trying to install R: so far, I am stuck. I have followed the instructions at the CRAN website with little luck. I read an exchange about the same issue posted before, but did not give me enough information to solve things by myself, hence, this email. Based on the former exchange I read, I am trying to include enough information to see if

overlapdialing and no digits in setup problem
Hello!
I have asterisk which is connected to avaya definity.
I set trunk to overlap.
When I call to this trunk (so called tac in avaya) without any number
I hear dial tone for some time, any digit I try to dial are ignored by
asterisk- still tone, then call is rejected:

orthonormalization with weights
Hello List,
I would like to orthonormalize vectors contained in a matrix X taking into
account row weights (matrix diagonal D). ie, I want to obtain Z=XA with
t(Z)%*%D%*%Z=diag(1)
I can do the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization with subsequent weighted
regressions. I know that in the case of uniform weights, qr can do the
trick. I wonder if there is a way to do it in the case of non uniform

New Ubuntu Breezy and Dapper APT repository - stop using sourceforge!
Greetings folks,
Since the sourceforge apt repository is woefully limited to just one
distribution version, and because it is exceedingly slow and times out a
lot, budgetdedicated.com has graciously donated us a blazing fast server
to host the fresh Ubuntu packages.
To use the APT repository, simply edit 'sudo
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list' and then add the following lines, depending

station can t join domain due to wins cache
Hello,
A problem that might be usefull to mention (or not).
Sometimes, I encountered a problem with some stations that couldn t
join the samba domain.
It was due to the wins cache. (the samba conf was configured to
provide wins service)
I had already joined the domain with those stations before during tests.
The solution was to stop samba and erase the wins cache (by default on

minor tick marks
Hi !
I need a plot for data extending over several orders of magnitude on the y axis.
The following command generates a nice looking semi-log plot for my data:
plot(x,y,log="y",type="l",lty=3, ylim=c(0.01,2),yaxp=c(0.01,1,1),las=1)
I would appreciate having also minor tick marks in-between the 3 major ticks obtained with the above command. The "minor.tick" function

Problem browsing my unix-client - session setup failed: NT_STATUS _CANT_ACCESS_DOMAIN_INFO
I installed samba 3.0015.
I have a problem when I try to browse my machine from a windows client. In
effect I am not able to "open" my unix-client.
I checked nmbd and smbd and they are running.
If I try from my unix-clinet: smbclient -L my_user -W my_domain -L my_PDC I
can see shares.
If I try from my unix client: smbclient -L my_user -W my_domain -L
